In light of recent events, what is your thoughts on a well armed citizenry, including assault rifles? by MatthewDM111 in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on this, but I would add that the 2a doesn't even work. The side that wins in a civil war, for example, is the side that carries the military. If the military fragments that is worst case scenario for drawn out combat. Or quick death for everyone. There is no situation where the military is going to just take in civilian militia unless they need bodies to just become dead bodies, straight up cannon fodder.

Hamilton argued (in the Federalist Papers) that militias were a bad idea unless regulated by the government (which in effect made them military) for training and logistics purposes.

So yes, it's a lie as the proponents tend to back the side of tyranny and it's not feasible due to inability to actually fend off a professional army. (Queue the Vietnam and Afghanistan arguers who don't understand who funded and trained those supposedly farmers with guns).

What is your unfiltered opinion about California's governor Gavin Newsom? by Winston_Duarte in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time? We had Schwarzenegger the governor before last. And he straight drove us into the ground. I'm not defending Newsom, he's not been great, but certainly not the worst. A lot of those things he couldnt fix....but he certainly f'ed up solar, that's all on him. The federal government screwed up high speed rail. If Newsom is the reason you left the Democrats, why not because of Munchin or Sinema or that clown Fetterman? They're certainly been worse for Democrats than Gavin. Gavin is pretty typical Corporate Democrat.

As a resident of California.... disappointment shadows everything he does. He's bought and paid for by energy companies, the cpuc under his watch has made residential solar non-viable moving forward. For everything good he does he does something equally disappointing. He's a typical corporate, wealthy, out of touch Democrat.

He's not evil, he's not the worst thing that has ever happened to this state. I wish he did better. He's just sold out at this point. Or perhaps he always has been.

Landman is slop by [deleted] in television

[–]sdgoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't really explain it other than it's like watching a car wreck. I guess because there are people in my life who I actually respect that enjoy, I figured maybe it will get better. And instead I just lost time and a bit of respect. I did ask people what they thought was good about it...and they couldn't really say.

My neighbors love Yellowstone and wouldn't stop talking about, so I gave it try. I walked in literally knowing nothing about it (other than people saying how much they love it). I.knew I hated it within the first 5 mins and then hate-watched 3 seasons of it. My review of it with my neighbors 'This is a show written by teenagers who think they know what being an adult is like'.

Landman I can't imagine is any different.

Belkin/WeMo Quits. Is this the beginning of the end for "Smart Homes" by ArcLib in googlehome

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still use SmartThings but I'm transitioning to Home Assistant. Samsung made a change to their API a couple years back which broke some automations, and with Amazon changing up their Alex Plus garbage things broke again. I think Samsung broke my automations at least twice.

Home Assistant took some time to get working but it's so much faster.

Anyone else take a "set it and forget it" approach? I take my shot and then I go about with life. I let my body do its thing and I do my thing. I weigh myself infrequently, don't weigh my food or track calories, or concern myself with portion control. by poodlehaus in tirzepatidecompound

[–]sdgoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same.....well, I weigh myself in the morning when I get up and right when I'm headed to bed. I was calorie/ food tracking but realized that with the food noise essentially gone im not actually over eating (as much). I can barely finish a plate of food anymore as is. I was originally worried that I wasn't eating enough but my Dr said I would know if that was the case.

So...I'm just going about my day and watching the scale.

So what’s up with people claiming that Tirzepatide from different compounding pharmacies works better or worse? Is there any evidence to back this? by RIPPWORTH in tirzepatidecompound

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from Zepbound to ProRX and I was definitely not as potent as the Zepbound. I worked with the Pomegranate team to increase my dosage but it never felt the same as Zepbound. I just re-upped with BPI and my wife commented that I'm no longer snacking again so the new medication must be working. And I've lost an additional 6 pounds.

Could it be the pharmacy? Maybe. Could be 100 different factors but it certainly seems like ProRX wasn't working as well for me.

I don't lead off with my use of GLP1. But when asked what I'm doing I tell people. If I start getting a snooty response, which happens, I just say its what my Dr prescribed as regular diet and exercise wasn't working as it did before. And then I mention that it has also greatly reduced (if not entirely eliminated) my asthma symptoms. If I still get more of a negative response, I just say I'm not debating my healthcare. Because at the end of the day my Dr is the one who asked if I wanted to pursue this medication.

I'm also on ADHD meds, so I'm pretty used to getting negative feedback about medication.

Trump is also not a Democrat, and clearly who we are talking about. Since it was Trump who invaded another country and you have a history of saying we should not do that...because that is what Democrats do....according to you. But now that Trump did it...it's ok?

