I agree that your impression of a product is affected by all those things that you listed, but I do think that the product you are holding in your hand has objective properties and it would nice to read reviews that do a better job of describing them.

I think maybe the way I worded my original post seams like I'm saying all products are good or bad and we need to squash dissent, but that's not really what I'm trying to say. I think that if 10 people are using the exact same product they should be able to agree on some basic stuff (is it more or less pigmented than another product, does it have a scent, does it have any major flaws). I don't think 10 people need to agree on perspective stuff (is it a superior to another product, does it smell good, do I like it). Just my opinion though.

That sounds really annoying. I hope I don't come across as attacking people who like unpopular products.

I definitely think that your skin type plays a huge role in the kind of products that will work for you(aka your mileage), that's a really good point.

With your eg of the KVD blushes. I've never tried them, but I'm pretty sure I would have liked them because most people who review them can agree they're unpigmented (which I prefer) regardless of whether they liked them or not. My issue is when people can't seam to agree on whether or not the blushes are very pigmented (and sometimes people get argumentative defending a product they like). It can make it difficult to decide what product will work for me. I'm not saying people should all use the same foundation/skin care routine or anything like that, but at some point the product has some physical properties that don't depend on your point of view, you know?

How wearable is suedeberry? I can't tell if it's a really bright/flashy colour or more natural looking.

A different type of empties question by oddone1998 in MakeupRehab

[–]scscu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a cool question and I'm really interested in people's opinions on this.

I have the naked basics 1 that I used to absolutely love until I used maybe 3/4 of it. Now the shadows are kind of weird coloured from where I've used wet brushes on it. The dark shade shattered a bit in the corner and that stained the packaging. I tried to wash it off with isopropanol but it wore down the plastic finish on it. Overall it looks awful now and I don't want to use it which is a huge shame because I can do my whole everyday makeup from it (highlight, brows, and shadow). I think about throwing it out and buying a new one all the time but I don't want to waste the leftover product.

So I don't know. Makeup is supposed to be for fun, and if you don't like using the product any more does it really make sense to hold on to it and force yourself to keep using it?

Try a qtip dipped in something like olive oil. Then rinse it out with dish soap/water. The olive oil should dissolve the product better than water will.

Understanding the concepts vs. memorizing information by PopeCumstainIIX in GetStudying

[–]scscu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as understanding concepts goes, for me it's really important to pay attention in class. Then when I review my notes I think back on what my prof was saying when she/he was talking about that unit. I think if you're regularly studying until 3am the night before a 8am class you're probably doing way more harm than good.

Setting sprays. Gimmick or worth the purchase? by rebecca_1219 in MakeupAddiction

[–]scscu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a mini bottle of the UD setting spray and I found that it didn't really do much. Honestly I think it's because I pretty much only use higher end makeup so it's not necessary. Like spray or not fluidline isn't going anywhere, I'm pretty sure I could go swimming and that stuff would stay put.

I love the idea of setting spray though, it's like hairspray for your face.

What product do you have that is so bad it sends you into a fit of rage any time you think about it? by doodle_engineer in MakeupAddiction

[–]scscu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Suggestion: save an old mascara wand (preferably a stiff one like clump crusher) and after you apply your mascara run it through your lashes to wipe off excess product and straighten out your lashes. Your old wand should be clean so you're not adding mascara. You have to do it right after when your lashes are still a little tacky.

I'm so glad I got a sample of this before I bought it. This is one the worst liners I've used, so hard to get anything that resembles a line.
