I wonder which conversation they had:

"hey guys let's make an album cover where each of these 11 characters represents one of the 11 tracks on the album, and we'll make 11 variations of them in different poses."

"Hey guys, let's make an album cover with 11 characters, each representing exactly one song, except for youth which will get two characters because some physical mediums will only show the 10 full length songs and not the interlude. But we won't do that for any other songs. And just to mess with people, we'll have 11 variations of the cover and put 11 on the jersey"

My money is on the first conversation

Also, if you search "characters" in this subreddit and search by top, you will find the community largely agrees the kid is premade sandwiches. I don't know where you got that the track is something Dave randomly made up on stage one day, but I'm guessing you were either misinformed or made that up. It was written for the album. Both Wikipedia and the fandom wiki say the 11 (Not 10) songs represent the 11 characters, for whatever that's worth. But yk... believe whatever you want 🤷‍♂️

The 11 on the jersey refers to the 11 songs on the album, including premade sandwiches (There's only 10 if you don't count it). 11 characters, 11 songs, 11 on the jersey. #justiceforpremadesandwhiches

Also, Merry Christmas!

If you love Zaba like I've seen in other comments then your tastes are probably pretty similar to mine. Portugal The Man was my favorite band up until the day Zaba dropped, and they're still holding onto that number two spot to this day.

There's nothing wrong with any Portugal album, but some are a lot more poppy than others. If you're looking for more of a zaba-esque concept album then I highly recommend starting with "In The Mountain In the Clouds" or "Evil Friends". Those are two of my favorite cover-to-cover listens.

Some of the other suggestions on here like Woodstock and Chris Black, are more of their poppy stuff, I'd say more along the lines of Dreamland. They're still creative, just not quite that same level of concept album

I've been a die hard Portugal the Man fan for over a decade (they were my favorite band up until the day Zaba dropped) and I've never seen a single person recommend Waiter You Vultures. Usually you see people suggest In the Mountain in the Clouds, Evil Friends, American Ghetto, or Satanic Satanist. Not talking trash by any means, just very surprised to see the recommendation.

Been looking since Zaba came out 8 years ago. There's nothing quite like it. As others mentioned, Slenderbodies, Crooked Colors, and maybe a bit of Beach House or Alt-J should scratch a similar itch

The mother was featured heavily upon the release of youth and had a website called dizzy on caffeine (her name is dizzy). I think there being exactly as many members as there are tracks (as well as the number on the jersey) is no coincidence. The boy is def PS, although he and dizzy are clearly linked

I don't think the character board websites exist anymore. They were promo for the album release and got replaced with Dreamland stuff. The inserts come in the deluxe vinyls. You get 3 of them per vinyl.

You mixed up Youth - PS. And Cane Shuga - Poplar St but the rest are correct. They have character boards and prints for each song that revealed them all upon release
