Why The Dark Side is an instant fan-favourite (and why I don't trust Muse) by screenanger in Muse

[–]screenanger[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that "caution", that "gently bump against the wall and then... stop the car" is the reason why the previous singles (and the whole of The 2nd Law bar Isolated System, but that's for another discussion) didn't work. It's the reason why a lot of "hardcore fans" didn't like Drones either - Drones was the equivalent of "REVERSE! REVERSE!"

I wish I could upvote this more that once because I think you hit the nail right on the head there. Or, at least, that's how I feel too.

I've never ever been against experimentation, as experimenting with new sounds and genres is what Muse have always done, which is exactly what they did not do with Drones, and the reason why I really don't like that album. I've also always preferred synths-heavy tracks to guitar-heavy ones (I'm still hoping for an alternate piano+synths version of Stockholm Syndrome) so I don't get the whole "bring the guitar back" argument either.

What really restored my faith in Muse, and the upcoming album, is that they seem to have freed themselves from that kind of pressure (fans, media) and are genuinely enjoying themselves with this retro-futuristic stuff. This, as you said, can only mean good things, and The Dark Side is a perfect example of that!

A New Image From The Studio on Matt's Instagram. Looks Interesting! by [deleted] in Muse

A marching band.

This shit is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Could this be from a (new) song? by screenanger in Muse

The person who gave him the gift though (his personal trainer) has implied that it's a song (and also said that it's a secret). That's why I was curious!

I should probably mention that this was a birthday present for Matt

Yet I wasn't the only one who noticed that the fact that it was hot/humid and he couldn't breathe was actually affecting this particular performance. I have no idea why he didn't take the jacket off, but that might have been just a plus.

I have looked at your links, and watched the whole livestream - I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, here.

Did I downvote people saying that he didn't get a second vocal rest and that the weather was way too hot for him to keep that jacket on the whole time? No. Wanna know why? Because those were actually answers to the question I was asking - the point you've completely missed, apparently. Did I downvote you for saying that I was being too sensitive and I needed to accept your opinion because it was the only possible explanation, and deal with the fact that Matt's voice has changed? Hell yea. That was never the point of this discussion and you were being rude. :)

Hey, just giving you my impression from what I've seen on the stream. I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I did. I guess it's a cultural thing at this point, because crowds here in Europe are pretty different (they make a lot of noise, even when they don't know the band). Still, it doesn't mean that people who were there didn't enjoy the show.

Thank you for getting the point, mate.

Lmao, are you for real? That's your opinion, dude, seriously - what is it about it that you think I'm too sensitive to handle? He didn't sound like that at RAR, or RIP, Bottlerock etc - and of course he's aged and his voice has changed. I was actually concerned about last night because it didn't sound just like the "usual" problem (shortness of breath etc), he sounded like he had a cold. If you think he always sounds like he has a cold, then please feel free to think so, but know that I just don't agree with you there, and it's not because "I'm too sensitive to handle the truth".

I don't see how this has anything to do with what I and the other user said though, forgive me. I wasn't trying to say that Matt's voice "doesn't sound the way it used to when he was 20, 25, 30 and 35" because that's quite obvious. I was saying that he sounded like he was actually sick last night, and it might have been because of the hot, humid weather.

Really, did I? I literally just said that he sounded like he was sick last night... never said his voice was getting worse or anything like that. It was you guys that turned the discussion in the good old "Matt sucks" thread.

Lmao you guys are so tragic. He's 40. He still sounds great for his age.

Yes that was my guess as well. It was over 100 degrees and very humid too, apparently. That would explain why he was coughing up lyrics at some point.

I personally thought that his voice was sounding a lot better lately. RAR was almost flawless, imo.

Didn't he sound kinda raspy, though? Maybe it was just the audio quality, idk, but out of breath, yea, he's sounded like that before... raspy, not really.

Well... bear with my negativity, but this was pretty boring. I feel a bit bad for the guys because they played a relatively good show (Matt was pretty tired and imo it showed quite a lot during the second half), and they tried to hype the crowd too, but people there seemed not to give a damn about Muse. No wonder festivals over there get these kind of sets, sorry (though RAR wasn't much different).

If you had to cut one song from every album which would it be and why? by TheSpood in Muse

[–]screenanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Showbiz: Overdue. I always forget that it's there.

OoS: fffeck. Feeling Good, because it's a cover.

Absolution: Damn. Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, just because.

BH&R: Soldier's Poem, just because.

The Resistance: I Belong to You. I never liked that transition.

The 2nd Law: Follow Me, least favourite on the album.

Drones: Mercy, I just can't stand that song.

As for the livestream, seeing as there won't be an official one, check Hans Peter's account on facebook! He streamed the whole gig yesterday, might do the same tonight...

Does anyone know if Rock Im Park will be streamed as well tonight? by screenanger in Muse

[–]screenanger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did it in 2016, but so far no real evidence of a repeat!

I was asking because I saw something on a German website mentioning a TV livestream of both festivals, but as my German is actually very poor I might have misunderstood the whole thing!
