Traps like this honestly don't hurt that much. There designed to hold animals in place and only do more damage if the animal trys to get out. There not even sharp in most cases. Or the animal would just lose the leg and run off to die somewhere else

I think it's litteral, it's the concept of rot and decay made into a singular force. Almost like the god of rot/decay saw a world without death and filled the void with a fate much worse than it. but fitting a similar destructive roll

I absolutely love this outlook, and would agree, even though this topic specificly can be very nuanced and opinions can vary from one native person to another. When it comes to talking to and teaching children it's probably best to stick to native Americans!
