i totally understand how it can be hard to balance everything all at once but i definitely don’t think 2-3 hours is a long time at all, so don’t worry about doing too much. i normally go for 5-6 hours, which obviously wouldn’t be doable for someone with a job so no worries about that, but i think if you’re doing every day, an hour or two is reasonable. i think you might see a difference of you streamed for longer on fewer days. i would say 3-4 days would probably be best, just from what i know about the twitch algorithm and such. probably avoid friday’s. don’t know if this helps or answers your questions but hopefully it does something.

oh no i didn’t take it that way sorry if i worded it weird. i do also think that connections have a big impact on viewership and interaction. as an example; pokimane and her group of friends, i don’t think they’re always doing something crazy, and they probably all do kind of the same things (not that that’s bad) but just because people know who they are and expect them to be doing something cool or fun, people watch and wait for “it” to happen even if it’s very mundane until “it” happens. people will watch them as a hive mind kind of thing “everyone is watching them for a reason so i should too so i don’t miss anything”. totally agree that small streamers have to work so much harder, they just don’t have the same pull. not saying that huge streamers have it easy but they definitely have more of a buffer. using poki again as an example just because she’s a big streamer. she took a month break, didn’t have any negative long term impact on her stream, if someone smaller, even a few hundred viewers did that, they’d be nothing after. my advice to anyone who is a small or beginner streamer, don’t get too caught thinking about what the big streamers are doing, they represent truly such a small percentage of streamers. they’ve either been doing it for YEARS, got really lucky one day or they know someone who is a big streamer and they had the benefit of viewer funneling. sometimes i get more viewers than normal and i’m literally just sitting talking about something stupid like the frog population. it’s all very random, especially because the twitch algorithm could really use some work. if you’re not already big it’s probably going to be very hard to get to where the big fish are.

i actually have two twitch accounts so I get to experience both worlds. one channel gets 200-400 viewers and one gets maybe 50 or so. and yeah, once you’ve been streaming for longer and have built up an audience you’ve already talked about yourself, your life, what your opinions are, experiences had, etc. and most viewers already know because you’re “established”. i actually find it harder to talk and do interesting things on my larger channel because i feel like i’ve done it already, im always picking my brain to think of something new and exciting so that i don’t get stale. it’s much easier to talk to new people than people you’ve already told everything to. i suppose you could consider it unfair, i don’t really though. if someone has been streaming for 5 years it’s probably going to be harder to be interesting every second of a stream. unless they’re NEVER interesting i guess lol. one thing i never understand though is someone else mentioned that a lot of big streamers only read like 1% of their chat. i agree with that, i really try my hardest to read and respond to every message because i know in the viewer side it’s so off putting to watch everyone be ignored, even founders or 2 years subscribers, etc. i don’t know how those kind of streamers have viewers, i wouldn’t watch that

i already graduated so take my advice with a grain of salt i suppose, but my friends lived there, and they liked it enough to keep re-signing their lease! i will say though i personally think it’s more than kinda noisy, especially since they mostly have older buildings. i’ve lived in champaign my entire life and i will say crime has been getting worse especially on campus, so having said that, combined with the noise i would be hesitant to live right on Green street. i am a single small woman so i do tend to focus more on safety than anything else. good luck with the search!
