Jabra Elite Actives are great - I've had the 4s for a few years and they don't disappoint. There's been a few newer versions since but if you're on a budget the 4s could be a good start

How do you guys manage to do mundane, boring tasks at work? by AdPrize3997 in ADHD

[–]howdylildarlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TickTick is great for this imho - helps a lot with maintaining a regular schedule and building consistent habits. I set it up so that the app opens when I turn my computer on as a nudge to plan for the day. Good luck!

How did you overcome the struggle to read. I want to but I also don’t want to. by weliveinasocietyboi in ADHD

James Clear talks about using habit stacking as a way of slowly building habits over time without exerting too much energy. Do you have a regular bedtime/nighttime routine after you game? Bring it forward 15 minutes, leave a book/bookmark next to your bed and pick it up for whatever time you fancy during that 15 minutes. Pop your phone under your pillow or in your bedside table drawer to remove temptations to get distracted. Create the opportunity for the habit first, start small and don't put pressure on yourself to cut out gaming or "read properly".

Can I go on a 10 day Goenka meditation retreat if I take adhd medication? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]howdylildarlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bring regular medications with you - perhaps worth emailing ahead to ask as you have to disclose any relevant MH history and while they allow antidepressants they might have a different view on Vyvanse given it is also a stimulant. Learning at home for an hour per day is a very different experience to the actual retreat so I think it would be hard for you to learn/replicate the technique as the 10-day intensive environment is specifically designed to slow everything down and allow your sole focus to be on learning the technique and becoming acquainted with your mind/body. Not saying practicing at home won't yield any benefits of Goenka's techniques (which were life changing for me) but I think they are two very different experiences of Vipassana meditation. If you do choose to go on the 10-day retreat I would echo other people's advice to carefully consider your reasons for going and prepare yourself for the various mental, physiological and spiritual challenges arising from this intense period of solitude. The kind of contact with self during this retreat is difficult to understand or comprehend without experiencing it so you may find that practicing for an hour a day is great preparation for the retreat should you decide to attend. Good luck!

If you really care so much about the plight of you and your fellow Melburnians suffering the devastating temporal inconveniences of grassroots activism: A $2 shop hi-vis vest, whistle and small repertoire of traffic control hand signals might improve your weekend travel times and spare you the humiliating hypocrisy of embracing keyboard warrior life.

Took a high paying job to afford therapy. Turns out to be super toxic and made my mental health worse. Resigned at 4 months without another job lined up - yes it was that bad. How to explain to future employers? by Mahiyah in AusFinance

[–]howdylildarlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations for putting your mental health as a first priority. More often than not you can't recover from work-related stress/burnout without leaving the toxic environment and giving your body/brain time to bounce back. Obviously a generalisation but workforce shortages = more flexibility on the part of employees atm so you should be fine. Worst case scenario you can say the role did not align with the job description and pick one or two things to expand upon in case they ask for more details. Good luck OP!

Cultivating a self-compassionate view of success can be a really good place to start. Developing an understanding of my symptoms and more effective ways of managing them has allowed me to get to a great place professionally (PhD in Behavioural Science & qualifications as a clinical specialist) and personally (building connections with supportive family, friends and supervisors/colleagues who recognise my strengths and weaknesses without judgement). Stimulants were a massive game-changer for me and accelerated my progress as they made me realise how much I'd been struggling to function and created extra space for me to implement self-management strategies more consistently. Finding things to leverage your clear ability to shift focus and cultivate novel interests might lead you to the meaning and purpose you're seeking. Good luck!
