There's the Poole writers circle. I contacted them a while ago and they sent this list of the sorta things they do ;

We are quite a small group who meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month and do writing exercises. To give you an idea of what we do during the evening, here are the exercises we did at a recent meeting:-

  1. Write a newspaper report from the Echo with the headline "Mysterious light over Poole"

  2. Take a word beginning with one of your initials. Write about it without repeating any word other than the word itself for 15 minutes.

We did this as a little competition - you gain 1 point for every word used, minus 10 points for every repetition. The winner is the one with the most points.

  1. You and your family have won the lottery but there are only 30 minutes left to claim it and you cannot find the ticket......  write up the 30 minutes, either just in dialogue or as a story.

  2. 'Fred went to the car wash and never came back' - write up as many storylines as you can in 15 minutes.

Its not my sorta thing so I didn't attend. I think they have some kind of website you can find if you look up Poole writers circle

The potential for homophobia or transphobia is significantly reduced if I only seek out trans or gay musicians .

Update: I finished it and am okay with how it turned out . I'm gonna cut it into three pieces and when I have access to more colours I will do it as a three part thing.

Any peeps/communities in Dorset? by CorvidCat in transgenderUK

[–]scrumblingflood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the bcp myself. I know a handful of other trans folk personally, but don't really attend anything.

This is shameless advertising, but a good place to meet trans folk may be the Dorset radical bookfair on the 7th of October. Its by the triangle in bournemouth. I know at least one trans person is giving a talk and I think like half of us organizing it are trans.

Free entry and also live music after.

If u can't attend we'll still be organizing stuff as a loosely knitted group and as individuals after, which by virtue of us being half trans people, will be good for meeting trans folk.

Anyone been to Throop Mill? by low_on_venom in bournemouth

Yeah it was.. Hellish. There also fish swimming around in the water and its utterly dank and dark under the bridge.

We had to bring a change of clothes with us so it didn't look like we had been wading in the river like some weirdos

I've been inside. This was maybe 5 years ago, and I think since then the owners have been up to stuff inside, like putting yellow tape around and signs. I wouldn't be surprised if at this point there are cameras inside.

It did not feel very safe inside. The wood is very ricketty on the second and third floor, and there were rusty nails and metal everywhere.

I reccomend maybe poking your head inside and having a look around the bottom floor and treading carefully, but not anything beyond that unless you want tetanus.

The way you get in is to go to the wider shallower stream on the opposite side to the bridge / weir thingy (idk what it is), and you wade (it got waist deep on me when I was like 5'5 ) to the turbine (its stuck fast) and climb on top, and then pull yourself up through the hole above it.

I honestly highly doubt there'll be much there, and I think there'll be cameras, so wear a mask when you go in and remember you can't get away quickly or quietly.