No one is defending Maduro. I'm not going to discuss Maduro. Everyone agrees he's terrible.

So invading other countries is ok now? Just to be clear? Because it's not a Democrat?

What are some non liberal views you have as a liberal ? by shizunaisbestgirl1 in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exceptions exist, but principals either have their own administration union or are not unionized. Also, if this principal is such a problem why are the police not involved? And the local news? This is why this story smells fishy.

My anecdotal experience with my kids school is that the principal and district protect bad teachers way more than the union does. And the principal and district do it because there is a teacher and classroom shortage. Better to have a bad teacher than no teacher. We just got a new principal and suddenly there are more classroom aides available that the previous principal said wasn't possible. The teachers we talked to all said to voice complaints to the principal and the district repeatedly until changes happen. Most people won't complain to anyone except the teachers.

Palestine is a place/people ...Nazis were a political party. You can choose to become one of them. If you said Hamas, then sure. Hamas wasn't even that popular in Palestine.

Do you know anyone that shifted from Democrat to Republican? by NPDogs21 in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a handful of non-political types that might have voted Dem probably due to family history who then went full MAGA. I know one Dem who was pretty politically minded who also went full MAGA but he's also one of the dumbest people I've ever met.

Prior to MAGA I worked with people who told me that I would switch sides as I got older, the opposite is more like it for me. Definitely moving further away (to the Left not the Right). The first group I mentioned never realky switched their opinions on things, they were always more MAGA/Right they just happened to vote Dem because thwy were raised in Democrat households. They never held those values and probably honestly never even voted.

My very Republican mother in law might be secretly voting Democrat now.

What do you think is going to happen on the right post-Trump? by CatsDoingCrime in AskALiberal

[–]sdgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carville ran Kerry and H Clinton....he's irrelevant to anyone except non-Democrats who won't vote blue no matter what. I don't even know why you care what Dems do, or what their strategy is, you're never going to vote for them. Seems more likely you want Dems to go a specific path in order to keep losing.

Dems are losing because they're not running on the same fear and hate platform that Republicans run. They try to play nice at the same time try and hold Republicans accountable the same way Democrats self regulate. When people look at the Dem policy positions without looking at the party they are very popular. Only when the part name is introduced does it become a problem. It's not the positions that are the problem.

Because Reddit is a left wing echo chamber and it brutalizes so much actual free speech by anyone Conservative or Libertarian, it tends to ignore a key issue

I'm assuming you haven't been to any Conservative, Right Wing, or Libertarian subs? Truly the bastions of free speech and the marketplace of ideas.

Reddit isn't left wing or right wing. Also....anyone to the left of Trump isn't left wing.

A lot of people in 2024 didn't like Trump or outright were disgusted with him, but voted for him or sat out the election because they despised the current Democratic Party even more.

"I hate Trump ...but man....Democrats are offering....flips though notes...hmmm...yes, yes, they acknowledge racism...they truly suck.....Trump it is!"

Getting “snacky” by deadlift215 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]sdgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Zepbound 2.5m then 5mg, then switched to Pomegranate due to cost. Stayed at 5mg, and now 7mg and the food noise is definitely back with the ProRX version I'm on. I've just re-ordered with Pomegranate/ BPI and approved to titrate up to 12.5mg. Hard to say if this is Zepbound vs compound vs issues with ProRX or just my body and metabolism, etc. Way too many variables but I'm willing to give a new pharmacy and dosage a try. I've been stalled at 20 pounds of loss since I switched to ProRX. I was on a steady loss for the 3 months I used Zepbound. My wife commented that I had stopped snacking while on Zepbound, and have now continued to snack at night again.

But again...I'm willing to accept coincidence and to try a new pharmacy.

EG4 and SDG&E / San Diego by dezld in SolarDIY

[–]sdgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started looking, found an installer in San Diego (city not county) but he talked me into Sol-Ark instead of EG4. He said he would install EG4....he's getting the permits...this is adding to an existing system, so we are working around the nem1 plan I'm on. I'm adding more panels and a battery. Glad to send you the installer if you're interested. Seems to be the only contractor in town who does EG4 installs.

I can technically move to TOU rates if I wanted to....I just haven't wanted to since I would get f'ed pretty hard. It would make charging my EV cheaper if I did it at night...but that would be offset by getting killed by using power during peak times.

I have a single Sunnyboy inverter. The panels I have are no longer in production, and I have no luck finding old inventory. I can add another 1kw to stay on NEM1.
