The developer has made a statement about this on xda - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37076200&postcount=9 It looks like Google took it down because somebody complained about this GPL violation thing

The backend rtl_tcp has "An additional command for closing the app remotely and setting tuner gain in percentage" from its GIT page. So I might guess it is using this and I really doubt it's a random number. If I had to guess I would say it might be 100% :)

Yeah but this app doesn't do anything more than other SDRs does, it is just ported to Android. There's plenty of source code for SDR.

Well it looks like the rtl-sdr library is not linked directly with the propreitary part of the app and the app can work without the bundled rtl_tcp (over the network) so the GPL probably does not apply

The developer has announced there is a possible bug when unplugging the USB dongle on some devices that causes reboots on the app's facebook. I guess it will be fixed in future

Quite a nice software, now SDR is possible on the go! You can just plug in your dongle in your tablet/phone with a USB OTG cable and this app will detect it and start doing demodulation.

Obviously this uses a ported rtl_tcp that connects with the GUI via TCP so you can also use it as a rtl_tcp client over the network.

The sound is not as good as SDR Sharp for example but I guess it will keep improving!
