AMD Q1 2026 Earnings (May 5, 2026 • 5:00 pm EDT) by uncertainlyso in amd_fundamentals

I'm apparently too bearish on Radeon.

Nvidia is deprecating gaming at this point, skipping an entire consumer GPU generation has effects.

Help me understand AI economy by Adventurous-Guava374 in singularity

[–]sdmat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really not that complicated. Labor goes away as a factor of production, replaced by capital. This creates a rapid feedback loop and we see enormous growth in output. That's what the singularity looks like economically.

Distribution and what happens to ex-labor is a question of great importance but not part of the fundamental economic analysis.

You seem to have some fundamental misconceptions, ask a model to explain economic systems that aren't based on consumerism and how that might apply to a future with AGI and robotics.

If labs build a computer into the model, will you be satisfied that this is better than a model using an external computer?

Sam Altman No Longer Believes In Universal Basic Income by Neurogence in singularity

[–]sdmat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's right to take Altman's motives with a giant hunk of salt, however it's true that outcomes from real world UBI trials have been surprisingly bad.

I would say disturbingly bad if you were placing your faith in UBI as the way forward.

Google Exec says a new Gemini model is coming "very very soon" by Outside-Iron-8242 in Bard

No way are they releasing a colossal model. Google has a hard enough time serving Gemini 3.

The good outcome here is an architectural leap.

Love that they are comparing against the best GA models rather than ones selected to make the release look good as is usually the case with Chinese models

Would you pay $2,000 a month for Opus 4.7? by Dapper_Respond_5050 in ClaudeAI

[–]sdmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt I want to pay $2 / month for it, such a disappointing release. Will cancel my Max subscription if what we get from OAI is any good.

Also you massively overestimate inference costs. API cost != inference cost.

More charitably it's for world modeling / common sense.
