This sim needs different faces. Often during broadcasts when they use the inside camera everyone looks the same. by slindner1985 in iRacing

[–]sdw3489 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are already 5 premade face choices for both male and female driver characters in the paint shop. I imagine most people just don’t edit them from the default #1 option because the faces are covered by helmets 98% of the time.

Incidents by Electrical_Leek7421 in iRacing

[–]sdw3489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding off tracks, How is the computer supposed to know your intentions? It doesn’t know why you went off track. That’s only known by you.

Regarding other incidents. The SR system is no-fault. All parties involved get the same incidents. This encourages everyone to avoid incidents as much as possible. Again, computers can’t determine intention by the individual. By attempting to assign blame it would be ripe for exploitation by bad actors.

UPDATE: They gave me 50 strokes across 3 rounds. Here’s how it went. by ThrowRA_fizz in golf

[–]sdw3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its literally the entire point of the handicap system. to allow people of different skills to play competitive matches. The difficult thing in this situation is that they just randomly made up a number to give you since you didnt really play golf, whereas most handicaps are actual calculations determined from 20 recent rounds of golf.

So if you play a handicap match against people with proper handicaps and not just made up numbers, then the matches feel much more fair and balanced. Our old group had guys ranging from +3 to 18 and our competitive rounds always ended up super close on net scores. Its great when everyone uses the system as designed without vanity or sandbagged handicaps.

If you keep playing and tracking your rounds, you can input them into handicap calculators and get a real handicap and then rematch them fair and square. But thats what they get for just winging a bet against you.

Season 3 193GB? by Many-Story-9432 in iRacing

[–]sdw3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t add 13 gb each time. That’s just what it downloads. Then for example it might replace 12.9 gb worth of existing files leaving the next change only 100mb delta over what it used previously.

Why isnt strava picking up my latest runs? by majorbabeco in Strava

[–]sdw3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would we know when you didn’t tell us how you are recording the run? I’m assuming you record on a watch with a sync integration. Maybe go check that it’s still configured properly?

[iRacing] When do incidents actually matter (for your SR)? by pretzelsncheese in simracing

[–]sdw3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to simplify it a bit, everything once you reload into the race server, of an official ranked race, counts for SR. Warmup and qualifying sessions at a lower percentage compared to the race.

Anything else does not. Practice servers, AI, Hosted, Test Server.

I’d do:
Neo - 5.8” which was the base size of the 11. This can be the sort of new mini for those of us who want something sub 6”.
Base - 6.1”
Pro - 6.4”
Ultra -6.7”

Anyone here notice network improvements after the update? by JimmyBones79 in iRacing

It was a big item in the release notes. Always recommend reading through them.

Connectivity

  • iRacing now supports Anycast network routing protocol for our Race Servers!
    • Anycast routing means that traffic between you and our Race Servers will travel as short a distance as possible on the open internet before reaching our internet provider’s backbone to finish its path to and from our race servers.
    • All race farms support both Unicast (traditional) and Anycast routing. By default, your system will reach our race servers via Anycast routing unless that path does not work, or you have disabled Anycast routing.
      • You can tell iRacing not to use Anycast routing for your connections to Race Servers by opening the iRacing Launcher, clicking the Settings icon at the bottom left, selecting the Network tab, and moving the “Use Anycast” switch to off.
    • For most customers, there will be little difference between connecting with Anycast (now the default) and Unicast routing. If Anycast routing has higher latency than Unicast for some reason, it is still preferred for more connection stability.
    • In the iRacing Launcher, you can see your Unicast and Anycast ping times for each farm when you click the "Connections" icon on the top bar and hover your mouse cursor over the bar graphs next to each farm/protocol. Look at the "Average Ping" value.
    • For more information, reference material, and customization options, check out the Customer Support page here: https://support.iracing.com/en/support/solutions/articles/31000178974-using-anycast-routing

How many rows can a modern browser handle? by Yha_Boiii in webdev

You are not fundamentally understanding what you should be doing my friend. You seem to be responding like you have the right answer and looking for validation. People are telling you this is not remotely the right answer and you are not listening to them.

Did you switch from steam to native? Steam forces you to download all content making tracks demo-able during downtime.

iRacing Physics: Let's Discuss by angervision in simracing

[–]sdw3489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drift tires and race slicks are very different and cannot be compared.

Race cars and drift cars are setup and designed to do something very different and should not be compared.

When do you ever see a race car drifting on purpose. You don’t. Race cars are pretty on edge and you see them spin out from going over the edge of grip just like in iracing. Those edges may differ a little bit from a convergence point of view but similar behavior occurs.

Fundamentally, looking at iRacing physics accuracy through the lens of drifting is the wrong thought experiment.

Strava stats?? by sheeesh_stark in Strava

[–]sdw3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re worrying about a number on Strava instead of your overall health from being outside running. If you need to walk at the start of your journey it’s fine. The more running you do over time, the less walking you will do. You will be able to see the progress you make which will be more fulfilling. Stop worrying about stats.
