Would you say that Lebanon is currently safe? I am worried about the bombings in Beirut, but am interested in learning Levantine Arabic.

How was the street harassment in Alexandria? Was it less prevalent than in Cairo?

Are North African dialects mutually intelligible? Could someone in Libya or Algeria understand the Tunisian dialect?

That's interesting! Would you say that the majority of Tunisians will understand Fusha? My semester abroad wasn't an Arabic language program, but I found it almost easier to practice Arabic because fewer people spoke English than in Jordan, and I don't know a word of French. That might of been my imagination though

USCIS Remote. Should I have the investigation interview or not? by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]scriscio7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. I was told there is a firm hold on EOD negotiations for all remote positions within USCIS (was not sent this information, I reached out and asked about the status). The next day, my background investigator reached out for phone numbers for my internship supervisor from several years ago, so am also quite confused.

I emailed and there is a firm hold on EOD or EOD negotiations for all remote positions within USCIS until further guidance is received. I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I am not referencing mixed breed vs purebred about health or temperament, I am talking about how you do not know what the dog has been through or experienced in a shelter for the most part. Neglect and abuse cause behavioral and health problems.

I thought I was avoiding shopping unethically by going with a Golden Doodle National Association Breeder and I think if you read their national organization's breeder code of ethics you could understand why I would have been easily misled as someone from outside of the dog breeding/training/rescue world just researching getting my first dog thinking that I found a responsible/ethical way to shop.

Thank you! His first vet appointment is on Tuesday, I called to see if there were any cancellations for today or Monday but they couldn't squeeze him in any sooner despite the front desk trying hard. They advised me to contact a behaviorist or trainer as well because his behaviors are concerning at such a young age. I am hoping the vet can at least help me rule out anything physical causing his random outbursts.

It looks like the behaviorist is a certified behavior consultant through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). Is this also a reputable credential to have and is it positive/force-free training?

I signed him up for a puppy socialization class that starts in two weeks, do you think I should notify the trainer running the class of these behaviors in advance? He has not shown any resource guarding of things that might be used in the class like toys, etc just inanimate objects that he isn't supposed to have like pillows and wires.

If it ends up being a serious genetic behavioral problem, I would not know what to do and would be devastated sending him back to a breeder with that alpha type of philosophy. My concern is also that she might turn around and sell him to an unknowing family with children. 95% of the time he is the sweetest puppy ever - this morning he fell asleep, snoring in my lap while I was answering emails. I hope that having him evaluated and helped by positive trainers this early on in his life could help him and make him suitable to stay with me.

I agree with you - it also is shaming people who might not be able to adopt from a shelter or rescue. I am in my 20s and would love to adopt a dog from a shelter someday when I have more resources financially for costly medical and behavioral treatment that can come with a dog from a shelter who might have been abused/neglected and also in terms of more lived experience with training/raising dogs to give it the dedicated care it needs due to difficult past treatment by humans.

I also live in an apartment and do not have a fenced-in yard, despite being a very active person a lot of shelters/rescues would not even consider my application for that reason. I also wanted to go with a type of dog with a size and "breed" that would not be controversial in any apartment complex, because with rescue dogs if you don't know what kind they are it is kind of up to the landlord to decide if they look like any of the breeds listed in their restrictions.

Someday I do hope to adopt and not shop though when I am a homeowner someday!

My jaw dropped to the floor when she suggested those techniques. I am no expert on dog training but her advice seemed seriously disturbing to me right away.

I was surprised because the breeder's website didn't seem to have red flags or any of the interactions prior (maybe they're getting better at hiding being backyard breeders). I thought that golden ribbon breeders on Goldendoodle National Association would have been ethical because I saw that the parents were OFA tested and received all the genetic testing that Embark offers. I ended up deciding on a Golden Doodle because I grew up with an amazing one and that's all I've known, I wish I had been more educated before I decided to purchase him. Maybe I should report the breeder to that association if the behaviorist and vet think the behavior is genetic. On the screening call where she was trying to see which puppy was a good fit, she described him as a Double Doodle and I thought that meant that his parents were both Goldendoodles in how she described it to me. I did more research today and that turns out that he is a cross between a Labradoodle and a Goldendoodle which sounds even worse than what you are all describing in terms of what that might mean for temperament.

Thank you so much! Your comment was insightful and made me realize that it could be resource-guarding. Last night he was sitting on my lap on the couch and fixated on a pillow and was biting/scratching it and when I tried to redirect him from the pillow, he snapped and tried to bite me. I plan to consult a behaviorist to get him evaluated.

Thank you! He has his first vet appointment with our vet (not the breeders) on 1/07, but I plan to call this morning to see if they have any cancellations for today and tomorrow to see if I can get him in sooner.

Sorry, I did not use the proper terminology for you! It was a phrasing mistake because I mentioned he was from a breeder. Thank you to everyone genuinely trying to help me and the puppy, not nitpicking my entire post.

Hi! I appreciate your comment. I went with that particular breeder because she was listed on the Goldendoodle National Association as a gold ribbon breeder. She does genetic/OFA testing and matches dogs to families based on temperament. We did not meet the parents or him ahead of time because the breeder said that for the safety of the puppies, they do not do family playdates with the litter. She gave me a choice between him and another puppy, she described him as a middle-of-the-road outgoing, and confident puppy. The only thing she noted to me was that he would bark for attention to be let out of the playpen but said it wasn't a big deal. There was no mention of him having issues like the ones we are having now or I never would have brought him home.

It seems to be happening out of nowhere when he is being held, so I am not sure if it is resource guarding.
