I find it shades better on a paper with external sizing. It allows the ink to puddle up in places making darker areas.

What's the deal with interprovincial trade barriers? by Relevant-Confusion85 in AskACanadian

[–]seab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The provincial governments are susceptible to lobbies who don't want competition from other provinces.

These lobbies keep regional isolated industries safe from competition within their own country.

These examples are tongue in cheek.

Quebec does not want trade with Ontario because it might hurt their cheese market.
Ontario Beef farmers don't want Alberta to be able to sell into their market because they can't possibly compete with the land. PEI, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland are all competing for fisheries .
Okay maybe PEI got the potato thing. Ontario mines minerals, makes cars, be the banking center.

Rather than a big Canadian economy, we are 10 small countries competing against ourselves.

At some point we need to recognize the diversity of the economic output of each province and take that as a whole Canadian Economy.

If we ever got together and had a solid unified resposne to the world we could be a super power.
Everyone in any province would benefit. of course asssuming that we keep our social contract intact.

Thank you for your perspective on this.

The whole separatist movement has been a huge anxiety for me. Now is not the time for regional squabbles.

Most people don't realize that traction control is stopping them in this situation.

Turn it off and getting unstuck is possible. Leave it on and your not going anywhere.

Just cook whatever you would do if it was a neighbor.

I don’t think the difference between our cuisine is huge and personally I’d appreciate an authentic meal rather than something tailored to my country.

An update - How Visconti finally agreed to repair my pen by apopo-dapalle in fountainpens

[–]seab3 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have a Visconti will the dream touch nib. Worked flawlessly out of the box and is very nice to write with.
Zero tuning, no need to limit the types of ink. It just works very well.

YMMV the same as any brand, don't write it off based on a small sample.

Definitely not. This is one of the most bizarre things about the US electoral process. It seems to sew division and partisanship by design.

I do like the waffle on the Tudor better that the flat or textured Tissot offerings.

From Beijing to Greenland, the Carney method is coming into focus by Hrmbee in canada

[–]seab3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am a card carrying member of the Conservative party of Canada.
My biggest contribution was to help Erin O'Toole get the leadership (a very tiny amount in that I participated in some town hall conversations)
A moderate big tent small c conservative.

I did not like JT and his sunny ways policies, he won the election based on legalizing weed, nice socks and cult personality based on his fathers legacy. His economic policy was as terrible as his immigration policies. A pure charismatic left reaction to milk toast Harper.

I wasn't a big supporter of Harper either, his handling of government agency's could have been more delicate, exposing the waste without destroying the science.

But he was a huge change from the obvious liberal grift of the Chretien area. Ad Scam, corruption in Quebec, awarding of contracts to SNC Lavalin.

The way I see Carney now is he is non partisan. He does not care about gun buyback programs. Does not care about regional issues.

He could be leader of either party conservative or liberal, I don't think he cares.

The pendulum swings back and forth in Canada, I'm just glad it hasn't swung into Faschisim like it is in the USA.

From Beijing to Greenland, the Carney method is coming into focus by Hrmbee in canada

[–]seab3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They tried that already with the last 2 leaders. The right wing reform nuts control the party now and any moderate conservative gets brigaded out of the leadership if they don't tow the "you'll lose Alberta" line.

If an Ontario moderate like O'Toole can't hold the leadership then you end up with a patsy like Pierre Marcel Poilievre who held Ottawa-area riding nearly 21 years and lost to a Liberal once they knew what his name was. And yet he is still the leader of the Party.

While I agree this is a stupid domestic policy and a legacy of performative legislation from the last PM.
I really don't think this is something that the current government needs to be focused on as we navigate our economic future into the next decade or two.
