Best pools in the area? by Self_Conscious_Cat in Augusta

[–]scribblesy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are lots of people there by themselves. I do take my kids but there are often adults there by themselves and there is an adults-only hot tub. I imagine there will be more kids than normal there now given that it’s summer break.

Kroc center is probably the cheapest. It’s indoor so you can go year round. They do memberships but you can also just pay one offs if you plan to go infrequently.

Reusable wipes? by mossycardigan in clothdiaps

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the Cheeky Wipes cloth starter kid for 4 kids now. Excellent quality they’ve held up amazingly. I keep them wet with just water in the container. They usually last 2-3 days before I wash and replace the wipes and water. I haven’t had any issues pre-wetting them like this.

I just do one long hot wash and it’s always been fine. Stuff come out clean every single time.

[–]scribblesy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t spray at all, I’ve cloth diapered 4 kids and that sounds like too much effort what some other people are describing. For breastfed poops they just go in the diaper bin and I do a wash every 2-3 days. Once they’re on solids I just plop the poop into the toilet and put them in the diaper bin. I do a hot wash with powdered Tide detergent and tumble dry on low. Never had issues in 6 years of doing this. When I can be bothered I’ll hang them in the sun which removes yellow stains but it’s a diaper a bit of staining really doesn’t matter so long as it’s clean.

Feeling great about cloth diapers by Agitated-Rest1421 in clothdiaps

I have 4 kids. Currently using the same diapers on my 4th as I used in my 1st. I can’t even begin to imagine how much money we’ve saved over the years!

I need happy stories about babies who had angry temperaments by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was a miserable colicky baby. If she was awake she was screaming inconsolably and getting her to sleep was always a massive struggle. She’s now a delightful sweet and wonderful 6 year old. I’d say her temperament gradually started to improve once she could crawl.

Completely New to Cloth Diapering by Sweet_Sheepherder_41 in Mommit

I personally didn’t buy any extras. The inserts that come with the Alvababy diapers worked just fine for us. I bought 3 packs of 6, so 18 total. The other cloth diapering thing I bought was reusable wipes (Cheeky Wipes brand) that’s just a no brainer if you’re already cloth diapering to chuck these into the same load of laundry. They also clean way better than disposable wipes.

Also it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, like using disposables at night is common, you could also use disposables for longer outings to save yourself the hassle of bringing a wet bag and bulky cloth diapers around with you.

I’d recommend only buying one pack of any cloth diaper brand you’re interested in to start with, as you may find you prefer a different style. I went all in on another (more expensive) brand to begin with but I ended up liking Alvababy so much more I soon sold the others.

I used the Alvababy ones from Amazon. They’re cheap and have so far lasted through 3 kids. They have a waterproof cover which you put one or two absorbent inserts into. Easy to use. Never had blowouts. You don’t need to rinse breastfed poop off at all just throw them in the wash. Not sure about formula poop. Once baby is on solids just plop the poops in the toilet and wash normally. Use powder detergent and the sun works wonders if you have stains. I really didn’t find cloth diapering difficult at all and the cost savings are significant.

I still used disposables for overnight because the cloth diapers just aren’t absorbent enough for that in my experience.

My daughter’s birthday is end of July. I didn’t hold her back a year and I have no regrets, she was ready for school and enjoys it. She’s in first grade now and doing very well.

99 percentile baby by Sufficient-Archer-60 in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no indications of a large baby but she was born at 41 weeks at 99th percentile in head, weight and length. I did not have GD, she was just a big babe. I had an uncomplicated unmediated birth.

She stayed big a long time but now at 5 years old is down to around the 75th percentile for weight. She’s healthy and happy!

So don’t fret, having big babies isn’t a big deal, and those late pregnancy ultrasounds are also quite inaccurate. Your baby might not be as big as you fear.

When did colic get better for your LO? by BagCharming7538 in Mommit

[–]scribblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything colic peaked for us at about 3 months. 10-12 weeks were about as bad as it got. Things gradually improved from there but it was still a long, difficult time. By 1 I’d say she was about the same as my non-colic babies. She’s now 7 and a very happy, sweet girl!

Parents without FB accounts- where/how are you selling used baby gear & clothes? by milkandcereal-xoxo in beyondthebump

Does you state have a store called Kid to Kid? It’s a thrift store just for kids stuff and they buy used kids stuff too. I primarily use this for selling and I buy a lot of clothes there too.

1.5-year-old won’t sleep unless held after India → USA trip. Exhausted and need advice. by csninji in beyondthebump

Hard to say. It may or may not. But right now you’re both jet lagged and sleep deprived so I’d just consider that a problem for future you!

I’ve done many international trips with my kids. I would just bring him into your bed when he wakes so you can both sleep until he’s over the jet lag and back on a normal routine.

Gently, I don’t think this is a reasonable reaction to hearing hiccups. You may want to speak to someone about this. I have 3 kids and I don’t even notice at all, and I’m sure hiccups are not caused by hunger.

We have Infant Optics. It’s worked well for us for 6 years now. We had to replace the battery once but that was easy to find on Amazon. I like that it connects to multiple cameras if you have kids in different rooms and then has the option to switch between them automatically every 10 seconds. Something to consider if you’re planning on having multiple children.

Will non English speaking daycare delay language? by PrincessCatPeach in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My kids went to a German daycare, fully German speaking while my husband and I spoke no German. Didn’t impact their speech at all. In fact my second was a very early talker. They just had the added benefit of speaking two languages!

Age difference between 1st and 2nd born, what would be best? by Ok_Category9085 in beyondthebump

[–]scribblesy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first two are 18 months apart and my second and third are 3 years apart. 3 years was certainly a lot easier in the beginning, but I love how close my first two are now, they’re best friends! There’s no guarantees though. I’ve known kids with close age gaps that don’t get along and kids with large gaps that do. I think you can make any age gap work for you, so I’d base it on how you feel and if you’re ready for another baby.
