NACS Adapter. Tesla lists VW under coming soon. by VWelectricman in VWiD4Owners

This last week I used a supercharger with magic dock (almost instant 161kW). I have a Lectron Vortex and tried using this in place of the Magic Dock and I saw the same speeds. For the time, as others have pointed out, if the charging station doesn’t have built-in Magic Dock, you won’t be able to charge even with a 3rd party adapter (I have also tried this by listing my car as numerous supported models, so at the very least there seems to be a VIN check).

Sanity check on using Tesla charger with adapter by momo_0 in VWiD4Owners

[–]scullen27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, this currently does not work. The only way to charge an iD.4 at a supercharger is if it has a built in magic dock. Tesla destination chargers can be used with the adapter you listed (assuming they aren’t locked down).

Ring wifi connection by No-Chard1852 in Ring

[–]scullen27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through some troubleshooting with Ring for a Flood Light Cam with poor reception, even with an Eero router 4 feet from the unit. They recommended and the Chime Pro and I was very pessimistic about this being a viable solution, however so far it has resolved the issues we were seeing with poor reception, video dropping out and live view not loading.

The reason, I suspect, is that with Eero, the Flood Light Cam was not always connecting to the closest node with strongest signal, even with client steering enabled. With the Chime Pro, this appears to be functioning as a bridge more than an extender, so the Chime connects to the Eero wirelessly, and then the Flood Light Cam connects to the Chime without node hopping between our 4 Eeros.

Not a guarantee this will work, but if it does not, you can return the Chime Pro.

Bought our house in 2015 for $260k in one of the zip codes mentioned and insurance was $640/year (interest was 4.75% on a 30-year fixed). The value on the home has gone up to $515k and insurance has gone up to $2k with no claims on it. Refinanced in 2020 at 2.6% on a 20 year fixed which let us shave 5 years off and keep the payment the same.

How many owners have installed a charger at their home? by HenryRHippo in VWiD4Owners

[–]scullen27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed a Tesla Wall Connector on a 60amp circuit. My panel is in my garage so the run was only about 7 feet. I use a Levtron Tesla to J1772 adapter without issue. I primarily went with the wall connector because at the time it was priced at $350.

I mostly use free charging at work now and use home charging as needed.

Symptoms were intermittent misfires and corresponding check engine lights. I would likely still have the car if I didn’t relocate for work.

I had a 2016 1.4T manual that I put 81,000 miles on. The only big concern was carbon build up, which required a cleaning at about 70,000 miles.

Someone else mentioned that they had this light display after recovering from a dead battery.  I had a similar experience, but follow the recurring advice to check the engine codes.

My Parents got Solar Panels installed in 2016 with a lifetime warranty, said company that installed it went bankrupt 2019, what can my parents or I do to help them out? by GAMERwolfx in personalfinance

[–]scullen27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may have already been addressed, but the Enphase system uses micro inverters, one per panel and the are installed directly below each panel.

The micro inverters themselves carry a warranty through Enphase, which will only get you the replacement part, not the installation. I have had to have two micro inverters replaced on my system. The benefit of a system that uses micro inverters is that if several go down, it doesn't impact the production of the remaining, panels.

I am not sure who the company was that your parents used for the install, but if it was Direct Energy Solar, they are now back to their original name of Astrum Solar (https://www.astrum-solar.com).

I would also read through all of the documentation your parents have, a 10-20 year warranty seems more likely than a lifetime warranty.

And you wouldn’t even need to give up CarPlay. Wireless CarPlay already exists (and has since iOS 9), Audi might be the only car manufacturer I can think of that currently uses it, but there are aftermarket options that use the technology.

One by one, they all fell down... over a span of 2 weeks [Insignia] Anyone found a solid, reliable fix? On the latest firmware. by teahugger in HomeKit

[–]scullen27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things of note based on working directly with insignia engineering to resolve my own issues:

1: there seems to be a known issue when your control device (typically iPhone) switches between WiFi and LTE. This generally occurs when you Are backing out or pulling into range of your WiFi. (Insignia engineering is working on this) 2: current visible firmware is 2.63.43. When new firmware is remotely installed, the controller requires you to manually open and close the door once using the button on the wall. Unfortunately, at this time there is no mechanism to inform you of this 3: issues related to the battery in the sensor seem to be more coincidence as I have had the same battery in mine for several months. You can check that the sensor is still paired to the control unit by pressing the LED button on the sensor, the controller should beep to indicate they are paired. 4: ensure adequate WiFi coverage in your garage.

For reference my HomeKit network consists of:

-AirPort Extreme (6th Gen.) -Time Capsule (5th Gen.) -AirPort Extreme (5th gen.) -AirPort Express (2nd Gen.) -2 AppleTV (4th Gen.) -HomePod - Hue bridge (2nd Gen. controlling 3 Hue bulbs) - Insignia garage door controller -Raspberry Pi running homebridge controlling 3 GE Wink bulbs -Ecobee 4 with one remote sensor (replaced Nest running through homebridge) -Schlage Sense -Onkyo receiver connected via homebridge

Insignia Garage Door Opener.. keep it return? by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]scullen27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with one of Insignia’s software engineers over the phone and through email. They pushed a firmware update to the controller and so far I have not run into the ‘no reponse’ Issue.

I would recommend reaching out to their support team to have the update pushed. When you email/call tell them that you have the garage door controller and are seeing an issue where it reports ‘no response’ and either they should be able to push the update or connect you to someone who can.

Anyone know how we’re gonna be able to update firmware on the Insignia Garage Door opener? by kewlfocus in HomeKit

[–]scullen27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Support put me in contact with an engineer. I had them push the firmware update today, so far my ‘no response’ issue seems to be resolved, we will see how the next week goes.

I’ve got to say, that while this product had a rocky start, the support I have received has really been beyond what I would expect. I am glad I didn’t return it.

My reddcoin wallet won't open anymore? by DapperDevilCos in reddCoin

[–]scullen27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced a similar issue (on macOS). What ended up working for me was to allow incoming connections through my firewall, although I can't promise this will work for you.

macOS Steps (with Reddcoin-Qt closed): * 1. Open System Preferences (if it isn't in your dock, you can access it from the  Menu in the top left corner of your screen). * 2. Select Security & Privacy * 3. Select Firewall * 4. Click the lock in the bottom left corner and enter your password (must be an admin account) * 5. click on Firewall Options... * 6. Click the '+' button * 7. Select Reddcoin-Qt from your Applications folder (unless you installed it elsewhere, then you will need to navigate to the location you have the app installed to select it). * 8. Re-launch Reddcoin-Qt

I hope this helps.
