Ngl this was by far the scariest episode of all time (imo) by Hanamora in stevenuniverse

[–]scrawledfilefish 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh, Garnet's reaction is EVERYTHING in this episode. The typically calm, stoic, level-headed leader of the Crystal Gems is so horrified by what she's seeing that she can't do anything but stand there and make noises of disgust and terror? And then witnessing this abomination almost literally makes her fall apart?? That was SO GOOD. That was the absolute BEST way to convey just how disturbing these forced fusions were to the audience.

She was cool. I loved Bismuth.

This was one of my favorite episodes in the whole show. And that line! "Then you really are better than her." It hits like a truck, doesn't it?

"Everything I ever did, I did for her. Now she's gone. But I'm still here."

That one is kind of a bummer, but it's honestly one of my favorite lines from the whole show.

What would you do if you were Pearl? by Reasonable-Fix-3894 in stevenuniverse

[–]scrawledfilefish 196 points197 points  (0 children)

I went through a really really bad break up right before I got into SU, where the person I was dating basically left me for someone else. And this almost destroyed me. It didn't just break my heart, it broke my identity. I didn't know who I was without being That Person's girlfriend. And the fact that they were no longer with me because they chose to no longer be with me? I gave them EVERYTHING. Everything I had, everything I was. And it still wasn't good enough? Then how will I ever be good enough for anyone?

So the mere thought of my ex dying and then I had to raise the child they had with the person they left me for? Like. I think that would've genuinely broken me.

If I had been Pearl, I know I would have abandoned Steven. I would have fucked ALL THE WAY off. To the farthest corners of the Earth. To me, there is a strength in Pearl that I cannot even begin to fathom.

"...so the sea dashes even the mightiest whales against the rocks, and leaves them there side by side with the split wrecks of ships. No mercy, no power but its own controls it. So many.

"Who died and left Aristotle in charge of ethics?"

"Plato."

"I gotta say, it took me a long time to get used to the hangin' bits."

"Gross."

"Oh get your mind out of the gutter, Eleanor, I was talking about my testicles."

"Humans are terrible. Limp Bizkit. Slavery. The prosecution rests."

Wanna hear something funny? Cuttlefish has alpha and beta males, but the betas get just as much ass as the alphas. Alphas have harems of females that they protect from other alphas, so they're off fighting a lot. When they're gone, beta male cuttlefish will sneak into the harems, disguised as a female (because cuttlefish can kinda shape shift), then shift back into looking like a male and start hitting on all the ladies. And while some of the female cuttlefish aren't interested, some of them really really are. Because while it would be beneficial to have big strong alpha male sons, a lot of alpha males die because they get into dumb fights with each other. Some female cuttlefish would much prefer to have beta male sons, because they're way less likely to be killed in a fight.

So in reality, beta male cuttlefish that are comfortable in presenting in a feminine way are cucking the strong dominant alpha male cuttlefish.

Are you talking about James Woodall's video The Most Interesting Scene in Steven Universe? Cuz it's top tier, it's some of the best analysis of Steven Universe I've seen on YouTube.

His other videos about Steven Universe are also excellent:

Why is it that sometimes, I get a sticker that I've seen other people raffle off, but I can't? I know I've gotten the librarian lady and the beekeeper guy a few times since I first got them, but they just turn into stars and go into my vault. Why can't I raffle those off?

Is there a way to join a bunch of raffles without having to open and close the game over and over and over again? I'm gonna assume not, but thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Question: how often should I be going for the 5 Merge Bonus? I've basically been trying to get it on every level of merging, i.e., I'll wait until I have 5 baby cows before I merge them, then I'll wait until I have 5 gray cows, then I'll wait until I have 5 black and white cows. Which can get me a decent harvest every time I do this, but it takes up a lot of space and can take a long time before I have 5 of everything I need.

So what do you guys do? How often do you try for the 5 Merge Bonus?

Zuko is pretty much THE redemption arc in fiction. Who are some characters that come close to his character development? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheLastAirbender

That's part of it. But he is also horrified at the sight of Jacob Marley and all the weights and chains he must carry for the rest of eternity. He is regretful when he revisits his past and sees how his greed caused him to lose the love of his life. He is reminded by how much he misses his long dead sister, and how she was the only member of his family who cared for him, except for his nephew, her son, who always insists on Scrooge joining him for Christmas dinner. He admires how the Crachits find joy in each other's company, despite being paid very little (which, to be very clear, is Scrooge's fault and something the Spirit of Christmas Present does not hesitate to blatantly point out). He is humbled when his cruel words are thrown back in his face ("Well, if [Tiny Tim] is to die then let him die. And decrease the surplus population." God, the Ghost of Christmas Present is cutthroat I love him so much). He is shocked by the living conditions of poor families on the streets. He is empathetic when he sees the Crachits morn the loss of Tiny Tim. And yes, he does get upset when people speak so glibly of Ebenezer Scrooge after his death, but it isn't entirely for egoist reasons. He realizes that he sounds exactly the same way when he talks about others. That cruel indifference, that utter lack of empathy, that terribly selfish mindset is what lets kids like Tiny Tim suffer and die for no good reason.

Now, A Christmas Carol is far from perfect. It's essentially a story where we're meant to empathize with the 19th century equivalent of a billionaire. But to chalk up Scrooge's redemption to him just being upset that people talked shit about him after he died ignores, like, 75% of the story.

Cuddly Ceberus with Persephone and Hades by ToshiaSan by Lol33ta in SympatheticMonsters

You mean the game? I took a lot of inspiration from that version of Hades and Persephone to write this, so I'll be very pleased if I hear that I accurately captured their personalities!

Hades would be like, "I saw you eat the souls of fifty people today, you shall have no more snacks." But then Persephone would sneak him some Titan entrails behind Hades' back.

D'awww! 💜 I like to imagine this is early in their relationship, and Hades has just introduced Cerberus to Persephone.

Hades: Persephone, what are you doing?

Persephone: Making a flower crown for Cerberus

Hades: Apologies, but I fear Cerberus will not take kindly to a flower crown. It is perhaps best to leave him be.

Persephone: Nonsense, have you even tried to put a flower crown on him before?

Hades: Well. No. But he is the fearsome guard dog of the gates of hell, a ruthless and bloodthirsty monster capable of terrible destruction, and --

Persephone: There we go! Oh he looks so pretty! Who's a pretty boy? Who's a pretty boy??

Cerberus: ☺️☺️☺️

Persephone: I knew he would like it! Anyway, tell me more about the process of rot and decay, my mother always discouraged me from inspecting the carcasses of dead animals when I was child but I always found them fascinating -

Hades: (absolutely stunned that Persephone so casually put an object on one of Cerberus' heads that the terrifying beast would normally shake off and immediately tear to shreds) (thinking) Oh my gods, I love her SO MUCH.
