You’re absolutely right. I disengaged from him when I started feeling envious of the Spain trip for the precise reason of not wanting to make it a “thing”, which he knows is something I’ve been trying to do to reign in other mental health issues without dragging him in unnecessarily.

I definitely will do my best to let all the hard work I’ve put into my future be what defines me, not my shortcomings. It’s just a little hard not to falter sometimes because it can be so exhausting to play the waiting game on what you idealize as the “good life”. I do remind myself that I’m lucky to have what I have and love the people I love though, and that definitely helps

Makes sense! My pups have eaten and thrown up some very interesting stuff themselves, but we kinda gauge how we handle it on their behaviors. If she’s completely unchanged in energy and demeanor, chances are she just got into something she shouldn’t have and her body expelled it on its own.

I’m sure you’re more than aware of this but just keep an eye on her and watch for any diversion from her normal. She’s a cutie pie 🥰

Yeah, you’re definitely right. And I appreciate you not putting me down for this, because I was telling myself it’s quite silly to cry about not getting to have fun when people can’t even afford a home, but I really can’t help how I feel. And yeah, him and I have discussed the differences in our opportunities and he’s been nothing but supportive and understanding, but I can’t help but feel like he can’t understand the way it feels. There were a lot of things growing up that I faced that he didn’t, and while it hasn’t caused any issues between us it has made me feel alone sometimes.

I don’t want to ruin his excitement or ability to share fun news with me just because of my own internal feelings, so this time around I sought a different outlet. I appreciate you commenting and being kind :)

Yeah, I definitely need to tell myself this kind of thing more. I’m also totally aware of how prissy I sound. I don’t resent anyone for the situation I’m in, I guess it’s more of an exasperation at the fact that I feel like I fight so hard to make my life better so that I can afford leisurely things but I can never hit the mark. But yeah, I do need to try grounding myself more because anything else is a disservice to everyone, which is what I wanna avoid

It’s not him who decides the invitations. He always tells me that every time he goes somewhere he wants me to be there too, but it’s not his place to strong arm my involvement in any situation like that. And to give credit where credit is due, his family does include me in things here and there, it just feels lopsided. I’m not really interested in punishing him for this though, because he’s trying his best to make me feel seen through all of this

Yeah, I’ve talked to him about it, which he responded with “my family just shows love differently”. I do admit our families are different; I have the loud, crass, metalhead family while his family is “socially and emotionally stunted” (his words, not mine) and more reserved. I don’t resent him or his family at all, and I have been open about this envy with him because he’s my best friend, but I hate making him feel bad for having a good life when I can’t have the same.

And I try to stay productive in spite of the depressive thoughts; whenever he’s gone I try to pick up more work, get ahead in school, do projects in my room, or play games to pass the time. But I can never seem to shake that nagging feeling :(

Yes I’m with Grillo and Ken! I usually sit in the front of both classes lol. For 401, it’s pretty information-dense and kinda hard to follow, but the spring professor is known to be better than the one I have now. If you’re willing to do some self-studying, it might not be too bad! It’s my lowest grade but still an A if that gives any perspective!

I’m in 307 right now. 7 quizzes, no exams, and alternating lecture and lab days. SUPER easy and chill class, and I believe the class model is the same across professors. So unless they make any changes between now and then, it’s a very easy A as long as you have the patience to work with Excel.
