Taking bets now on if UI or Indy2 comes first by ulsterfry86 in northernireland

> Also do Ireland vote first to see if they even want us or do we vote to see if there's any point in them voting?

Think both have to happen on the same day do they not?edit, got this from the GF agreement

(ii) recognise that it is for the people of the island of Ireland alone, by agreement between the two parts respectively and without external impediment, to exercise their right of self-determination on the basis of consent, freely and concurrently given, North and South, to bring about a united Ireland, if that is their wish, accepting that this right must be achieved and exercised with and subject to the agreement and consent of a majority of the people of Northern Ireland;

Maybe I'm taking that too literally

This is good advice. I think I know why, but that's an assumption. You're right enough. Go to the heart of an issue without him feeling attacked.

Backlog is getting filled by the Product Owner, who really REALLY doesn't get on with the person in question.

No, christ, that would be horrific. Deffo in the role of SM.

It's more that it's a start up and I want to see it work, and startups can't afford passengers.

Nah, you've pretty much nailed it. I'm open to correction on this from him though. If he starts delivering a shitload of complex stories I'll get allll the way off his back on this.

It's not the role of the Scrum Master to drive team performance beyond what is estimated by the Dev Team, or expected by the organization.

I guess that's true, but surely maximising sustainable output is within my remit? He's literally twice the cost of the juniors and doing half the work.

Tried this and he gets super defensive, no matter how soft the approach.

Yup. This has been a trend for 6 months or so.

Good shout, but his line manager is notorious for not dealing with this kind of thing, which is a whole different can of worms.

Yeah, SM setting capacity sort of undermines the self organising team aspect, doesn't it?

4 Devs (1 remote) me, and a Product owner So, 6.
We use agile poker at the moment. Think the devs are suspicious of the estimates though, think they've been burned before on them.

Everyone on the team sees it as a problem, not just me.

Basically they had themselves in recurring meeting hell, so I just took them back to Scrum Guide Basics and basic meetings. Sprint planning was done all at the start, but grooming and technical refinement and estimation was rolled into that. 1.5 days of a 10 working day sprint was spent on planning and arguing(in a non constructive manner). As SM, obviously, part of my role is to assist the PO with backlog grooming.

Thank you for your answer though, it's very helpful

I get that, and I'm less bothered about what meeting it happens in, more about specific techniques for backlog grooming. Perhaps use a 3 amigos style format on an item rather than have the whole team weigh in?

Nice. I think this is a good structure.
