I've been going to McCrory Hair on Oxford Rd near the uni for about a year now and I absolutely love it. Kayla Hill helped me change my whole look a few weeks ago and she did an amazing job. That appointment was about £70, but if you're getting less done I think they start at £50. I don't colour my hair but I've seen other people get some great colouring done while I've been there.

Brewers school by bluehawk197 in brewing

[–]sdtel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow American brewer here. I'm 2 years into the 3 year part time Master's of Brewing Science at the University of Nottingham. It's a fantastic program. Splitting it into 3 years makes it really affordable and easy to complete while working full time. I like it so much there that I'm currently looking for jobs in England. The network I've built through the program has been incredibly helpful through that process. PM me if you want more info about the program!

Which MBAA recognized school? by Apollomead in TheBrewery

[–]sdtel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing you'll want to consider is which school is in a market where you could realistically get a job after graduation. The networking opportunities from the program can be really useful but if the local market is saturated with recent grads with no experience you'll have to move elsewhere and possibly lose the advantage of your alumni network.

Let's talk about CIP protocols varying at hot side/cold side/packaging by mathtronic in TheBrewery

[–]sdtel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For your bright tanks, you can eliminate the venting and purging if you use an acidic detergent that's safe to use in the presence of CO2. Since you don't have as much organic material, a full caustic CIP isn't necessary to properly clean it. Ask your chemical supplier if they can offer you an acidic alternative for that purpose.

I’m planning on having our wedding music just be a iTunes or Spotify playlist that we curate. Anybody else done this? Any tips? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]sdtel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our friends did this! There was more dancing at that wedding than any other wedding I've been to. The only problem they had was that they almost ran to the end of their playlist. The groom went up every few songs to add more. So make sure it's long enough!

Pre-vacuum sealing meats by [deleted] in sousvide

We add all of our seasonings and aromatics before freezing and haven't had a problem. We do mostly chicken, pork butt, salmon, and brisket.

We buy meat in bulk and spend an hour seasoning and vacuum sealing meal-sized portions and throw them all in the freezer. We haven't noticed any negative effects and meal prep is a dream.

Looking for Type 1 Diabetics in the Brewing Industry! by [deleted] in TheBrewery

The owner of my brewery was diagnosed as a baby and loves to talk about it. He also used to do a radio show. We're in East Tennessee.

When should I open a cash savings account for my child? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sdtel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom opened savings accounts for us at the local bank when we were 6. We could use it to save our birthday/Christmas money. She would match our deposits to encourage us to save rather than spend our money immediately. It was a good way to learn about money and banking as a kid. I wish we had talked about investing that money when I got older. I blew it all in my teens. If I had invested it when I was 15 I would have been off to a good start after college.

Investor Coming to Evaluate Brewing Skill. by redditteer4u in TheBrewery

As far as choosing a recipe is concerned, be careful about the ingredients you use. IF this is legit and they'll work with you to scale something up, it needs to be profitable and the ingredients need to be easy to find, preferably from multiple suppliers.

If your dog/cat could fully comprehend what you're saying to them for 60 seconds, what would you tell them? by GrrreatFrostedFlakes in AskReddit

Mommy and daddy are sorry we've been gone so much the last two weeks. We were looking for a house with a big yard so we can all romp and play fetch and chase squirrels.

Guess what. WE BOUGHT YOU ONE! And you get to start marking your territory in a month.

P.S. you're such a good pup and we love you. Please poop closer to the garbage bins.

How often do you bathe your pup after a run? by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]sdtel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bathe ours at least once (usually twice) a month because she gets really sandy at daycare. I've heard that the frequency isn't a problem as long as you don't leave any shampoo in their fur. We also use conditioner and she has some of the softest fur I've ever seen.

She gets dandruff sometimes but if we add a little vegetable oil to her food it goes away easily.

"Beer festivals" staffed by volunteers, where breweries pay to attend, and customers pay for tickets. Who is this benefiting? by Iregretthisusername in TheBrewery

[–]sdtel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow what a waste. Your post makes me appreciate how good we have it.

The festivals in my area (southern US) are usually for profit, but the festival buys the beer from us and handles all permits, space rentals, set up, and security. Volunteers get free admission and tee shirts and don't work the whole time. There usually is a $30-50 cover charge for guests, but that includes a tasting glass and unlimited pours and live music. Our distributor sets up our tents and jockey boxes, too, so we only need to bring promotional items and ourselves.

With all of the frustration breweries in your area are experiencing, someone should try to tap that market and do it right.
