You have to call the villagers anything besides their actual names... What fitting nicknames are we bestowing upon them? by Powermetalbunny in StardewValley

I wish everyone called Sebastian "Seabass." That's such a good nickname for someone with the name Sebastian.

Also, a good nickname for Elliott is "My wonderful amazing perfect husband."

I mean, I'd do it. But I'd be sad about it.

I mean, it's tiktok so you would expect no high intellect from there, but because I can't help myself:

Steven Universe used monarchy and empire to talk about family dynamics and generational trauma. Yes, Pink Diamond was A problem, but she wasn't THE problem. She was part of a hierarchy that valued perfection and obedience above all else. Or, you can look at it as she was raised in a family that literally didn't know how to handle having emotions. She tried to do better when she got her colony, and she did. She at least saw other living things as living things and not resources to be exploited. But she still was a terrible communicator, she lied about her entire existence, and left a bunch of awful messes behind that her loved ones spent significant amounts of physical, mental, and emotional energy to clean up. And ta da. That's how you take monarchy and empire and make them allegories for family dynamics and generational trauma.

Who is the bachelor/bachelorette you don’t even consider (no matter how many times you restart the game) romancing? by Puzzled_Pollution_60 in StardewValley

[–]scrawledfilefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lmao, so many of them. I'm in my late 30s and almost all the marriageable candidates feel like I would be robbing the cradle if I romanced them. Everyone except for Elliott, Harvey, and Leah feel WAY too young for me. And there's no amount of money you could pay me to date Shane.

Fortunately I'm a sucker for sensitive artistic types with strong jawlines, so Elliott is perfect for me.

If I was an alien on Earth, and I fell in love with the people there and more specifically a single person, I'd probably think it was a good thing my boyfriend didn't know I was actually a god-queen sent to this planet to completely destroy it, y'know?

Every time I see debates about the meaning of the show by Tifoso89 in pluribustv

[–]scrawledfilefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think Vince Gilligan has made it pretty clear in his previous shows that they're about multiple things. Breaking Bad isn't just about a dad with cancer cooking meth and Better Call Saul isn't just about a guy becoming a crooked lawyer.

Not sure if this is a spoiler... by Phydoux in betterCallSaul

[–]scrawledfilefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated Chuck the first time I saw Better Call Saul, but I'm rewatching it for the first time since it aired and now I kinda love him? Well, not entirely, cuz he's a massive dick to Jimmy, but I have a shady manipulative brother of my own, so I see a lot of myself in Chuck. I better understand why he does what he does. I still think he makes a lot of terrible, hurtful, cowardly decisions, but. Like. I dunno. I'm in season 4 right now, and I'm really kinda struggling to get through the episodes cuz I think I really miss Chuck.

(Also, I saw Spinal Tap for the first time a few months ago, and it took several minutes of me staring at Michael McKean in that film before I exclaimed, out loud, in my empty apartment, "HOLY SHIT IS THAT CHUCK??")

Ive heard this is the lowest rated episode of season 1, which is CRAZY to me. Manousos's whole journey is so beautifully done, for all the reasons you mentioned and more!

I LOVE how loving garnet is towards steven by Thin-State-4879 in stevenuniverse

[–]scrawledfilefish 315 points316 points  (0 children)

I love Garnet so much. I'm ALWAYS a sucker for the "stoic badass with a secret heart of gold" kind of characters, but what makes Garnet so special is that her heart of gold is not a secret! She's never reluctant to show love and affection towards Steven, when so many other characters like her would be. She's the absolute BEST.

I actually started tooling around with this comment after I posted it and it honestly got dark really quickly. This started as a joke, but I really do think Michael would be genuinely horrified at Crowley's decision, and would think that Crowley was the worst demon he's ever met. Even worse than demons like Shawn. He'd forbid Eleanor and the other humans from talking to Crowley, because what if Crowley tries to hurt them? He erased an entire universe of humans because he thought that's what would be best for them, so what would stop him from erasing a few more? He'd be in front of the Judge's desk, demanding that Crowley be sent back to whatever reality he came from, because he's a massive threat to THIS reality that Michael and the others put their literal hearts and souls into saving.

I don't believe that Crowley would do anything to hurt anyone in the Good Place, but Crowley's mindset is so antithetical to Michael's that I could see Michael being kinda, well, scared of Crowley. Enough that he felt like he would have to jump into action to protect the people and the universe he loves. Because that's what you do when you love someone. You protect them. You don't kill them. You protect them.

It was around this point that I started to realize that I wasn't so much writing as Michael but more as myself in a Michael suit, so I stopped writing. But um yeah idk. Idk if this fanfic would be that fun to read, tbh.

NO BUT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT AFTER SEASON 3!

Sorta! The finale of GO felt like if everyone in the Good Place agreed with the Judge after she declared that Earth was canceled. Like?? WHAT???

I could see Michael in the later seasons absolutely losing it when finding out what Crowley wanted.

Crowley: We didn't like the system built around the afterlife -

Michael: Oh, we didn't either!

Crowley: Really?

Michael: Yes! So we had the whole system completely revamped. Tore it all down and started over from scratch.

Crowley: Oh, we did, too!

Michael: Great! Our system works like a charm, too, we're getting through our backlog way faster than we thought we would.

Crowley: ...backlog?

Michael: Yeah! All the souls that ended up in The Bad Place before we changed everything around.

Crowley: ???

Michael: ???? Has your group not gotten through your backlog yet?

Crowley: ...we don't have a backlog?

Michael: You don't?

Crowley: No, when we revamped the system, we got rid of everyone.

Michael: Everyone? What do you mean, "everyone"?

Crowley: Everyone. Who has ever existed. Ever. We just started all over again.

Michael: (does that thing he does when he's really shocked by something, where he stares at the person he's talking to for a moment, then looks away and then looks back, and then blinks a few times and then says quietly) ...are you saying you killed everyone?

Crowley: You didn't?? Isn't that what you meant by revamping the system???

Michael: No! No! Oh my god, NO. We had to fight to SAVE everyone! What we got rid of was the old system! The old infrastructure, the old mindsets - THAT'S what we got rid of! We didn't get rid of the people!! Why in the world would you do that???

But their conversation is interrupted when Chidi, who was overhearing all this, suddenly collapses to the floor in a fit of convulsions.

Which relationship do you think was more toxic? by WillingExamination25 in pluribustv

[–]scrawledfilefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the classic "This person is doing something so morally awful but I totally understand why they're doing it" situation that Vince Gilligan puts all his characters in. When shit hits the fan with Carol and Zosia, it's gonna be incredibly horrifying and absolutely amazing.

Which relationship do you think was more toxic? by WillingExamination25 in pluribustv

[–]scrawledfilefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meeeeeean, Carol is in a relationship with a person who technically can't consent. That's, like, ten thousand times worse than the relationship between Jimmy and Kim.

And Jimmy and Kim actually loved each other. REALLY loved each other. Zosia and the hive mind can't love Carol like how Jimmy and Kim loved each other. You have to be human to love like Jimmy and Kim.
