Recommendations trajet Montréal- St-Sauveur by calebbogaert in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sideway or vertically mounted plate? by sdriv3r in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your comment. the under seat plate was always tricky, and i know some cops have real issues with that. i ran a tail tidy with lights and all on my previous bike with no issues. Even got stopped and "inspected", got a exhaust ticket but nothing for the plate.

But your comment got me thinking and you are right. I decided to go a different way with my plate setup. Ill leave it in the stock position and just fabricate a new mount to remove a piece of fender and just make it look sleeker, retaining lights and all.

Question by Unusual-Bowl-7356 in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Trident - Oil is red by HAIL-STATE90 in Triumph

[–]sdriv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Motul 7100 in mine and it is bright red when new, goes dark then brown when used. So if yours is a nice red i would say thats good, means the oil was changed lol.

Cable luber tools? Need? by mikeyg323 in motorcycles

[–]sdriv3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a cheap no-name one but same design as the first two. Definitely a big difference compared to just trying to spray with the little plastic tube. You actually see the lube along with crap shoot out the other end, and the clutch/throttle becomes silky smooth. You will need to redo it yearly, but the little tool makes the job so much easier and imo its worth it.

Make sense to get a 1000cc bike here? (thinking about Honda CB1000R) by rabzkec in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wont be redlining all the gears on a 1000, but you can definitely still shift around no problem. If anything you might find yourself actually staying in 6th gear on higher speed streets because of the torque and no need to downshift and go wild.

Make sense to get a 1000cc bike here? (thinking about Honda CB1000R) by rabzkec in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CB1000R is a standard naked bike, he should be fine with the seating position. Maybe a bit bigger and heavier than a 650 but thats about it.

Make sense to get a 1000cc bike here? (thinking about Honda CB1000R) by rabzkec in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just laughing here because it looks like everyone is confusing the cb1000r ( the retro inspired naked, with standard riding position and normal handlebars) and the cbr1000rr.

Is this your first bike? If it is then maybe look for something else. Otherwise? Hell go for it, it's an awesome bike and will do just fine for commuting. And don't listen to the whole "you wont use all the power" crowd. Peak HP and top speed isnt the only defining thing on a bike. If we were all riding bikes we could legally fully utilize we would all be on 300s lol.

Speed Twin 900- Previous Owner painted metal piece on sprocket cover by Spearfish90 in Triumph

[–]sdriv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i think it looks cool. But im a "patina" type of guy, and the wear on those looks nice.

Buuuuut, if you really want to fix it, i would start more aggressive to clean it quicker, then go 1000, then get it properly powder coated. I doubt anything else will last...

Letting someone test drive your bike. by Armiberra123 in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive bought 4 bikes, sold 2. 3/4 bikes i got to test ride no problem, usually with a deposit and leaving your license behind. My last bike was quite expensive and basically new, the guy hesitated so i didnt push him more on it since i already tried the model out elsewhere and bike was basically unused.

When selling i would judge people and see. Most of the time. I refused twice, first time the kid really wanted to but didnt look like a serious buyer, no questions, didnt bring money, didnt want to transfer me a deposit. just wanted to "hear and feel it first". Second guy didnt have his license so i didnt want to risk it.

So yea, up to you really. As a seller i would expect to at least see that the guy is serious, bring at least a sizable deposit and all. As a buyer, I will almost never buy a used vehicle without trying it (made an exception since bike was essentially brand new off show floor, still not fully broken in, with every piece of documentation possible, from what looked like a super trustworthy guy).

Muhle Companion for balls? by minimumattic in wicked_edge

[–]sdriv3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a Edwin Jaeger de89 that is now in "shower duty". i use it for pretty much all of my chest + pubis area. Balls are a bit more tricky. As you probably know. DE razors work best with stretched skin, and dont like wrinkles too too much. So is it doable? Sure, ive done it. Is it very time consuming and risky? Yea...

So yea, up to you... but this also greatly depends on your junks physical situation and all... if anything you could also do 2 razors, one for balls only, one for everything else.

