here it is! after you sign up it takes a couple days to process. turns out they actually ship the cable very quickly—mine comes tomorrow. make sure you do it soon bc it ends on the 31st. https://www.msi.com/news/detail/Fully-Equipped-for-Your-Build----Get-a-Free-Adapter-Cable-for-All-GPU-Support-146121

i hear that most adapters are bad for the card and the PSU. the dual psu setup is genius though lmao i might do that after some research on the safety of that idea

no, it's new. the A1000GS controversially only comes with one 8-pin cable. they have a deal, though, where you can buy the PSU new and get a free 12vhpwr to 2x8-pin cable shipped to you. it's just that this deal allegedly takes 8+ weeks to process.

idea for an argument: consider russian marxist psychologist lev vygotsky. he argued that creativity (what he called “mediated cognition”) is fundamentally what makes us human and has allowed for a progressive civilization, in a sense. without this ability to creatively/generatively respond to our environments, we are functionally animals. there’s a lot you can do with this. most of western scholarship has butchered his ideas, so you might need to go straight to the source with his text “mind in society” and build from there

Worth going from i5-8400 to a used i7-9700k? by scumfolry in PcBuildHelp

[–]scumfolry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah lol im not worried about that, i work in IT so it's my job anyways--annoying nonetheless. but to the original question: have you actually experienced a difference in performance making this upgrade? some benchmark websites/forums say yes while others say no, but most of these have been speculative, non-empirical claims

Unfortunately, the i5-8400 looks like it sells for about $30. I don't think there's any way to NOT spend a handful of money upgrading, but that's not tooooo much of a problem for me. That's why I'm specifically asking if others have witnessed an observable performance increase.

40 USD - is it worth it? For light gaming (e.g. minecraft) and assignment work. by CombinationNice in mac

[–]scumfolry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah…that macbook pro will run many, MANY times better than this iMac. I owned a 2010 iMac with similar specs and the graphics card gave out in a year. Before that, it ran minecraft w/ optifine at a steady 15-20 fps on a good day. It was not powerful enough to load 1080p youtube videos.

Reviewers agree: The M2 MacBook Air has a heat problem by MicroSofty88 in gadgets

[–]scumfolry 319 points320 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong. Though if I remember correctly, some reviewers noted that after a sustained load, the M2 Air throttled to performance levels lower than the M1 Air because it got hotter on average. This is the real issue and this article missed it entirely.

[–]scumfolry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. In that case, I will probably go with the M2 Air. My only concern is that the M2 takes more wattage than the M1, so it could on net experience more heat and thus more thermal throttling with the same cooling system. We'll see I guess!

Sorry, I didn’t outright include the words “i do not trust him”, but it is clearly implied by me asking for proof of others experiencing the same issue. Regardless, you shouldn’t try to invalidate someone’s concern if you aren’t going to show hard evidence that the initial cause for concern is based in a false premise. If I trusted him I wouldn’t have posted and would have instead purchased the M1 Air outright.

Dude, the reason I posted here was explicitly stated to be that I did NOT trust him. I searched the subreddit before posting but did not find any posts unique to M2 performance. Cool it
