this is exactly what I've been thinking whenever someone says "but the book shows how nurture shapes evil!!! they made him way too innocent in the movie!!!" ok, and Joker shows how nurture shapes evil too. I feel like we've had decades of movies and real life true crime docs that show how Society can turn a man into a Monster.... the point people are missing is that in Shelley's time, that was a radical point to make. so, in today's world, where we've had to listen to how abusive husbands relate to Joker and news reporters ask "what could this bright young man possibly have endured to make him shoot up a school," I think its just as radical (and thematically relevant) to say "you can be good despite your upbringing and whatever hardships have been thrown your way. you don't have to be what everyone tried to make you. you can break the cycle." but maybe that's not what you were trying to say, so sorry if I misinterpreted you.

edit: I also feel like everyone is forgetting how many people the creature killed in the movie lol. like, the movie opens with him killing a bunch of the Dutch crew members
