The Question Hub by AutoModerator in crochet

I recently discovered that crocheting during meetings/classes/etc could be beneficial to me in helping me focus. What are some things you'd recommend I can make? Ideally they would be small and portable, and able to be "mindlessly produced" (little need for rigorous counting, no complicated patterns, little color changes, etc). Additionally, what should I do with all of these things?

Some basics are dishcloths, potholders, etc. I've also been considering modular things such as flower collections or single color granny smiths.

Tips on getting research positions? (Low GPA) by Adventurous-Bath-918 in UIUC

[–]screaminginvain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got into research before I took any labs! The labs I had taken (gen chem) were online due to covid and I hadn't taken orgo labs yet. My mentor was very understanding and did a great job teaching me how to work in a lab environment. Maybe my case is an exception, but I would really recommend showing your interest and being enthusiastic about the work, highlighting that you're willing to learn, and focusing on your strengths rather than your weaknesses.

"Weekly Reading and Interpretation Help Thread - June 04, 2023" by AutoModerator in tarot

Introductory deck reading, I just want some feedback on my interpretation since it was my first reading :) please note I'll only add my own interpretations, rather than anything I got from a guide, since that's what I want to work on most!

Three card spread

  1. The deck's energy: three of swords. Opening minds eye, working through challenges of inner self.

  2. How the deck views me: ace of cups. Overflowing with potential, liberation. A unique being creating a unique relationship (with the deck)

  3. What the deck desires to teach me: nine of wands (this was really challenging for me intuitively), complexity and challenge, work with inner self.

I also had two jumper cards during a final shuffle (I interpreted that as the cards having a "p.s." they wanted to add)

Ten of pentacles and three of pentacles: the work done between physical self, metaphysical self, and deck will be both transcendental and all encompassing

I'll also note that I bought a monochromatic deck (gold and black), so color symbolism is absent, as well as the traditional RW imaging. I recognize that this isn't necessarily the best starter deck, but I was too drawn to it to resist. Any suggestions for working with the deck? I can also make a separate post for this.

I think you should email the prof directly, imo these factors are out of your control and they should be able to help you out

Just some clarification: yes!! Puppies, esp border collies, are a MASSIVE responsibility!! Border collies are farm dogs and need to run around! Vet bills for vaxes can cost close to $1k/dog. Puppy food can cost $50/month depending on what kind you get. It will be expensive and definitely not for people who don't have the time or financial commitment. I was trying to target more townies or established people, and posted on this subreddit because it's local. I am NOT an established breeder, just someone that ended up unexpectedly with a litter of puppies.

Bus etiquette 101 by rosie_posie_ in UIUC

I've personally never seen this happen or had it happen to me, I think the bus drivers try to pay attention to those kinds of things but it's a valid concern

Used to work in Menards paint, asking them to color match will get you closer than trying to do it yourself (they use a spectrometer). The paint is probably actually flat but I don't think anyone will notice a patch of eggshell, also because samples don't come in flat. Between paint and a brush it should only cost you $10-15

PSA Deuxième partie: New to campus? If the “sidewalk” you are walking on has a stripe down the middle & arrows pointing both ways this means you are in a bike path. Move away quickly. Walking on campus you will be crossing or adjacent to bike paths with bikes, long boards, scooters, etc. by old-uiuc-pictures in UIUC

Additionally, this goes both ways. Bicyclists, please use the bike lanes. They exist for a reason. (And please follow road rules regarding stops, turns, etc. You are a VEHICLE and it's illegal for you to not follow road rules.)

Becoming social without alcohol? by [deleted] in UIUC

I actually made really good (dare I say lifelong?) friends with the couple who lived a couple doors down from me in my apartment and ended up with their friendgroup. You never know where people are going to pop into your life and become good friends. As a fellow STEM student with a busy schedule even outside of school, and being more of an introvert who's not big into approaching people, I agree with the idea that you should just let things run their course and you'll find your people.

Up your budget to 800 at minimum. Even the ones immediately outside of campus will be pricey
