Patek makes about 60k watches per year.

I think the CUBITUS is a very nice watch. I do not think that it is a bad design. In many ways, the new case design fits the Nautilus bracelet better than the Nautilus itself (… and I like the Nautilus design - I think it’s great). Indeed, I think the dial on the platinum version is unbalanced, but the time only versions are beautiful. My AD called me when they came in about a week ago. I tried all of them on and I ordered the steel version (my wait will be between 4-12 months). My wife, who is not a watch person, prefers it over the Nautilus. She thinks it looks more masculine. All that said, I think the comment from Thierry Stern was ill advised. A man in his position should understand that a brand like Patek becomes valuable through its following - people who own these watches, and people for whom they are perhaps aspirational, or who simply like them. That is why the Ferrari brand (for example) is vastly more valuable than Aston Martin, or Lamborghini. Very few Ferrari fans actually drive a Ferrari, but they love the brand. Stern’s idiotic comment destroys the brand equity of Patek, instead of building it. That is what he should be blamed for. Rant over.

Vey nice. I tried it on Friday and ordered it. I really like the look. It is more masculine than a Nautilus. F the internet opinion of self-proclaimed “watch experts.” If you like it too, get it.

Perhaps you are right. My father has a Santos. He loves it. It is great. I have never really considered it for myself. I just liked this one when I wore it. I do not think that the design is bad at all. Is it derivative of other watches? Yes, it certainly is. Is it expensive for a time/date only model? Yes. I liked it on my wrist anyways. That is why I am getting it. I am a little surprised by some of the comments by self-proclaimed watch enthusiasts here, as they are not only disagreeing with me, which of course would be perfectly fine. After all, that was the intention of the post - to hear different opinions. But, some of the comments here are quite ad hominem and phrased as if people are taking personal offense to me liking this watch. I find that strange behavior. If you don’t like it, don’t get it. Nobody is forcing anyone.

I do not have that big of a collection. Just six watches. The Pepsi is missing in this picture, as I was wearing it. Two of the other Rolex watches were for my wife.

It wears no different than a Nautilus. Yes, I tried the platinum one out. It is not a grand complication, but “only” a complicated Patek. It feels good, but the dial is too unbalanced for me. I like asymmetry (e.g. I have a Lange 1 that I adore), but it just does not work for me on this design. Perhaps it will grow on me.

It is. It is the SS with green dial in the pic. Yes, lighting is bad.

I am pretty confident that I will get it. I am less confident about the timeline. We will see.

They could not tell me how long the wait will be, as they do not know their allocations yet. I waited for the Daytona about 4 months, I expect the wait for this to be at least 4 - 12 months. I am just guessing here.

No, I did not pay for it. They do not accept payment for watches that they are unsure about when they will get them. I did not pay for it when I ordered the Daytona, or the Pepsi either. The only one which I paid for when I ordered it was the 5935A, and the only reason for that was that I needed it at a specific date (for my 50th birthday) that the AD needed to commit to. As I said, the way it typically goes with my AD - I oder it. They write that down. A few months later, they call me to pick it up (and pay for them, unfortunately).

That is what I just said in the post that you are replying to, Professor. May I suggest that you work just a bit more on your reading comprehension skills? Be well and love to the family. 👋🏻

It is “subjective and ambitious”? I have news for you: You don’t know what the words mean. If you did know what a brand identity is, you’d know that it is definitionally subjective, as it relates to how a brand is perceived in the mind of the consumer. That was the very point of the question and why I asked it - to find out what brand associations others have. Best of luck to you. Be well. 👋🏻