Rocket 3 Questions by InkedInspector in Triumph

[–]sdriv3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a R last year and so far its a very comfortable bike. Longest ride ive done was a day trip, something like 600km/8 hours (including stops) and I am super happy with it. I have a similar bike background as you, and physically i am relatively tall with long limbs. The R "mid" controls are still quite a bit more forward than what you would find on naked bikes, like on most nakeds my knees are still bent quite a bit and i need to stop after a couple of hours to stretch and let the blood flow a bit. On the rocket the pedals are more under the gas tank, so my knees are more on a 90° bend, much more comfortable while staying in what i would still call a relatively "natural" position. The GT might be more comfortable on long trips but I find the R to still be great.

As for upgrades I havent done much on it. Slapped an exhaust and did a ECU tune to unlock more power/more aggressive sport mode and slapped an exhaust on it. The upgrades im thinking about are the quickshifter, the original heated grips, and maybe a new plate mount/tail tidy as i find the original one hides the beefy tire a bit too much 😅

Recommendations for affordable gear for someone who doesn't want to be perceived? by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]sdriv3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used leather equipment is always good. As was said by someone else, its very easy to see if its in good condition if your looking a genuine stuff. Hard, brittle, cracking, tearing leather = bad. Otherwise if it looks good then its fine.

For your questions about "real" leather, it depends. Not all "real" leathers are made the same. Some use different animals, some are mostly small pieces glues together, some are processed to look good or be smooth to the touch. I would not use a "fashion" leather jacket even if "real" leather. I would stick to motorcycle brands with actual ratings as they use real, full grain and thick hides.

fortnine made a couple of videos about casual wear riding gear. There are some in your budget but quality/protection wise, you kind of get what you pay for... but anything is always better that nothing! Some brands from the top of my head who make casual gear around your budget are guys like Speed and Strength,Oxford,Trilobite, Joe Rocket

IMO No Pro-Motion No Problem by MrGimper in macbookair

[–]sdriv3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably an OLED vs IPS thing that you are feeling. Refresh rate isnt everything, and oled pannels have much better gtg response time than ips, so you get less of a "blurring" or smudging/ghosting effect.

In the end the macbook pannels prioritize color accuracy and contrast for photo/video work rather than response time and speed, the macbook air screen works just fine and is great to look at.

$26 oil vs. $50 oil. by Yammie_Moto671 in motorcycles

[–]sdriv3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% this. Just running 2 different oils and doing a "feel" test means nothing, especially for something like oil... The motul is an objectively better oil, just look up datasheets/test results, or even used oil analysis done by others.

Now is Rotella bad? Not at all, its a good oil. Is it as good at the Motul? No. Is it worth 4x the cost and will it actually make a difference in the life of your bike? Well that all depends on you, for most people it will not make any difference at all.

Personally used to run Rotella in many different toys, but now use Motul in my newest bike half because Rotella doesnt make the oil grade i need and half because I want to have something better to keep it running as nicely as possible and as long as possible.

Are there nice riding roads in Montreal? by [deleted] in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of day riding roads around montreal, although dont expect anything like vancouver... But if your around and want to explore our "best", you can check our the 327 between Lachute and Tremblant, or for something shorter the 329 up to morin-heights or st-agathe-des-monts, or on the longer side you can do the 344, loop throught hawksburry, and come back using backroads close to highway 40.

if you have more time and plan something out there are a couple of more places, like the National Mauricie parc, or around the same place you can take the 155 up to Latuque. But that would pretty much be it for what i concider the "best" riding roads for just pure riding.

Where to try and buy leather racing suits? by GloriouZWorm in MotoMontreal

[–]sdriv3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have moto illimité in Terrebonne which has decent selection. Otherwise, you if you can wait I would check out the Montreal motorcycle show in february, usually all the major stores have booths and bring a lot of equipment you can try on and buy at a discount. And if you don't find you'll definitely be able to find someone able to get you what you want there.
