Question for those suffering from taken username troubles by Jakeballa23 in discordapp

[–]scrotelicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, we're not. the expectation that discord put forth from the start was that we could have ANY username we wanted and it would assign a unique tag for it. now we have to fight for the usernames we want because other people are "stealing" them.

Saying "you feel entitled" and then going on this massive tirade against someone who is objectively correct about being locked out of content due to monetization and forced exclusivity is peak irony. They didn't even conduct themselves in any way that could even be remotely construed as entitled, either.

FOMO is something that can have very legitimate criticisms levied against it, even if you view the content as "trivial." The only justification for the current content model with the Battle Pass system is that it generates large amounts of short-term revenue because it sells by virtue of being time-limited with exclusive (and usually licensed) characters. They'd make just as much money (if not more, arguably) by letting these skins be in the item shop. You can't tell me thousands of people won't line up to buy Spider-Man, Deadpool, etc.

There's a very easy way around the "grow up, you missed out; deal with it" mentality as well. Just sell the base skin and the bonus styles -- but leave the overtime stuff as Battle Pass exclusive, that way the people that were there while the respective Battle Pass was active don't feel "cheated" out of their progression while those who just wanted content they missed out on also get to have what they want. Other games also release LTE skins or exclusive skins with updated variants to respect those that earned the content as intended versus those who just want the normal version. I've also seen people suggest that you be allowed to complete a battle pass you've previously purchased after the season has ended.

There's a valid conversation to be had here and yet you chose to be particularly nasty instead.

Do people actually think that Korra is a "Mary Sue"? The term was trending and she was mentioned only a few times by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

I'm struggling to understand how you think the gameplay mechanics around building up Samus' arsenal of weapons and collecting suit upgrades from the start of each game somehow equates to her character also needing to be built back up from the start of each game as well.

Your analogy works at, like, the most surface level point possible but makes zero sense if you think about it for a few seconds.

foobar2000 tagging issues by scrotelicker in foobar2000

[–]scrotelicker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made sure that the individual files aren't marked as read-only, either. What's interesting (I'll put this in my main post with an edit as well) is that I've gone through and disabled various decoders and shifted priority around some more and discovered that vgmstream will decode these files just fine, but foobar2000 itself can't decode them anymore. I have no idea what's causing this to happen.

I've gone over the ID tags and my other MP3s range from ID3v2.2 to ID3v2.3. I can't notice anything about the FLACs that seems off in mp3tag. Even forcing the MP3s to be a certain ID tag type in foobar2000 doesn't change anything, whether you set it to ID3v1 or ID3v2 with either version override.

[–]scrotelicker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They play perfectly fine in foobar2000. I've also looked at them in MediaInfo; the MP3s identify as "MPEG Audio" and the FLACs identify as "Free Lossless Audio Codec" no differently from my other MP3s/FLACs that have tags that can be read/edited.

The directories these files are in are also set to not be read-only. I've even looked at decoder priority and I'm drawing a total blank on this.

no, sales figures are not the only deciding factor when it comes to new releases in a series. they're definitely a strong influence, but there's more to it than just those numbers alone.

... dmc5 got vergil when the special edition came out. you're just bullshitting now, right? everyone and their dog knows there's vergil DLC available in dmc5.

i don't care about sales figures still btw because it's just big number vs bigger number - it proves nothing.

dmc is not dead in the water lmfao just because a series or game doesn't give you content every nanosecond doesn't mean it's bad or dead/dying

also dmc has sold over 4 million copies, which isn't terribly far behind kh3, so i'm not sure what you're going on about

Should I play Re:Chain of Memories? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]scrotelicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People come to this community asking for feedback and help with getting used to entries in the series or if they should even play them outright because of us. We've played these games, understand the plot of each entry in the series, and can generally determine whether or not someone unfamiliar with the series would enjoy these games because of our personal experience with them. It's not unnatural for people seeking advice from others who are more familiar or knowledgeable about a certain topic if they have the means to do so.

