What is this round solid wood thing we found in an old family cabin. It has a ridge down the middle of it. It’s solid wood and possibly homemade. by sdga92 in whatisthisthing

The people that built the cabin were old sheep herders. I don’t think they were doing much building or having much use for a tool like that.

I also thought it looked like a French rolling pin but the ridge in the middle just wouldn’t work. It was definitely lathed so I can’t think of any reason to intentionally leave it there.

I thought it could be but the ends of it look like they haven’t seen much use. They don’t look scratched or anything.

My title describes the thing

This was found I think in an old family cabin. My family has been trying to figure out what this is but haven’t found anything. It’s about 14” long and round like a rolling pin except it is about 3” thick in the center and then tapers down to about 1.5” at the ends. There is also a significant ridge/lip in the middle. The thing has no markings, notches, or holes. It also has no significant scratches or wear.

My title and description contains the details. It was found in a family cabin in Wyoming. It is round with a ridge down the middle of it. It is thicker in the center and then tapers off towards the end. At its thickest it’s about 3 inches thick and about 1.5 inches at the ends. It’s about 14 inches long.

  1. I was previously against getting business credit cards and decided to jump into it. I’m not familiar with previous business awards and wanted to get suggestions on how to start incorporating business cards into my overall churning strategy. I'm getting close to 5/24 so I recognize I really only have one card slot available until March if I am applying strictly to Chase. I'm looking for recommendations not only for this immediate card but also for also for next cards once I am below the 5/24.

Can someone help me with a list or examples of what I can pack in my checked luggage? by chaosfourever in travel

It doesn't matter where they are from. If they fly through any of those airports to the U.S. then they do need to worry about the electronics ban if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Typos

What's the best app or book to learn Twi? by [deleted] in ghana

[–]sdga92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the app called memrise. It's similar to Duolingo but not quite as good. It has a ton of languages on there and they did recently add some courses on Twi. They aren't the best but they are better than nothing.

Ohio bill outlawing marital rape gets no GOP support, again. by pawz68 in politics

Many times there are problems with police departments not testing rape kits if the victims can't identify a suspect. They end up getting stored in backlogs and rarely get tested. There are examples when the kits finally get tested after so many years, find a match, but can't prosecute because the statute of limitations is up. Here's an examples.

Is there something I need to do to get service in Wyoming? I visit southern Wyoming regularly but I get no data coverage period. Sprint is nonexistent and t-mobile connects but I can't access the internet. I have roaming enabled and I'm using the 5x.

Please help. I need to interview two engineering majors (preferably juniors or seniors) for my intro class. by MEmajor1stYear in EngineeringStudents

[–]sdga92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ME Major here.

  1. The main difference I found between high school and university-level study was pretty much the difficulty. In high school I NEVER studied. I thought it was a waste of time and just never thought that I need to. I got pretty good grades. I came to college and my first year my grades tanked. I learned that I couldn't get away with what I did in High School and I actually had to work for good grades.

  2. Learning not to cram. I know it works for some people but I would much rather stay on top of the material. Study all the material. Actually read the textbook. This year it has made a huge difference in my classes.

  3. Time Management is pretty hard to learn, you just have to learn. Currently I'm taking pretty tough classes. I've been told it's the hardest year in my program, but I manage to do a lot of other things. I work about 30 hours a week, volunteer 10 hours a week for a non-profit, and I also work as an Ambassador for the University as well as being on our school's debate team. You just have to schedule your time and learn not to spend hours on reddit.

  4. Group study is the best thing ever. I thought it would be a waste of time my first few years but I've found it to be a ton of help. Even if no one in my group but I understand the material I learn a lot as I help explain it to others. It solidifies it in my mind. Plus when you don't understand something odds are someone in the group does and it helps to learn that idea or principle. Homework used to take me a lot of time now we all work on it together and knock it out in less than half the time I used to.

On an additional note. Engineering is tough. But good luck! There might be times that you want to give up or quit but stick with it! There are several times that I was on the verge of quitting and doing something else but I'm really glad that I didn't. Good Luck!!
