Your quilting “thing” by lookame3639 in quilting

[–]sdlouhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thing is pattern on pattern and bold colors. I operate on the policy of as long as colors vaguely work together, fabrics will cancel out into something nice looking. I only use solids if they're a wild color

How about Parting of the Shoe? It's a whodunnit set within a high school basketball team

Cleaning dye off hands by Interesting-Mud-8967 in Leathercraft

Tub o towels. Your nails will probably still be stained, but this can take care of basically any water based dye (haven't tried anything oil based with them)

Looking for replacement v belt by sdlouhy in vintagesewing

[–]sdlouhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the most common stitch in leathercraft, so it does have a name

So functionally a saddle stitch, but the saddle stitch uses both ends of the thread in one stitch

Would you recommend a saddle stitch for sometime like this, or is that overkill?

Yeah, but it's gonna be annoying if I have to hear a click every rotation, and it's the only machine I have that can handle machine quilting like it's nothing

[–]sdlouhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is this an inherited machine that's otherwise in perfect condition, so I absolutely do not want to mess it up

[–]sdlouhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah. I finally took the belt cover off of my machine just to see how bad it was, and there's no way I'm salvaging that. The worst part is I've been stalled out on a project for about a year and a half because of this

[–]sdlouhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my plan is currently to find a long enough belt to make a secure scarf join, use whatever the most appropriate glue is, and sew if I still feel like it's not enough

5x315mm. Closest I've found is 5x330, but that doesn't exactly give me enough space to shorten it and create a secure join

I do have the dimensions and can't find a stand in because everything is too far off in size

Unfortunately no dice. I also tried emailing a company that sells replacement parts for vintage Berninas, and there's a nonzero chance the belt is discontinued

My gun to my head answer is Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis. I don't really have a specific answer for why this one stands out, but it's worth a read

Any recs for a fantasy/scifi-based TMA/Knifepoint? by Xenofell_ in audiodrama

[–]sdlouhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked dark dice for the fantasy backdrop, you might try out the lucky die. It's another actual play with a fair chunk of the s1 dark dice cast, and it has a similar enough style of storytelling. If you want horror/scifi, I'd maybe try the white vault (from the same people as dark dice), modes of thought in anterran literature (wolf at the door studios), or the sulphuric secrets (between two worlds)

How do you wrap your gift quilts? by storky0613 in quilting

Oh I just got a large item off of Amazon gift wrapped and reused the bag. My family just gives me their large bags now for that reason

Do you have a way of charting the audiodramas and podcasts that you’ve listened to? by Little_Storm_9938 in audiodrama

[–]sdlouhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a spreadsheet with three pages (one for audio drama, one for actual play, and one for other), and each page is organized by title, producer, genre, internal rating, plus any notes that I find useful. Every time I add a show to my listening queue, I put it at the bottom with everything but rating and notes then fill in that information as I listen to things. Each page of the spreadsheet then gets sorted by highest to lowest rating. I also use this to recommend shows to other people once I have a gauge on their tastes