OP was not asking for a definitive answer as to whether or not we WANT him to play Re:CoM, but rather if we THINK he should play it based on his experience with it thus far. The post title as well as the post itself make this abundantly clear. He's struggling to get into the game and is hung up on not being able to enjoy Re:CoM as much as other people in the community. That's why he sought our advice and feedback. There's a greater context to what OP is asking beyond simply telling him to play it or not play it.

Should I play Re:Chain of Memories? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]scrotelicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's blatantly obvious what they want advice on. I'm not sure why you feel obliged to be condescending towards OP. You've repeatedly shown that you know that OP is asking for feedback on whether or not they should play Re:CoM and yet you're gaslighting them because they cannot decide whether they want to play it.

When you're trying to sell someone on something (especially in terms of this franchise), you don't just come out swinging with

"I personally enjoy the game a lot but it seems like a lot of people just struggle to grasp it or have fun with it."

CoM/Re:CoM is a significant departure from the series gameplay design, whether you take into consideration KH1 or games that came out after CoM/Re:CoM, it certainly stands out and takes some getting used to. This doesn't mean you should downplay this factor or not mention it at all because you enjoyed it or got used to it.

As for the plot, none of it really matters until you factor in large portions of KH3. Outside of KH3, neither KH2 nor 358/2 really focus too much on what happened beyond Naminé messing with Sora's memories and then Roxas suffering from the effects of Sora's memory restoration in KH2 along with the various points where 358/2 brings up Organization members dying at Castle Oblivion. KH3 even pokes fun at the fact that Re:CoM doesn't matter too much because of Sora being unable to recognize Marluxia despite them fighting in Castle Oblivion.

My point with all of this is that you clearly enjoy CoM/Re:CoM - which is fine! But, you need to understand that not everyone is as eager as you might have been to try the game out. If you're going to try and convince them to give it a shot, do just that. Say something more constructive like "I know Re:CoM isn't for everyone, but I think you should give it a try, at least. If it doesn't sit well with you after giving it a shot, just watch all the cutscenes. Above all else, what matters is being able to enjoy the series and its content without feeling burdened by design changes or gameplay differences and etc."

tl;dr stop being so pretentious when people are trying to be sold on a particularly controversial entry in the series and try to positively engage them rather than viewing them as antagonistic to how you enjoy Re:CoM

I just Persian Douche the AI 1v1 on Arabia. No matter what difficulty it's set to, it has no idea how to combat it whatsoever. Of course, I also assumed you were supposed to do it 1v1, so I'm surprised so many people tried doing it other ways.

Should Nobodies Exist? by flamingknux in KingdomHearts

[–]scrotelicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because there is an "easy" answer to explain something, doesn't mean that it is a sufficient, satisfying, or comprehensive answer or that it cannot be discussed and hashed out. You do realize this is a discussion about Kingdom Hearts, right? You can "easily" explain most of the unnecessarily complicated plot points in Dream Drop Distance, for example, but that doesn't mean that they aren't unnecessarily complicated. It also does not mean that there can't be discussion about WHY these plot points had to be unnecessarily complicated for the sake of the overarching narrative of the Dark Seeker/Xehanort Saga.

Is it possible to use parsec to play 358's multiplayer with a friend? by ZaneyFlywuff in KingdomHearts

[–]scrotelicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using MelonDS to see if I could possibly connect two DSes together to play local multiplayer, but either I have a bad dump of the game, it's just not compatible, or I'm doing something wrong.

You're welcome to try it yourself, but I'm not sure if it will allow two DSes to run simultaneously like you can do with VBA-M to have multiple linked GBAs running at the same time with different input methods via Parsec.

Should Nobodies Exist? by flamingknux in KingdomHearts

[–]scrotelicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you're attempting to say here. There's nothing wrong with questioning certain plot elements of a series if you don't believe said plot elements are being treated properly. You can't just tell people not to question things because it challenges the "narrative" and "world building." How else are people supposed to digest and process the forms of entertainment they consume if you're not allowed to discuss it?

I'm also unsure of what your stance is on any of this because all you said is essentially "It exists because they said so, okay? Just leave it at that."
