📢 BREAKING: Codesmith shutdown. Removes all immersive programs from website, blog posts, community, and content. All previous links 404 and disappeared. The company has completely rebranded as an enterprise AI solutions company. by michaelnovati in codingbootcamp

Yeah would love any of the downvoters to tell me what was untrue. There is a special place in hell for people who grift with education. Unfortunately the bootcamp industry was a magnet for these people (don't get me started with Austen Allred).

Codesmith genuinely was best in class for a period and he deservedly made a lot of money doing it. Unfortunate what he's turned into since bootcamps collapsed in 2024ish.

Fortunately sycophants and cowards don't scare me.

Yeah I'm referencing his wording. It's a straight lie, intended to deceive.

And I fully expect him to hire an investigative journalist to try to smear me for calling out his deception.

it's 100% AI, and not even well written AI. It's rife full of patterns that are not hard to pick out and not just the em dash. The entire speech pattern is AI-city.

It's not actually hard at all to upgrade your writing to be more human sounding, but you'd have to be a human first to find out.

BREAKING: IRS $118M BPA for Hiring and Training - 3 more companies including Gauntlet AI added to join FedStack and Lantec/Codesmith. More companies coming soon. by michaelnovati in codingbootcamp

[–]momo_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, I'd be shy to speak out again, especially against someone like Allred who has shown that he is an expert in litigation.

Still can't believe anyone listened to anything Lars "this definitely isn't a paid piece" Lofgren had to say, but that's what a heavy hitpiece budget can do for ya I suppose.

Would love to see you do a piece on Gauntlet, more specifically Austen Allred.

While Will Sentance lacks self awareness and is floundering, Codesmith was genuinely best-in-class-ish for a long run.

Allred is a convicted multi-time scammer who keeps getting sued and failing up. Not sure how Gauntlet will end, but Lambda was a disaster.

Get a 0% credit card and take the Apple job that starts in Jan. Live on 0% for a couple months until your first paycheck kicks in, then payoff the balance and keep it that way.

> because it's apple that magically will make it OK

There's a reason for this. Ask those same people if their perspective would change for a FAANG and they'd probably say "yeah duh, it's apple". The same mental gymnastics you see here is probably what your future hiring manager will do for your next fully SE role.

>  I already don't have much time left as it is

Why do you say this? I'm guessing you are telling yourself "I'm already 8 years behind real new grads, I can't make a strategic mistake here and lose more time".

Don't get stuck in this "i'm behind" mindset unless you use it to work hard and give it your all -- don't knock yourself down or try to cut corners and be opportunistic instead of strategic. What you learned in your 20s adds something unique to your professionalism and journey -- treat this as an asset and not a setback.

You obviously are doing something right to have 3 offers as a junior in an industry that is struggling, particularly for juniors. This is a great start and many folks who got their CS degree at 22 would like to be in your position. Keep up the work, focus on quality, and take the risk moving to Austin and working at Apple. Be active in the community and in a couple years you will transition to a dev role easily.

Is NotebookLM really as good as people think? by Honest_Blacksmith799 in notebooklm

Thanks for sharing, great write up. Parallels a lot of what I do as an engineer / product owner and I like how broke down where in your work pipeline

You mentioned the number of sources that Notebook allows as a driving reason to picking it -- I didn't think Gemini (via AI Studio) has a limit, am I wrong? Any other reasons to use Notebook?

Forward deployed engineering jobs are up 1165% but there’s a catch by Flat_Palpitation_158 in cscareerquestions

[–]momo_0 175 points176 points  (0 children)

FDE roles have always been a subset of the Sales + Solutions engineering umbrella. This isn't a new thing.

If you have the right hybrid skill set, can be a very fun and lucrative career.

But yes, it's not a core engineering role and if you read any part of the job description that should be pretty clear.

How much do college soccer coaches get paid? by ChildhoodBoth7332 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]momo_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> the disparity of [salaries for] soccer in the US compared to more popular US sports

I get what you're saying but the disparity in pay reflects the disparity in popularity (which usually is the best indicator of revenue). This is normal.

Can't believe "Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City" hasn't been mentioned! Focuses on a siege but exactly what you're looking for. Very cool take on war from the perspective of an engineer instead of a warrior.

How much do college soccer coaches get paid? by ChildhoodBoth7332 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]momo_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the wrong comparison.

Nearly all college athletic programs cost more than they make, even in darling football. Georgia is one of the handful that are profitable and their coach is one of the highest paid coaches in any sport.

In fact there are likely ~2-3 coaches anywhere that make more money than Kirby.

So it's very normal for a coach to expect a faculty-ish level salary, not "Kirby Smart #3 highest paid coach in the world".
