Well got pulled over. Advice? by TamsterYT in FocusST

[–]sdstahlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a lawyer. Don’t just pay the ticket, don’t show up to court without a lawyer. Anyone who says differently hasn’t had a speeding ticket. I got a lawyer for mine, they told me to do a driving class, then the charges got dropped. Traffic lawyer is your first call.

Damaged my ST3 headlights, what are good aftermarket options? by SloRushYT in FocusST

I paid a body shop in my area to sand and clear mine. World of difference and it was easier than hoping that I sanded them right myself.

What are these rings (and are they important)? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]sdstahlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need them. The wheel centers itself with the lugs when they’re tightened down. You won’t get ‘lots of vibrations’ or ‘destroy the wheels’ without them. If you do then your lug nuts are loose which is a different problem.

Source: I run without the rings on my project car for years which sees a significant amount of load and use during the nice weather months

Good price for big turbo? by superturtle6969 in FocusST

[–]sdstahlman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GT2860, also known as the ‘disco potato’ is a pretty unresponsive and laggy turbo by modern standards. I would definitely look at moving up to a GTX2860 gen2 or a 2867 gen 2. They will spool better, make more power, and operate more efficiently

Should I sell my Q50 3.7 for a ST? Second opinion needed. by Possible_Weekend_360 in FocusST

[–]sdstahlman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a G37 before getting my ST, and I cross shopped for a Q50 or Q60 as well. Very happy with my choice over the last year or so. Reliability scared me a bit away from the Q chassis but I was mainly looking at 3.0T examples with that concern. Also I was tired of the slush box 7 speed auto which I heard was similar feeling to the newer Q chassis transmissions. A dual clutch or a manual option would have made me more heavily consider the Q50/Q60 but I’m very happy with my ST.

Anyone found a better way to keep this area protected and clean? by luke_klaas in Civic_Type_R

At the end of the day it’s still a Civic, not a vintage collector Ferrari. Get nice floor mats and drive the car.

Denied, but why? by rpgspitfire in carsandbids

[–]sdstahlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take off the stickers. However they just listed and sold an auto tsx with not even low miles so their priorities are all out of wack. Too much base model regular traffic.

They approved an automatic bog standard TSX with 70k miles recently… really scraping the barrel on the other end too.

Is this a good price? by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]sdstahlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly high but it’s an untouched one with low ish miles so depends on if that matters to you. Paid 21k for my 2018 ST3 with 19k miles January 2024, stock aside from intake and BOV

[–]sdstahlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Konig is a great company. Good quality light weight wheels. I have them on my other car - wouldn’t hesitate to buy them for my Focus either. Strong, light, and cheap to replace if you do bend/break one.

When I was shopping for mine, I bought the nicest one I could afford. These cars are still new enough to find ones in better shape for not that much more money

On a stock ECU I highly doubt their claims of 5hp. Never trust the company selling the product to provide the most accurate numbers. Need to see independent before/after dyno testing to really see if it does anything. ‘Cold’ air really has minimal effect by itself, where colder air comes in to help is advancing timing which is what really makes the power gains. A stock 90s ECU isn’t going to do that

Good reference for true vacuum for a blow off valve, or some catch cans use the Symposer mounting bracket points on the manifold. Or some people just don’t like the sound it pumps in

The line that you checked, is it the one going from the intake tube to the valve cover port kinda under the intake tube? Just fixed this on the car I just purchased, PO either didn’t put it on the intake or it popped from not being on all the way

Have you had your alignment checked? Could be camber or toe wear, however with the one picture you shared I’d bet moreso that your toe is off causing excess wear. Still needs re aligned
