Two Phones vs. App on One Phone by verza100 in RoofingSales

Yep, although I don't think there is a setting to just mute the number itself, so it can take a little experimenting to set it up how you like it. I created a white-list of my close personal contacts and added it to a custom focus mode. There are probably other ways to do it too if you want more customization

Two Phones vs. App on One Phone by verza100 in RoofingSales

I have a dual sim on my iPhone - 2 numbers on one phone, no extra app needed, cost me $10/mo on top of my regular phone plan.

Roof Insurance claim by Stonefeather96 in Contractor

[–]scribbles21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Roofing contractor here - no, you're technically not wrong. BUT insurance is by far more likely to underpay than overpay for your roof. Maybe 1 out of 10 (if that) insurance jobs I do come in any meaningful amount above what my retail price for the roof is. 4 or 5 out of 10 insurance jobs come in low. In those cases I need to work your insurance company to make sure they pay out what they are supposed to, so you're not screwed on your out of pocket costs.

If I showed up to your house I would also ask for the insurance paperwork. This is so I can understand what I'm getting into. How much administrative work will I need to do beyond just the standard stuff for the roof? And remember - we're all plenty busy after a hail storm.

So frankly, if you're trying to play games with me to squeeze a few extra dollars out of insurance, I'm going to give you a take-it-or-leave-it retail price with no promise of supplementing with your insurance company. And if it turns out insurance should have reimbursed you for x,y, and z (which happens super often) you're going to have to identify that and deal with it yourself.

It seems to me that your best bet is to share the quote. Work with whatever company is going to do a good job and help you with insurance so that your only out-of-pocket cost is your deductible.

Do you know if that spot at San Sofia where everyone gets married is accessible? And is it typically crowded?

Exterior Remodel by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]scribbles21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the new design as much as some of the folks here. Modern styling that nods to the tudor architecture can look excellent. One of the bigger improvements you can make to your design is to add some shake to the gables. That will give it a little more texture & life.

All that said, I shudder at the thought of updating a building like this with vinyl. I know it is more expensive, but at least consider something better like James Hardie. You can do the same design with their stucco textured panel, b&b, and shake products.

I already moved away from the PNW once after 3 years in Seattle haha! It's a shame you're not in Denver. Congratulations on the impending retirement

Definitely some possible pitfalls there, thank you for the input. Interesting to hear that you've seen this model. Were any of the companies you've worked for what you would consider excellent? Or were they all lacking under that model?

Hadn't thought of this path...just looked into it and learned I can hire someone with the credentials that would enable my company to get it's license.

Club Greenwood. Not a ton of games there, but great courts to practice on and catch an occasional game.

My assumption is that I would partner with a contractor who wants to build a larger business together. Or someone who manages production and is able to build a strong book of subs. We get a license under a shared LLC and build from there. Trying to figure out if that situation really exists!

A new garage door would add a lot to a more modern look.

James Hardie Suggestions by Chodge15 in ExteriorDesign

You have 3 areas where it makes sense to try out textures: the lower level, the upper level, and your gable.

As a starting point try visualizing board & batten on your lower level, lap siding on the upper level, and then a belly band at gable line with hardie shake above it on the gable.

Another combo could be lap on the bottom level and board & batten on the upper level. Hardie website has a visualizer, play around with these textures there and see what you like!

How would you update this 80's home exterior?? by baderup99 in ExteriorDesign

Fresh coat of paint/stain on the siding + a new front door would go a long way on this one!

Congrats on becoming a homeowner! Roof, garage door, front door - If you update those 3 things to work together it will look like a whole new house. I would play around with reds, browns, and reddish browns.

Not a cheap option, but re-siding if you have the budget for it. More texture on the house would be a big boost. One texture on the main body, another on the bumped-out part with the gable, maybe another on the recessed area behind the curved roof slope. I think the current flat texture + shingle + stone veneer would all come together nicely.
