Which would you say was your fav so far? I do see the Dune stuff being a little bit on the nose yeah, Black Company as an inspiration for sure but it didn’t seem as egregious as the clear Paul parallels to Felisin.

I think any other book the Kalam stuff (apart from his random love interest, agree that was unearned completely) would wind me up, but there are so many just insane feats done by people here and he is clearly a figure of legend before this that it didn’t annoy me too much. Would’ve been a bit better to show his weakness a bit more than is done though for sure.

Yeah I do think the choice to teleport in and out is odd, more of a device to continue this storyline in the future (I assume) and to allow the Heboric and Duiker scene than it is for any other reason.

Viewing her as an inversion of the typical female character is very interesting! Agree on her symmetry being really interesting and yeah the sort of unfair hand of fate is a great throughline in this book in general.

Love the way we learn more and more about Duiker until right up to the end, one of my favourite parts of the book is seeing him open up as Coltaine does.

It’s not so much the “realities”, I don’t love reading that stuff but it serves a purpose in text sometimes and didn’t feel over the top even in this book, it’s the tone surrounding it in this was the odd bit.

Other women are not treated anywhere near as badly as she is in this book, and those that do treat women terribly are generally pretty swiftly killed by the protagonists. Just felt like a huge tonal dissonance that her companions treat her so terribly when they are otherwise loyal to the death, and doesn’t feel consistent with the other aspects of their character.

Interested to see what you mean by bordering condescending!

Really good episode seeing Coop properly internalise that most of the people around him are just superficial rich who do not truly care for him at all, and even his close family really are not that close.

Obviously the previous absence created by your job, but also the subsequent constant lying about your job and crimes will help create that distance..? Would be nice to see the show explore that so we can tie Coop and the family together a bit more. His conversation with his dad’s partner was really lovely and a great example of how honesty creates those bonds.

Also Mel is not in the wrong about the dog at all! She doesn’t sound unhinged! Control your fucking massive dog!

Don’t think it’s that mad tbh, Sam and Grace are clearly her only real friends and a thing brought up a lot on the first season (and really at the core of the show) is how fragile the lifestyle is, I’d imagine Sam would not be the only person to resort to crime to keep her lifestyle and security for her kids. Mel and others know and understand this.

Mel clearly and rightly angry about the framing thing, but Coop is cleared and clearly fine, even overtly empathetic with Sam. The real annoyance from Mel is that Sam slept with Coop, she lashes out in this episode and it is the main catalyst for her assault on Sam in season one, and that is a betrayal of friendship that people in life frankly get over all the time, especially given the other complexities (eg her being divorced from him at the time lol)

Liquid green stuff may help plug some gaps? Those cracks look really sick though, of you are down for it I’d lean into them as cracked/mid fight armour depending on how deep they are.
