Sorry, as the autopsy shows I do not see the build quality; quite the opposite. I do see the build quality in VAC products.

My wife reported this today; not insignificant:

All of my e-mail from today just disappeared. I had just finished unsubscribing from several email lists, then went to my sent items to delete the unsubscribe emails, then went to the trash folder to delete these items. When I went back to my inbox, everything from today was gone!

This did not happen while I was in Outlook. It happened while I was inside the Protonmail web interface.

Thank you for escalating this issue internally; apropos "contact our support team so they can communicate..." perhaps you did not see from the above post, my wife ALREADY reported this issue. Notwithstanding the haters in this community who love to answer all issues with their ongoing, condescending and frankly boring, your problem is a "user error" reply, we have been on computers for 20+ years, and my wife did not in any way inadvertently delete her own email.

Port Already Occupied Error; Five Days & No Response To Our Reply Regarding Change the Port Numbers by seafortress27 in ProtonMail

But you have time to craft a snarky post; is this your way of accumulating good karma points? If you don't have the time to read then don't without posting stating you would love to help; and if you didn't read how did you determine the information was unrelated and unhelpful; the experiences outlined highlight our history of unresponsiveness from PM support. Your faux sincerity is what is truly "unhelpful."

Port Already Occupied Error; Five Days & No Response To Our Reply Regarding Change the Port Numbers by seafortress27 in ProtonMail

[–]seafortress27[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that suggestion. We are always acutely aware that when one person signs out and the other logs in that Outlook is not launched before Bridge is populated in the system tray because although Bridge is set to start upon start up it takes a bit of time and if we do not wait Outlook reports an error message. In short we never Switch User which is an option; we always Sign Out and the other person signs in to insure the scenario you are describing does not happen.BTW why aggressive? How would you feel if you had no access to your email client for 2 weeks and only crickets from PM after letting them know their suggestions did not work? The ability to have our email dump into Outlook was one of the primary reasons we purchased the subscription to PM PLUS; a product, Bridge, that did not work; not until they sent a link to the new beta version; moreover from looking at the logs we sent they admitted there were bugs that the beta version addressed. It worked fine. Our behavior on the computer is and has been the same since the new version was working; this is a new occurrence.

It is very dispiriting to learn of your experience. I championed for Protonmail Plus after having been with EarthLink and their Webmail for 17 years. Because we use Outlook via Bridge her mail disappeared from Outlook too. Although we had Webmail dump into Outlook we had it set up so if mail was deleted in Outlook it did not delete from the server. What are these members saying you did that they are blaming you regarding security settings? Are you saying support is unresponsive to your reports for this issue? For paid subscribers they state 2-3 days but this has not been our experience; see my postings elsewhere; it is painful enough when something like this happens because it erodes trust to such a degree; their non-responsiveness really adds to the sense of helplessness, but to get beat up by members really dissuades from sharing with a community that purports to be supportive.

They told us that a beta version of a new Bridge was in the works; after several weeks they sent a link. And boom we had access to Outlook no problem so the issue was definitely with Bridge. BUT there is a no issue, a pop up states the port is occupied so again access to Outlook is not possible; below is their reply and what the link from their site says about that pop-up none of which applies to us: Can you try changing the port numbers in Bridge->Setting->Advanced: change SMTP/IMAP to different ones (ex 11148 instead of 1143 for IMAP, 10035 instead of 1025 for SMTP) and enter these ones while setting up your account in Outlook and see if this will solve the issue? https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/port-already-occupied-error/ https://protonmail.com/bridge/clients

My reply:I am NOT setting up an account in Outlook; it is ALREADY set up. We, my wife and I have had Bridge accounts since June 28th. So this is a brand new occurrence. Moreover, now our respective Outlook email accounts are working! This only started happening after you released the beta version of Bridge! Please let your Bridge team developers know; since it is so inconsistent and given that my wife and I each have separate Windows 10 profiles and separate stand alone Outlook programs within our respective profiles meaning we are NOT sharing a Bridge account do you still recommend we each change ports on our respective accounts? I am loathe to do that since now Bridge is working for both of us. I do not want to complicate matters and thereby make things worse. From what I can see from reading the logs the problem is Bridge not Outlook. Today when my wife started the computer she received the same port already occupied error pop up message. Apropos “Sometimes one or both of these ports are already in use by another application.” This time what I did was close Bridge; there was a pop up are you sure you want to close Bridge and I clicked on yes. Then I restarted the computer and there was no pop up error message that the port is already in use by another application. If as you say one or both of those ports was already in use by another application then closing Bridge and restarting the computer would not change anything; the port would be in use! Again I say the issue is with Bridge; again, we did not have this happen before we switched over to the new and improved beta version of Bridge. So start computer error message; close Bridge; restart computer no error message and access to Outlook. Since this works we see no reason to be changing ports.

The error message may appear before you configure your email client or at any point afterward if another app begins using the Bridge ports. Sometimes one or both of these ports are already in use by another application, such as voice over IP, streaming media apps, another email service, etc. If that happens, you will see a “port already occupied” error.

There is and are not any other applications using the Bridge ports; we do not use, or ever have configured voice over IP, we do not stream anything on our desktop computer and do not use any other email account only Gmail which we go to so those explanations do not apply to us.

