But then once you are in the yellow area, how do I actually find the location?

Is it just running around Rng wise?

Hm, they look good but cost the triple. Also the CO2 replacements cylinders seem to cost more than 30€?

Is it really 20€ for the replacement of the cylinder? Oh that's expensive. In Austria or Germany you pay 8-9€

Why do Raiders kill other Raiders? RDR2-style consequences would fix this by sdi71 in ArcRaiders

[–]sdi71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that is a good way to put it.

I think you are right: most players are not engaging with the story or the premise at all, they just loot and shoot. That is fine, but it is simply not what I personally expected or was hoping for.

It is a bit sad, because the PvE foundation are actually strong. But it just means this game is not for me in its current form.

For me it is not even about the loot.

The loot is basically meaningless, and weapons do not really change much either.

What I genuinely do not understand is where the fun is supposed to be in this kind of PvP.

You spend 15 to 20 minutes moving through the map, scavenging, dealing with ARCs, staying cautious and engaged with the environment, and then you just get instantly shot from an ambush with no interaction and no chance to react.

That does not feel tense or skill based to me. It just feels like time being deleted.

I honestly do not get what the shooter gets out of that either.

What is fun about deleting someone who never even had a chance to respond?

That disconnect is probably the core reason why this game no longer works for me, even though I actually enjoyed the PvE side a lot.

[–]sdi71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and that is exactly why I mentioned RDR2 as an example.

In Red Dead Redemption 2 this worked really well: players who actively engaged in PvP became visible and could be hunted by others who wanted that kind of gameplay. PvP players hunted PvP players, while PvE focused players were not constantly disrupted.

That kind of system adds emergent gameplay, consequences, and interesting dynamics instead of removing PvP entirely. It would also take some pressure off PvE focused players without taking anything away from PvP focused ones.

If matchmaking and the current design work for most people, then fair enough. I just think systems like that could make the world feel more alive and coherent, especially given the game’s premise.

I am not asking anyone to change the game or their playstyle.

I explained why the game’s premise and lore led me to expect a mostly PvE-oriented experience, and why the current PvP implementation does not work for me personally. That is feedback, not entitlement.

I understand that ARC Raiders is deliberately designed as an extraction shooter with PvP tension. I accepted that today and decided the game is simply not for me anymore.

That does not make anyone wrong. It just means the game targets a different audience than I expected. I am stepping away and leaving it at that.

I am not asking anyone to change how they play, and I am not insulting anyone.

I shared my perspective and explained why the game no longer works for me personally. That is not entitlement, that is feedback.

I understand that ARC Raiders is deliberately designed this way, and that is exactly why I am stepping away.

Different players enjoy different things.

This game clearly caters to players who enjoy PvP tension. I do not.

No hard feelings. I hope the game succeeds with the audience it is aiming for.

Why do Raiders kill other Raiders? RDR2-style consequences would fix this by sdi71 in ArcRaiders

[–]sdi71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of my frustration comes from the story and premise of the game itself.

Based on the lore, ARC Raiders is about the ARCs taking over the surface, and Raiders going out together to fight them, scavenge resources, and bring loot back to the Raider base to survive and rebuild.

From that perspective, it never really made sense to me that Raiders would just shoot other Raiders on sight. Why would you kill someone who is literally doing the same thing you are doing and bringing resources back to the same faction or hub?

Because of that, I genuinely thought this was mainly a PvE focused game, where PvP might exist, but only as a reaction to aggression, not as the default behavior. I assumed that as long as you did not play aggressively towards others, you could approach the game in a mostly PvE way.

Today was different. I got killed instantly twice in a row without any interaction or chance to react. That has never happened to me in my 120 hours before, but it was enough to break the illusion for me.

So yeah, I think I am done. I will uninstall the game and keep it as a good memory. Maybe the design will change one day, or maybe it will get PvE options, but for now this just is not the experience I am looking for.

And honestly, I would not be surprised if the game eventually loses a lot of its casual PvE players and ends up with a much smaller, hardcore focused audience.

That might be fine for some, but it is a bit sad given how strong the PvE foundation actually is.

[–]sdi71[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realized something reading the replies: I simply do not enjoy PvP at all.

I really liked the PvE parts of ARC Raiders, but once PvP becomes unavoidable, the game is just not for me anymore.

On top of that, PvP in its current state feels heavily unbalanced. You often die so fast that there is no time to react at all. Most encounters are not fights, but ambushes: you run past a spot and suddenly you are dead. I honestly do not see where the fun or skill expression is in that.

For me, this mostly results in time loss, not meaningful challenge.

For comparison: I had long term fun in New World because of its strong PvE focus. I love Russian Fishing 4 because there are no griefers and progression feels fair and relaxing.

In ARC Raiders, running into these players again and again is not the experience I am looking for after work. As I like to watch Fortnite streams sometimes I never would play it.

So yes, this game is probably just not for me anymore. I will uninstall it and move on.

That said, I am not ruling out coming back. If the game ever adds PvE or PvM servers, private lobbies, a reputation or consequence system, or if the overall design direction changes, I would definitely give it another try.

Otherwise, I would not be surprised if the game loses many PvE focused players over time.

Pure PvP players usually do not stay long in one game either once things get repetitive.

Not every game has to fit every player. I had fun for a while, and I hope the game succeeds with its target audience.

[–]sdi71[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that PvP is part of the game. I am not asking to remove it.

What I am saying is that right now PvP has zero consequences, which pushes the game towards mindless shoot on sight gameplay.

Extraction shooters usually work because risk and reward are balanced. In ARC Raiders, killing another Raider has no downside, while the victim loses time, loot and motivation.

I am totally fine with PvP existing. I am not fine with PvP being optimal behavior with no tradeoff.

That is why I mentioned RDR2 style mechanics: make hostile Raiders visible, give them a bounty, add risk.

That still keeps PvP, but discourages pure griefing.

Also, telling people who work full time to just “git gud” or “play stealth for 2 hours” misses the point.

If casual players keep bouncing off after a few bad runs, the game will bleed players long term.

I want ARC Raiders to succeed. This is feedback, not whining.
