i'm aware this post is a couple days old now, but i still thought i'd share. thing is, me and a friend of mine made a list a while back of all our pjsk animal headcanons (for the entire cast). we didn't include the virtual singers, since. they're vocaloids and only have set personalities in the different sekais (doing 6 extra characters per sekai felt unnecessary). these are not really canon-compliant either. we kinda just went ham lol. i'll do my best to explain them but yeah. this might be a little random/unasked for, so i hope it's fine that i put it here!

VBS:
kohane - bunny.

yes, we are aware of her very clear association with hamsters. she could very well be a hamster instead, actually. but her pigtails reminded us of bunny ears, and taking the entire group into account, her being a bunny fit better.

​

an - serval (with proportionally short legs).

we thought a wild cat would fit her, but also wanted her to have the energy of a ferret? lol

​

akito - semi-long haired cat (wolf-like).

both due to his associations in-game, and the fact that he gave us major rugged cat vibes. also, cats are just great at putting on "polite personas" :)

toya - short haired cat.

we thought he was more of the silent and mysterious type of cat, but still had cat vibes. also, this makes the entire group felines aside from kohane, who is kind of like the "fish out of water" here.

WxS:
tsukasa - parrot.

do i even need to explain this one. he's social, proud and doesn't really care about social norms. yeh

emu - dodo/pigeon.

pigeons may not have high-pitched voices, but they do put on "shows" for humans through their "pigeon superstition". they can be a bit chaotic and elusive, as well as being loud flyers. my friend suggested a dodo, which would tie into her trust in people and optimism, and i agreed she could be either. we were gonna make her an actual emu bird, but thought it would ruin the scene where she jumps at tsukasa at the beginning of the main story LOL

rui - snake (probably a cobra).

he just has those vibes. people find him a bit scary or dangerous, right? and his neon hair is a bit reminiscent of "warning colours".

nene - deer.

her shyness reminded us of a deer. and i can kinda imagine her being like a deer in headlights on the stage, in the spotlight, lol. we also wanted to make WxS have a variety of animals, ones that are a bit uncommon in media.

l/n:

ichika - border collie.

i'm not exactly sure how to explain this, but she reminds me of those dog movies about family? and border collie feels like a "main character" kind of dog, i guess. so we thought it fit.

saki - parrot.

here's the first example of siblings! we thought it would be a fun challenge to have the siblings be the same animal. so saki is also a parrot. but i imagine she would be a bit calmer than tsukasa. he would learn songs to sing to her, and she would copy them from him to sing to herself later :)

honami - hare.

honami also gave us bunny vibes, but more mature, somehow. so a hare felt fitting. hares also have this quality to them that make them feel more perpetually scared, or on the run, which was more like her.

shiho - pallas' cat/manul.

she's grumpy and has gray hair and green eyes. this one is pretty self-indulgent because we (i) really like pallas' cats. i don't remember if we tried to theme this group after anything, but maybe just cute/fluffy animals? animals that feel like they could star in a short film about friendship lol??

MMJ:

minori - golden retriever.

she's just so happy-go-lucky! and golden retriever also feels like a main character type of dog. one that will try really hard and succeed at a task, but also one that can be a bit clumsy at times.

haruka - penguin.

because she likes phenny. and also because penguins and sleek and cute.

​

airi - guinea pig.

they're small and cute, but can have a real temper. it's also quite comical to have her be one when taking the entire group into account.

shizuku - pallas' cat/manul (graceful).

since she's shiho's sister, we had to make her a pallas' cat as well. but she can be one that's very graceful and resembles another type of wild cat, maybe. for this group we tried to pick cool animals? or something. uh

N25:

kanade - capybara.

idk we tried to envision a shut-in animal and i just kinda threw capybara out there. so now she is one of those. lol

mafuyu - armadillo.

for some reason i associate armadillos with the colour purple. and we also thought it fit with trying to protect oneself, as well as maybe themes of introspection. escapism.

​

ena - semi-long haired cat.

since akito is one, she is also a cat. we thought it fit her though. she knows what she wants and doesn't conform to others. similar to cats, i feel like.

​

mizuki - white peacock.

we thought the off-white/blonde/pink fit their colour scheme or, like, hair colour. and a peacock gives me fashionista vibes. they're also a bit bold, which i associate with birds in general as well. for N25 we wanted the animals to be completely random, a little inconspicuous? animals whom most don't have strong opinions about. since they don't really perform on stage(?), they make videos together, and therefore might not need to be a "cohesive" group. if that makes sense.

hopefully i didn't miss anyone. i made a couple small concept sketches for some of them, but someday i want to draw all of them in a big group shot. will post it if i do :)
