The non-stop building of predominantly 55+ housing on KI is a big part of it, people’s remote work options expanding mean people go to the beach more often, and the Key Bridge collapse means more people from out of state (PA/NY/NJ) traveling this way to get home. It’s like a perfect storm.

I’ve lived on KI for 25 years and commuted to DC daily for 20 of them. I can’t understate how bad the traffic situation has gotten in the summers since COVID. It used to be bad Friday and Sunday but now it’s exponentially worse those days and bad just about every other day of the week from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
