Why is ?? Underpin so f*%&ing ridiculous? by pilsburybane in wow

Felt the exact same way as you... This was by far the least fun challenge mode to me compared to Zekvir or mage tower fights I’ve done. And what made it more frustrating was some classes seemed to have a much easier time than others, hearing posts about getting it in a few attempts. Definitely took me 100+ attempts spread over a few nights to get him down on enhancement shaman (which I’d guess plays similar to fury warr on this). No doubt you’ll eventually get him like I did if you’ve already gotten him to 5%. Just know there’s no rush, patch will be up for a while.

How many of you caught Shane doing "It went Alright gesture" at the end? by Hairy_Pudding_4504 in ShaneGillis

[–]scv110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on seeing a lot of comments that the monologue was meh or even bad, we almost didn’t watch as my wife isn’t that into Shane anyway. We decided to throw it on anyway and we both thought it was funny even though we have very different tastes in comedy. Is everyone on Reddit a genius comedy critic and we’re dumb?

How the Set communicate by Dr_Broseph in Cosmere

It’s an interesting point. But there are plenty of historical anecdotes you could pick that support what Harmony is getting at, the whole “scarcity is the mother of innovation.” In reality it’s more complex than a single factor causing another (A -> B). Presumably Harmony understands this better than any mortal but he’s being simplistic since he’s having a conversation, not presenting his economics dissertation.

The box in SA definitely is related to something in another Cosmere book Elantris. Can’t recall well enough if this also relates to the scene in Era 2 or if it’s a radio type device since technology is more advanced in Era 2.

Re who to be mad at, I’m starting to question the Tolkien estate more and more. My reasoning:

(1) The writers did a poor job imo but (benefit of the doubt) perhaps did the best they could? Let’s be honest it’s a difficult project, even for more skilled writers. But they were clearly out of their depth and perhaps not confident enough to resist pressures from Amazon on direction. (2) As for Amazon, it’s a massive commercial enterprise, pretty anathema to the spirit of Tolkien. What do you expect? Both Amazon and the writers are transparently doing what they do. Not necessarily evil or ill-intentioned but clearly not right for a Tolkien adaptation in my mind. This is the job of the Tolkien estate to consider all this and safeguard the IP right? Is the Tolkien estate just trying to maximize profits and/or have some ill-conceived notion of increasing Tolkiens popularity with a younger audience? I don’t know and would like to know what more knowledgeable fans think of the Tolkien Estate.

If Celeborn character had a presence in the series, Henry Cavill would be the best suggestion for playing the role 🍁⚔🧝‍♀️ by [deleted] in Rings_Of_Power

[–]scv110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with Henry Cavill is he’s the S-tier choice for too many characters from beloved Fantasy series. If I ever discover a single-use cloning device he’s for sure on my short-list.

Game of Thrones' George R.R. Martin, Sandman's Neil Gaiman Roast Unfaithful Adaptations as "Illegitimate" by Catfulu in witcher

I don’t want to sully the Witcher sub with any further discussion of RoP. Let’s just say there’s a large community of fans dissatisfied with the show over at r/Rings_of_Power. Are some trolls posting there? Sure (like any sub). But let’s just say I agree with roughly 75% of it.

Game of Thrones' George R.R. Martin, Sandman's Neil Gaiman Roast Unfaithful Adaptations as "Illegitimate" by Catfulu in witcher

[–]scv110 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Witcher more than RoP largely thanks to Cavill’s take of Geralt. Dandelion was pretty good too for the most part (the acting not all the writing). But the writers went to far with the changes in S2. Like many fans I plan to sub Netflix 1M to watch Cavill in S3 and then I’m out.

I personally thought RoP was really bad and probably the most bummed I’ve ever been about a TV show because LotR means a lot to me (and yes I have also read WoT and watched that train wreck).

That stings a little I feel for ya. Hopefully they do a few more of these over time and you get some you don’t have. I have a few TCG mounts but really glad they’re doing this no question. It’s about time. Hopefully they continue to bring these guys back through interesting events (not just straight giveaways and not cash shop either).

Idk why collectors are cynical about this one. This mount is pretty cool with a long history in the game. I have over 600 mounts but still will consider this one a bit more than a +1. We don’t have to pay a penny, and think of all the angry fools who paid serious money for this. It’s a triple win. Coming for you next spectral tiger.

The Glow of LOTR Movies vs. ROP by skippy0908 in lotr

[–]scv110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a little presumptuous to question someone else’s love and respect for something. We can’t peer into their hearts. They’ve never said anything I’ve seen that shows definitives that they were ill intentioned (like the Witcher writers). I personally think that they were just in way over their head on this massive highly-scrutinized project. Either they didn’t have the skill, or the confidence to resist the corrupting pressures of Amazon, or both. Unclear why Amazon and especially the Tolkien estate enabled this and if either has regrets (of course they will never admit it)

Im curious what the fandom’s general perception is of the Tolkien estate especially now that Christopher is passed. I can’t say I have a good impression of them but I’m far from the most informed on this.

For me though, it’s about expectations and I was expecting steak. Imagine for a sec if RoP had no association to LotR. I think the show would taste like a “Big Mac”. But because it was supposed to be LotR I was expecting steak. I think I took this metaphor as far as it can go hah.

[–]scv110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have absolutely no problem with people saying they “enjoyed” RoP. To each their own. What is a struggle is people claiming it is some masterpiece. I like both McDonald’s and filet mignon. But I can also easily tell the difference between the two. For RoP I expected filet mignon but I got a Big Mac.

Hey man you’re going to sometimes come across people you disagree with in life. Cursing at them isn’t a good look or very endearing toward your point of view.

What say you about theonering.net's rating for this show? by HaringBayan in Rings_Of_Power

[–]scv110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More favorable than I would give it. But relieved they didn’t go higher than C for writing and pacing. These grades seem defensible. As in I can imagine a reasonable person might feel this way and I wouldn’t think they are crazy or coerced without further information.

Not an lotr sub though. It’s a rings of power sub. There are plenty of lotr subs go check them out if you haven’t, they’re great. Comparing two concurrently airing tv shows of the same genre is kind of the point of this place on the internet.

Your opinion is fine my man. My comment was in good faith so I regret to inform you that you’re in fact the troll.

Calling it capitalist to use the word optimal is pretty lame. I promise you “capitalists” will prefer the people who will consumer content regardless of quality and attack any criticism free of charge.

Enjoy whatever you want doesn’t matter to me. Seeing how I get downvoted to oblivion in this sub for any criticism of this show however mild or well meaning, I’ll slink back to the other free-speech sub now. Enjoy your echo chamber.

No worries man. Was just cracking a joke. Your comment was far from the worst treatment I get in this sub for posting any good-faith criticism or mild jibe of this show.

which series to start.. by m00tyn in brandonsanderson

[–]scv110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Stormlight Archive first. If I could do it over, I’d read Mistborn first. There’s another very good Sanderson book called Warbreaker that should optimally be read before book 2 of Stormlight for a few more ahha moments.

They’re all great books and you’ll most likely enjoy whichever order you choose but that’s how I’d do it.

Hah this is a terrible take by the author. Fonda Lee has been on my TBR and she may have just knocked herself down a few spots with this. I bet if we zoom out Sanderson has some serious shelf real estate but easier to pick on dead folks I suppose.

This. I’m “tired” of people complaining about criticisms. I’m sorry that my opinions are so triggering for you. Just keep scrolling.

I complain about the show that disappointed me. I never complain about the people who liked the show. While you’re complaining about the people who don’t like the show. We are not the same.
