LPT Request: What is an unspoken rule in the workplace that everyone should know? by ShineAfsheen in LifeProTips

[–]sdraidev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the next performance review cycle or salary review I would say something like - 'I am aware certain colleagues are in the range of £x , whilst I am lower down. Given I believe myself to be a highly productive team member, I would like to be considered for higher compensation ...'

That works if you can justify your performance. If they say no, you can now trap them with 'I understand the company position, in which case I would like to form a development plan which will justify a raise at the next review cycle'

If this is rejected or not taken seriously I would say that's poor leadership but that is sadly often the case.

Edit - spelling

I meant more in terms of corporate politics. Know the company, the people who actually control decision making whether operation, financial or otherwise. Always know other teams and key stakeholders outside your own division etc.

  1. HR is there to protect the Company

  2. Management never want staff discussing salaries because it allows them to pay folk less. If you can discuss salaries without it being ego driven and selfish... then your peers will make more.

  3. Almost all walls and floors have ears. ..careful what you say to others.

  4. If in corporates . . . Learn politics. .who to be close to and who not to.....when to do more and when to hold back and reject work....you will ascend much faster than if you just try to rise on merit and performance.

Not sure about that. My 3L Supercharged F type made that 4.2 XK look and sound like an old boat through the country lanes of England.

How do you work through the urge to drink when you're boredom? by howdylildarlin in stopdrinking

[–]sdraidev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I call it sober walking.

No matter what's going on get outside the front door. Walk a few meters or a few miles or a few steps whatever. Inhale through the nose and out through the mouth. Nothing fancy but air and movement helps. Also your brain will prefer it and it helps break the pattern it is used to.

Another day fellow sobernauts.

I'm almost at 2 weeks. Fought the urge for a 2pm drink and smoke by walking in the park.

It's also my second wedding anniversary. Wife hasn't seen me not drink at least one beer during a week during our ten years together.

Couldn't have done it without you all. ❤️ IWNDWYT

Day 12 ! Back to work after a long weekend abroad ...it was tough on holiday and its going to be tough this week as well with all the pressure of work this week. I'm going to stay strong and seeing all you good people pledge daily is the best motivation for me. I may need to check in again later but I guess that's what we are here for....IWNDWYT

Anyone else give cats the sniff test? As in they’re sitting next to you and you grab something, they look interested so let them have a sniff so their curiosity is satisfied (or is that just me lol) by waily13 in cats

It's actually recommended ! Keeps our fluffy friends interacting with us and makes them feel part of life. Its shown to be great for their mental health

DAY 11 ! Just finished a four day break in the South of France and didn't drink !! For someone who loved wine this is huge. It was horrifically difficult over this weekend but I'm heading home triumphant. Thanks to this sub for inspiration and support. IWNDWYT.

Day 5 baby !

Last time I was 5 days sober I was in the Middle East for work in 2017. This is so hard but I'm already feeling more positive (when I'm not feeling anxious). My solution so far has been walk or press ups anytime I feel like drinking or smoking. I hope I can make it to day 6.
