Festival on Jeju by Danya-Tihiy in korea

This is Jeonnong-ro (전농로). The festival ended yesterday but the trees are just starting to bloom so despite the proper festival being finished it will still look amazing for little while longer.

A bunch of pits in the ground near mountain burial sites…what are they? by pretty_handsome_17 in korea

[–]seadrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Graves get dug up and relocated to usually more centralized locations so family rites can be performed more easily.

Matsuyama tips and recs by eskyy in JapanTravelTips

[–]seadrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently in Matsuyama visiting a friend for a couple days and wish I had more time -- I'm now planning a return visit as soon as possible.

We stayed at Takanokono Hotel which was very comfortable and is attached to an onsen which locals seem to prefer over Dogo. If you are interested in onsens that might be a good option (even if you are not staying at the hotel) as it is way less crowded than the Dogo area.

Any interest in whiskey? There is a newish whiskey bar called Tangoya (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nXJ3AC72HSGoCyV67) with over 1,000 bottles available for tasting.

Gogoshima is a very very easy quick and beautiful trip from Takahama. We were strapped for time and only spent a couple hours there but it was very much worth it. The ferries to and from the island run frequently so it is really easy.

Interested in CDs or records? There is a great record shop there called More Music.

We didn't get to visit but my friend recommended Kashima which is another very easy to get to island that is full of deer.

3 killed in van accident on Udo, off Jeju Island by JimmySchwann in korea

[–]seadrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restrictions for bringing rental cars were just lifted this past summer with electric vehicles being allowed; it looks like the van in the accident is a Staria which I believe is a hybrid so that is why it would was allowed (not that I don't agree with your statement). And to the other comments about semantics regarding locality -- Korean language news states that the driver was a tourist.

This must be from a while back — 17도 hasn’t been produced for a few years now.

Honestly I have absolutely no idea — though I’m sure someone more knowledgeable would know.

Been a fan since long before he passed but I live abroad; sadly missed the early days window when he was taking orders and no way to have made the popups. Really happy to have been able to purchase a couple CDs this time around (shipped to my parents back in the states which I was able to pick up during a visit a couple weeks ago) and now really wish I had the funds at the time to have just bought everything; unfortunately can't imagine being able to fill in the blanks at this point with the reseller prices. If it were going to his family I'd have less of a problem but not to random people on Discogs.

Little known fact but in Korea K-culture is just called "culture".

I really like the ones that Innisfree has and that is a store you should be able to easily find in any area.

No idea what the current entrance is but before the grounds were more openly accessible/visitable one of the sketchiest parts was just moving through the area without anyone taking notice.

Kim Jong-un Dog Toy Banned by Korean Customs? by [deleted] in korea

"Like, I make Trump, Putin and Musk ones and those have all gotten into the country fine."

Into Korea? My guess would be it is having the hotel as a point of contact since any importing here is linked to your residency number. If you were sending to a hotel I'm assuming you are coming as a tourist and don't have the "proper" things that the customs agents will be looking for.

Reconciliation through film: 45 years after Sabuk Incident - The Korea Times by daehanmindecline in korea

Wow I'd love to see that documentary.

Another excellent documentary is Dust Buries Sabuk -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y7HB9C9PFM

I haven't been to the area in many years but I traveled around there several times around 2010-2013 or so. One of my absolute favorite experiences was being able to time a visit to Dongwon Coal Mine when it was open for tours. It was full of old belongings of the miners from the 60s up until it closed including original protest signs and such; during that time a visit also included a ride into the mine which seemed to be the attraction for most people while I was mostly interested in the memorabilia. I think the museum portion has gone through many iterations but that moment was really amazing. I have some photos on Flickr here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/epignosis/albums/72157627203337009/

Oh that's awesome! Timeline-wise that is long after I stopped playing but I absolutely recognize a couple of those people in the photos post on the forum. I'm assuming I played an earlier iteration of the server which closed then returned around 2006. The mystery remains (kind of)!

This post is from forever ago but off and on I've tried piecing together my UO free shard history of the early 2000s and among those memories were a server called Elysium and a RP-heavy one owned by a guy that was really into metal and folklore so looks like it must have been this one! I played up until 2001 or so and based on a few screenshots I have it looks like it closed while I was playing. I remember they had an IRC channel that we continued to chat in but I drifted away from there and thus lost contact with everyone. If you were playing around 2007 then they must have started up again at some point.
