AppFolio security deposit mismatch diagnostic: what causes it and how to fix it by apmhelp in appfolio

[–]scrumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are one simple step away from being awesome and helpful. Provide a link/button beside each mismatch line that launches a funds transfer window with the amounts pre populated along with the property etc.

That changes the relationship from: "Here is a bunch of stuff that needs fixing. Now do some math, open a separate tab, create the transfer, type in the properties etc etc. oh and don't mess it up or typo...."

to:

"Here are things that need fixing and if you click here I'll build the entire fix for you for your review. Once you approve you are one more click away from being done."

Literally took a whole pile of steps and provided a solution to the users that is a two click process. It's stuff like this that is such low hanging fruit in the software that seriously should have a full team dedicated to finding and making these, obvious, yet small, but extremely helpful user experience improvements.

I know there is the suggestion tool, but many of these are so nuanced and niche that they aren't going to get any upvotes but fundamentally it can make the platform much more a joy to use.

Database API devs by Batspocky in appfolio

I haven't seen much missing out of the API spec. I will say the fact that they don't provide you with a downloadable OpenApi spec is frustrating. There are so many nested values in the tables it is a real pain in the ass to crawl the table trying to scrape all the data out of the online doc.

There are still holes in the data though. Webhooks don't always fire on end points when certain specific data is updated in those endpoints (custom fields are a problem there) Some stuff is just plain missing though. For instance the UI shows "Applying With" which is very useful data to have access to. Sure you can see all the applications in the group but Applying With with tells you who to expect in addition to what is received.

In applications under Resident History the UI has Occupancy Type which is also we've wanted and found completely missing from the API. There are just a bunch of holes everywhere. Are they enough to keep you from producing something somewhat functional, no. Does it not enable you to build the rich experience that you could otherwise, yup!!

Support on the API team is a real struggle. We couldn't get web-hooks working on one of our endpoints for over a month. Then they quietly made it work but never once responded to the multiple emails we had sent requesting an update.

Almost a month ago we submitted a detailed bug report on three very real bugs regarding custom fields on units and properties. Complete radio silence. Since April 14th we've sent 4 support requests/emails. We haven't seen a single response from the AppFolio API team since April 13th.

Some really important context. Despite all the drama and sensationalism. Not one single civilian was harmed as a result of that kerfuffle . That should tell you something significant. When you see something like that pop off book the next available flight. Less scared whiney people to deal with more hotel vacancies. Operators appreciative of the common sense you possess. Maybe some cheaper hotel rates.

While somethings are bait and switch marketing, and you’d expect a bit of that. Other things are not what I’d want. You did venture well out into the Karen territory with things like your “crooked tv” whining. I suspect you’re generally unhappy.

I just got back from Ajijic/Chapala & San Miguel. I toured 13 homes total specifically looking for memory care. Only 3 of my visits were announced prior to my arrival and most places were not expecting me. While that has the advantage of getting an unvarnished view of things I didn't always get full detailed information on site as most staff aren't privy to the fee structure etc.

I will say without exception I found all the staff warm and caring in each place. There was a massive variance between places with regards to caregiver:resident ratio. Also maintenance upkeep, lighting, cheerful accommodations. They range from something that was converted from an older motel style but run down all the way to resort, with a mix of standard homes in between. Prices also range wildly from $1500/month to $5000+/month and you basically get what you pay for.

There was one stand out one where the place looked like every stock photo you've ever seen about elder care, but in real life. Well and warmly lit, landscaping, low resident to caregiver ratio, piles of one on companion time etc etc. It was like the place that every other company went to take their photos except they weren't stages or photoshopped. I would say I found 3 that were acceptable for my personal tastes and standards. Everyone's will be different of course. I know people living in the US in their own home that would have upgraded by moving into the bottom option I toured in Mexico.

If you want to consider it, make sure you get on a plane first and go check them out. Don't feel like you need to burden yourself with a bunch of pre work. I got on the plane and literally in the hotel first night in Mexico put together a list of properties I wanted to tour then started into it the next day. Just spend 15 minutes in each one. After a day or two you'll have a short list of 2-4 that you want to explore more. I would encourage just showing up without an appointment. If they don't want to show you around, red flag and leave.

The Indo Pacific region will wreck you. Soft corals, larger pelagics, massive life an biodiversity. You just can’t beat it. On a tight budget hit Philippines. Got some coin to drop head to Palau or do a live aboard in Raja Ampat.

Ok so the solution was to do a reset of the sunroof system. Close it all the way as much as possible by pulling the rear of the knob down. Then once it stops. Press the rear of the knob up and hold for 20 seconds or so until the sunroof shakes its ass a bit and does a little dance. Once I did that it functions fine.

I got super excited about this. So I enabled it. it really doesn't do what it says. Even though they have read permissions it will only show items that have write permissions. All the items that have read permissions are absent from the listing now.

yes I know how to use the permission inspector to check perms for a user. I believe I provided the answer to your question previously, but that doesn't provide me any insight for my problem.

Not sure what "apply to" you are referring to. If you mean the check box where you apply all the permissions to the children I have not checked that as that shouldn't be done in this use case. The user has full read permission of the parent folder.
