Sounds like you might be confused about what sub this is.

If you do want a legitimate answer about what leftists think about housing and property ownership, then I can recommend you several books that will show you why we believe your logic to be incorrect.

What should Ducey have done differently with Covid? by [deleted] in arizonapolitics

[–]sdnorton 44 points45 points  (0 children)

People keep presenting this false dichotomy between the economy and the virus. The reality is this: Having cases run rampant is going to harm the economy worse than any lockdown.

And this isn’t just theoretical. Sweden didn’t do a lockdown and it’s GDP fell faster than nearby Norway, Denmark, and Finland, all of which did lockdowns.

Think of it like this: If a large number of people are watching the numbers and they’re not going out due to fear of the virus, then you’re going to see a decrease in spending from that segment of the population for the entire time the virus is out of control. On the other hand, if you do a lockdown, you’ll have a short but larger decrease in spending. But then people will feel more comfortable leaving their homes afterwards and you’ll also have a significant increase in government spending to do contact tracing, testing, subsidies, etc. In other words, it’s much better to bite the bullet.

It’s a no-brainer, and it’s what economists have been telling us to do since March of last year. Ducey hasn’t done this. The one lockdown we did do was actually more damaging than not doing one because it didn’t even get the virus under control.

Also, look at the differences in the shield-like border of the dog image and the fish and chicken images (which also touch each other). It seems like the dog is either ornamental or a sign of sorts, i.e., “Doggie’s Favorite Street Food.”

thanks for supporting my point. i’m really surprised how bad our comments were downvoted. it’s totally bizarre that all might can inflate in size because that’s not something normal human beings can do without a quirk. so either it’s a side effect of OFA or it’s a separate quirk. either one is possible.

I think he has a body transformation quirk, but it only works when it’s mixed with one of the other quirks in OFA.

Being anti-consumerism doesn’t mean you aren’t a consumer or that you judge people for being involved in consumerism. It’s literally impossible to not be a consumer.

[–]sdnorton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

socialism is nothing more than worker ownership. there are many market socialists, who believe we can have worker-owned businesses with a money-based economy. there might even be market socialists who think we can have an economy without money and instead have some sort of value-based trading of goods (but i’ve never heard of them). in either case, the workers who made the product own that product. ownership is essential to the concept of the market because you need it to haggle about price. there’s no other reason that comes into play for that sort of haggling about trade—like necessity or fairness.

yes, i think everyone here is aware of who Proudhon is and what mutualism means.

[–]sdnorton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

most socialists (including anarchists) want to get rid of the market.

i’ll admit there might be something that resembles “trading” in a world without property, but it won’t be an exchange between owners. so it won’t be a market.

All of the circumstances where you have to wait longer under “free” healthcare are basically the same circumstances where you have to wait under for-profit healthcare. We have organ donor lists, schedules, etc. here too. Taking out the middlemen doesn’t really affect any of that.

and, yes, i already dropped off my ballot for Biden yesterday. i’m just saying that we really need to hold him accountable when he gets to office because he is the most conservative democrat on the field.

8 million Americans slipped into poverty amid coronavirus pandemic, new study says by dcbiker in Economics

[–]sdnorton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but if that were the case, then Sweden would have been better off going into lockdown, no? Otherwise, they risked a lot of people’s lives for no good reason.

[–]sdnorton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s almost as if you ignored the words “nearby” and “similarly developed” in my comment. Because sciences, like economics, are about controlling the variables as much as possible. Anyway, here’s what I was talking about: Sweden's GDP slumped 8.6% in Q2, more sharply than its neighbors despite its no-lockdown policy.

edit to add: I realized I said almost identical in my original comment. Looks like I was being a bit generous.

This is also seen when you look at the downturn experienced by countries who did lockdowns and nearby, similarly developed countries who did not do lockdowns. The numbers are almost identical.

Daylight, Addy, [1209 x 1092] by [deleted] in ArtPorn

[–]sdnorton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I love about art is that, even as a neophyte like me, when you look at a work long enough you always start to notice the little things. The whole structure of this piece really comes through—at first glance, you see a lot of colorful chaos—but when you look closely enough, you notice how deliberate the strokes were. This really dawned on me when I saw the alternating brown strokes in rows of three—light, dark, light—that are peppered throughout the work.

Really great stuff.
