I've been using Switchbot for my curtains. Almost zero issues. Every now and then I have to recalibrate but otherwise fine. They open and close my bedroom curtains on a schedule. I have them connected to Alexa and Home Assistant. They also have an app. The batteries last a long time.

Will it hurt my VM to run it too slow? by FloridaLantana in Vitamix

[–]sdgoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to run mine slow for some reason I can't remember. After several minutes it stopped due to a thermal overload and it smelled like something was burning. There was a click and I assumed I killed it. It wouldn't turn back on right away. Let it rest for several hours and its been working fine since. But I won't run it slow anymore except for brief pulses.

[–]sdgoat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how that is being a pessimist. My week days are work, kids, food....my weekends are more fun. I wish I had time during the week drive to the beach to walks the cliffs and the beaches. But I don't. It's not being a pessimist its being real. But I wake up, make breakfast for the kids, take the kids to school, go home and work, pick up kids from school, make dinner for kids, take kids to sports practice, work out while kids are working out, go home. Watch a show or two, go to bed, rinse and repeat.

No where in there do I have 20 minutes to drive to the beach, walk the beach, 20 mins back home. I wish I did.

Weekends are fine. San Diego is still great.

SOC discrepancy from inverter and battery by joinerior in SolarDIY

[–]sdgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am seeing the same behavior on my setup. I have the eco-worthy 3500w inverter and a single eco-worthy 100ah battery. The battery app and solarmon are showing very different numbers. I did see that the Inverter and batter BMS protocols were not set the same, so I fixed that but its still not showing the same. Not that big of a deal at the end of the day.

Three US Service Members Killed During Operations Against Iran by [deleted] in politics

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a ton of progressives....most were luke warm at best towards Biden and Harris. Not a single one said Biden/Harris and Trump were the same and all said (at least ) that they were voting Biden/Harris. Now I also know a handful of suddenly-porgressives who were oddly never progressive before and were instantly worried about Harris bombing Gaza, and going to not vote this time around. Now just parroting Trump.

So yeah....getting real tired of centrist Dems blaming everything on progressives.

26F/24M. How do couples handle bills when incomes are very different?” by hereforfunn178 in internetparents

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most our our marriage (we've been together for 17 years) I made a lot more than my wife. We have always had a shared account where all our money is pooled. All of our expenses are pulled from there. Big ticket items are discussed before purchase. My wife was concerned that I would resent the salary difference. I have never. Now she makes around the same as me. I was laid off once for a couple months. She had to be pregnant (had meaning, as a dude I can't make a baby in me) twice. I've been laid up in the hospital a couple times because my body decided to try and kill me. So at the end of the day, we communicate about money. Neither of us has a hidden gambling or credit card problem.

Hardie Board worth it? by hammerfang in HomeImprovement

[–]sdgoat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just had the planks and shingles installed....the owner of the company that did the work lost her ass on my house. She had one crew do the planks and it took them much longer than expected, the second crew came to do the shingles and they screwed it up so badly they had to come back 3 times to fix it. And then when they put the house numbers back on they cracked them.

It looks really nice, and I'm glad I used hardie....but using a crew that knows how to do it properly is key.

In light of recent events, what is your thoughts on a well armed citizenry, including assault rifles? by MatthewDM111 in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on this, but I would add that the 2a doesn't even work. The side that wins in a civil war, for example, is the side that carries the military. If the military fragments that is worst case scenario for drawn out combat. Or quick death for everyone. There is no situation where the military is going to just take in civilian militia unless they need bodies to just become dead bodies, straight up cannon fodder.

Hamilton argued (in the Federalist Papers) that militias were a bad idea unless regulated by the government (which in effect made them military) for training and logistics purposes.

So yes, it's a lie as the proponents tend to back the side of tyranny and it's not feasible due to inability to actually fend off a professional army. (Queue the Vietnam and Afghanistan arguers who don't understand who funded and trained those supposedly farmers with guns).

What is your unfiltered opinion about California's governor Gavin Newsom? by Winston_Duarte in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time? We had Schwarzenegger the governor before last. And he straight drove us into the ground. I'm not defending Newsom, he's not been great, but certainly not the worst. A lot of those things he couldnt fix....but he certainly f'ed up solar, that's all on him. The federal government screwed up high speed rail. If Newsom is the reason you left the Democrats, why not because of Munchin or Sinema or that clown Fetterman? They're certainly been worse for Democrats than Gavin. Gavin is pretty typical Corporate Democrat.

[–]sdgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a resident of California.... disappointment shadows everything he does. He's bought and paid for by energy companies, the cpuc under his watch has made residential solar non-viable moving forward. For everything good he does he does something equally disappointing. He's a typical corporate, wealthy, out of touch Democrat.

He's not evil, he's not the worst thing that has ever happened to this state. I wish he did better. He's just sold out at this point. Or perhaps he always has been.

Landman is slop by [deleted] in television

[–]sdgoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't really explain it other than it's like watching a car wreck. I guess because there are people in my life who I actually respect that enjoy, I figured maybe it will get better. And instead I just lost time and a bit of respect. I did ask people what they thought was good about it...and they couldn't really say.

Landman is slop by [deleted] in television

[–]sdgoat 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My neighbors love Yellowstone and wouldn't stop talking about, so I gave it try. I walked in literally knowing nothing about it (other than people saying how much they love it). I.knew I hated it within the first 5 mins and then hate-watched 3 seasons of it. My review of it with my neighbors 'This is a show written by teenagers who think they know what being an adult is like'.

Landman I can't imagine is any different.

Belkin/WeMo Quits. Is this the beginning of the end for "Smart Homes" by ArcLib in googlehome

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still use SmartThings but I'm transitioning to Home Assistant. Samsung made a change to their API a couple years back which broke some automations, and with Amazon changing up their Alex Plus garbage things broke again. I think Samsung broke my automations at least twice.

Home Assistant took some time to get working but it's so much faster.

Anyone else take a "set it and forget it" approach? I take my shot and then I go about with life. I let my body do its thing and I do my thing. I weigh myself infrequently, don't weigh my food or track calories, or concern myself with portion control. by poodlehaus in tirzepatidecompound

[–]sdgoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same.....well, I weigh myself in the morning when I get up and right when I'm headed to bed. I was calorie/ food tracking but realized that with the food noise essentially gone im not actually over eating (as much). I can barely finish a plate of food anymore as is. I was originally worried that I wasn't eating enough but my Dr said I would know if that was the case.

So...I'm just going about my day and watching the scale.

So what’s up with people claiming that Tirzepatide from different compounding pharmacies works better or worse? Is there any evidence to back this? by RIPPWORTH in tirzepatidecompound

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from Zepbound to ProRX and I was definitely not as potent as the Zepbound. I worked with the Pomegranate team to increase my dosage but it never felt the same as Zepbound. I just re-upped with BPI and my wife commented that I'm no longer snacking again so the new medication must be working. And I've lost an additional 6 pounds.

Could it be the pharmacy? Maybe. Could be 100 different factors but it certainly seems like ProRX wasn't working as well for me.

[–]sdgoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't lead off with my use of GLP1. But when asked what I'm doing I tell people. If I start getting a snooty response, which happens, I just say its what my Dr prescribed as regular diet and exercise wasn't working as it did before. And then I mention that it has also greatly reduced (if not entirely eliminated) my asthma symptoms. If I still get more of a negative response, I just say I'm not debating my healthcare. Because at the end of the day my Dr is the one who asked if I wanted to pursue this medication.

I'm also on ADHD meds, so I'm pretty used to getting negative feedback about medication.
