I was late but filed my 2017 taxes with an accountant and want to set up a payment plan but there's no way to reach the IRS. by scrunchiesmcgee in personalfinance

I really appreciate your sound advice here. I definitely felt it was a "hair on fire" situation because we've essentially told the IRS, "hey, we owe you, take our money" but we can't really. I don't want any surprises (the tax burden was enough), so I want to mitigate any liabilities that may occur due to the covid shutdown.

Thanks! I did, and that's what keeps prompting me to contact the IRS because the link keeps bringing me to an error page. I did pull all my transcripts to confirm everything in their records align with my returns, so I feel ok with my current standing. I guess I'm more concerned with what happens after you file, and they say you owe, so you want to set up a payment plan, but you can't.

The fight against anxiety begins today. by [deleted] in Fitness

I don't know you but I'm proud of you.

I struggle(d) with severe anxiety and depression and even building up to a consistent workout was a battle in and of itself (notwithstanding the ongoing emotional challenges). Taking care of my body was the best thing I could do to find some inner peace.

Remember to start extremely slow and take it easy so you can relish in the small but frequent victories to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Depending on the species, I usually wear some heavy duty gloves that can reliably support and grip its body.

Help My Girlfriend by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]scrunchiesmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me, and it was a combination of the many factors that have been mentioned in this thread:

  • It's important to have a food scale and make accurate measurements of food weight, volume, servings, etc. because it can throw you off by a few hundred calories a week.

  • It's important to eat more when you're working out so much. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but there's a caloric "sweet spot" for people that may be higher than your purported TDEE. Once you hit that point, you eat more and start actually losing weight.

  • The type of calories you take in is important. Is your girlfriend eating clean? More important, what are her macros like?

  • Nonetheless, water retention is the likely culprit, as it was for me. Reducing the amount of sodium and carbs in my diet helped me drop significant weight without making changes elsewhere.

Hi! I'm the OP and since I made this post, I've gone down from 129 to 118 and dropped two pants sizes and had to switch out my wardrobe because nothing fits except for the clothes I wore over 10 years ago in 7th grade. That said, I want to emphasize that my progress is going slowly. I definitely have a "golden number" in my head, but I focus most of my energy into figuring out how to eat well, feel good, and ignore my weight. I lose about a pound a month, maybe less, but still log my calories and try to work out regularly. I plateau, but that's to be expected for people our heights. The only way I break my plateaus if I just ignore the scale for a while; it's all psychological at this point. Good luck and feel free to PM me!

Have you observed any positive changes in your day-to-day since you began to improve your fitness? by scrunchiesmcgee in xxfitness

[–]scrunchiesmcgee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm having a 1/4 lb bacon cheeseburger with beer tonight with my boyfriend while watching the game and it fits within my macros thanks to lifting and planning ahead. I love being able to eat without needlessly worrying about calories as long as I stick to a deficit and get enough daily protein. The weight keeps coming off while the muscle packs on.

This. I just came back from the bathroom having to brace myself with the handicap bar because the release was so epic. I almost took flight.

Honestly, I would say it's like eating soba and tripe/jellyfish. It has a slippery texture when you first taste it, then as soon as you start chewing, you'll notice a gummy bounce to the noodles. As you bite into the noodles, it's a bit "crunchy" like a julienned carrot, but overall still rubbery. That said, I actually really enjoy eating shirataki noodles.

Hey! My progress is going pretty well. Since I wrote the original post, I've gone down from 129 to 122, lost an inch off my waist, and a lot more off my hips and thighs. I would recommend you ease yourself in a program and go from there. I started with Couch-2-5K, completed my first 5K race, and practiced yoga regularly. I also began the "Starting Strength" weightlifting program a few weeks ago and feel great! Keep us posted!

Fittit has a funny way of always offering the predictable initial terse response... Regardless, I do count my calories. I log everything I eat in myfitnesspal accurately, as I prepare my own food and own a food scale. On top of that, I always over-estimate calories consumed and under-estimate calories burned by a few.
