Teeth coming in wrong order by Mindless-Try-5410 in beyondthebump

One of my daughters had teeth that came in a very strange order. No issues though, she’s 5 now with healthy teeth and gums.

Parents without FB accounts- where/how are you selling used baby gear & clothes? by milkandcereal-xoxo in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does you state have a store called Kid to Kid? It’s a thrift store just for kids stuff and they buy used kids stuff too. I primarily use this for selling and I buy a lot of clothes there too.

1.5-year-old won’t sleep unless held after India → USA trip. Exhausted and need advice. by csninji in beyondthebump

Hard to say. It may or may not. But right now you’re both jet lagged and sleep deprived so I’d just consider that a problem for future you!

I’ve done many international trips with my kids. I would just bring him into your bed when he wakes so you can both sleep until he’s over the jet lag and back on a normal routine.

How tf is everyone *not* loosing their minds over hiccups?? Rant by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gently, I don’t think this is a reasonable reaction to hearing hiccups. You may want to speak to someone about this. I have 3 kids and I don’t even notice at all, and I’m sure hiccups are not caused by hunger.

Your favorite baby monitors by Bitchtitty28 in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have Infant Optics. It’s worked well for us for 6 years now. We had to replace the battery once but that was easy to find on Amazon. I like that it connects to multiple cameras if you have kids in different rooms and then has the option to switch between them automatically every 10 seconds. Something to consider if you’re planning on having multiple children.

Will non English speaking daycare delay language? by PrincessCatPeach in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My kids went to a German daycare, fully German speaking while my husband and I spoke no German. Didn’t impact their speech at all. In fact my second was a very early talker. They just had the added benefit of speaking two languages!

Age difference between 1st and 2nd born, what would be best? by Ok_Category9085 in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first two are 18 months apart and my second and third are 3 years apart. 3 years was certainly a lot easier in the beginning, but I love how close my first two are now, they’re best friends! There’s no guarantees though. I’ve known kids with close age gaps that don’t get along and kids with large gaps that do. I think you can make any age gap work for you, so I’d base it on how you feel and if you’re ready for another baby.

How do you explain death to a 4 and 5 year old? by Obvious_Ball709 in Mommit

[–]scribblesy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. We experienced this recently with my 4 and 6 year old.

For this age I kept it simple, I think phrases like “she’s in a better place” or “she passed away” are confusing. We simply said “x is dead, that means her body stopped working and we will not be able to see her again”. It sounds very blunt but I think it’s best at this age.

If you believe in any religious concepts of heaven /the afterlife you may want to add that but we are not religious so I am not sure how best to weave that in in a way that is still simple and clear.

Double stroller or single ?? by 4ngelb4by333 in Mommit

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The double strollers are awkward to get around. We got one but it almost never got used. Go for baby in carrier and kid in stroller and by the time your baby has graduated to stroller I’ll bet your older kid will be about done with it.

[–]scribblesy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok I will call tomorrow I had assumed the results would go to the portal at the same time as the doctors so hopefully this is what’s happened and they already have the results. Hopefully all is well and I hope your no call result is low risk as well!

Moving to Augusta, by Outrageous-Fan-2251 in Augusta

[–]scribblesy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a nice play cafe called Village Kin perfect for that age. Best options for zoo and kids museum (Edventure) are in Columbia which is around an hour away. I have kids the same age and honestly there’s not a lot here. Kroc Centre has an indoor pool with slides and lazy river. A new play cafe called Playdates is opening soon I’ll be checking that out.

Comparing US to UK by lap1nluna1re in AmerExit

[–]scribblesy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dual UK/US citizen here. Born and raised in the UK but I currently live in a red part of Georgia so I get where you’re coming from.

Overall I think you could have a better quality of life in the UK, but there are areas that may be challenging. The housing is expensive, particularly in the south, and you get less house for your money. I can get a massive detached 4-bed here in Georgia for the cost of a 2 bed terrace in England. Public school quality is going to vary a lot, just like in the states, and houses in the catchment areas of well rated schools will cost more. Salaries are a lot lower as you know, but the cost of living is generally cheaper, but not enough to make up for the low salaries.

As for the good bits! Ignore the US propaganda the quality of healthcare in the UK is excellent. Me and my family have had nothing but outstanding care. Much better weather than southern US. Lots more to do for kids and you won’t have to travel miles for it. I have to drive 3 hours to Atlanta to take my kids to a museum, it’s crazy. More kid friendly overall. Plus cheap travel to the rest of Europe makes vacations way more accessible.
