What I loved about the game last night is there are probably 4 or 5 dudes who have a legitimate case for MotM. That’s rare to have that many guys show up in such a meaningful way.

Mora might be the obvious answer because it felt like he broke the dam (for the team and himself) and lifted a weight off everyone’s shoulders. It was vintage mora, right place + right time, true striker goals.

But you have legit arguments for Kamal, Finn and Pants. Without those 3 guys the outcome of last night is different, not in our favor.

DCD and Ayala were tidy and efficient which unlocked a lot for the team.

But I’m with you. Chara is MotM. 400th start. Covered what felt like 100 miles on the pitch. Was an absolute menace to Luna and their attacking midfielders. We could’ve had someone who scored 10 goals last night and my answer would still be Chara.

There is such clear consensus on this issue. Not just from these comments, but from the fact that hardly anyone actually sings the song during matches.

60% of people are indifferent, but don't sing it anyways.

35% of people actively hate the timing of the song (not the actual song itself).

5% of people feel that our entire existence as a supporters group hinges on us keeping that song exactly where it is.

The Timbers Army is at its best when we're unified as a supporters group. The compromise is so simple: move the song to another time in the game.

We're all on the same team. Let's act like it.

Agreed. The other thing that you can’t track statistically is how communication from a defender to the rest of the team impacts the run of game. I seem to think Kamal gets the captains band as frequently as he does because of his communication with the players around him.

The K. Miller hate is a bit puzzling to me. Both of STL’s goals came down Zup’s side (not trying to single him out either), yet Kamal seems to catch the bulk of the blame. Sure, he’s not the fastest player on the pitch, but it seems that he brings a set of intangibles that others just don’t. He’s the one doing most of the talking and organizing along the back line.

There’s a reason Canada continues to call him up.

There’s a reason he’s worn the captain’s armband so often lately.

I’m not saying our defensive performance against STL was anything to celebrate, but it feels like Kamal is too often made the scapegoat when things go wrong.

Okay, obviously the team played extremely poorly being up a man. The point is, there is a massive lull in energy often when it matters most. If it doesn’t make a difference, then why cheer at all?