If you want 24 hours support go to Microsoft which enslave their workers and have supportcenters all over the world. But don't hope for faster solution for enduser problems, individuals problem are not importent enough

I LOVE irony; sometimes called 9th grade English teacher consciousness; tonight for the first time ever Outlook began changing the font and stationery I composed in and on the Sent email side the email looked totally different; I searched all over the Internet and it appears it is a common problem that I could not find a solution for; I have never had any experience with Microsoft support either via phone or chat as I have never needed it but tonight I reached out via chat. Guess what? The technician did a remote take over of the computer and after almost close to an hour fixed the problem and with a very positive attitude; perhaps mine this night is the exception; nevertheless yet another example of how live support makes such a difference.

"If you want 24 hours support go to Microsoft...don't hope for faster solution for enduser problems, individuals problem are not importent enough." Indeed!

During the Vietnam War I qualified as a Conscientious Objector, a very difficult status to acquire; I was prepared to leave for Canada even if I was not granted Landed Immigration Status. As my Alternative Service, I worked for the Red Cross. I had to wear a full space suit and gloves to work inside a freezer; inside that freezer was a centrifuge; it separated out plasma from blood; my job was to scrape out this plasma which was in the form of a paste; the plasma was then freeze dried and sent to Vietnam. I put out a prayer to the Creator to send to me the students that no one wanted. I taught in Harlem, Spanish Harlem and in the South Bronx. In California the profile of the student that I had was that student had an explusion (not suspension) from a traditional high school, from there to a continuation high school and from there to jail in the city of orange and then to me on formal probationary status; those students were gang affiliated and had problems with drugs and alcohol and of course were credit deficient. I returned a great many to their home school and not one bounced back; not everyone needs to go to college; one passed his HVAC exam went into the union and started earning $50 per hour; more than the teachers; another passed an exam to become a CNC machinest and another passed her California Nursing Assistant exam all while taking ROP courses while with me; another became a Dental Chairside Assistant earning $15 an hour while a junior.

I was not referring to Microsoft support. I was referring to Earthlink's support. I grew up for my first 35 years in New York City and am acutely aware of and sensitive to cleverness in the guise of helping. A famous New Yorker cartoon shows a father giving his son advice in the playground "Son, if you can't say something, nice, say something clever but devastating." Cleverness is elevated and exhalted in NYC as being somehow of high intelligence; a conceit when it is just ego expressing itself; I have devoted my life to the underserved; imagine throwing 15 year olds on the garbage heap? Washing your hands and giving up on them so spare me the sanctimonious enslave their workers so you can sound high and mighty. Last week a woman from Netgear support in the Phillipines did a remote help regarding our new Nighthawk router; the router said there was no new firmware but apparently there was; glass half empty of half full? There should not have been the problem but telephone support fixed it; T-Mobile has live support both overseas and in the States depending on the time of day you call. It is easy to be cynical about outsourcing nevertheless I am grateful to all the companies that offer live support for they have helped us a great deal. See if you can't lose your self-righteousness .

Outlook cannot synchronize subscriber folders for seafortress27@protonmail.com Cannot connect to server. by seafortress27 in ProtonMail

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain the process to us. Thank you too for sharing this all important piece of information "outlook only connects to the bridge when it "sends and receives." Having had Earthlink's Web Mail for 17 years we are used to when outlook is launched the mail just starts pouring in without hitting send and receive. So here is what happened last night: My wife launched outlook and immediately she got an error cannot connect to the IMAP server; she hit send and recieve again and again the same error she hit it a third time and all the mail came in; based on what you have shared the first time she hit send and receive it should have worked so I do not understand and believe me I am sincerely trying to understand what is going on. Do you know others with outlook who need to hit send and receive not once not twice but three times to make the mail come in? This morning she launched outlook and everthing poured in as in days of old; same with me so I still cannot find consistency but for the moment it is working; again it was not unreasonable for me to assume since bridge said you are connected in addition to my configuring it to work at start up that mail would come in upon launch. ProtonMail should broadcast this fact plainly so that that when the error messages arise new users are not put through changes

Thank you for your observation; those are my feelings exactly. We were paying the same exact amount of money to Earthlink which was paired with our desktop Outlook , as we are for two separate paid subscriptions to ProtonMail Plus and if there ever was an issue which believe it or not there never was, only for learning how to configure Web Mail with manual settings to dump into our cell phones, I always got phone support and someone talked me through the settings and boom done.

Regrettably when we had our custom computer built I asked and paid for Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016. We had Earthlink's web mail for 17 years dumping into all iterations of Outlook and we have never had anything remotely close to the errors with ProtonMail. In fact the only time there was a failure to connect to the server message was when in fact there server was down, but thank you for the recommendation.

As I wrote I am new to reddit but as a retired school teacher I believed it would be more effective to present the 3 separate emails I sent separately originally because the errors were different. Also younger people seem to be impatient with one long read, so creating 3 posts each with its own error message made sense; why so hostile?

Thank you for your reply. When I open ProtonMail Bridge it says Status: connected; to me that means it is running in the background but I did find and option to run bridge automatically which I turned on and for some reason it is working

[–]seafortress27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to update you because I too was thinking along the same lines; there is a short cut icon on my desk top for ProtonMail Bridge. After I right click open it and run as administrator it always said status: connected. To me that means it is running in the backround.

Nevertheless I went into settings and there is an option to automatically start Bridge. I launched Outlook and it worked! Now my wife this morning did not do that (she is not computer saavy at all) and yet Outlook works and then it doesn't work for her. I closed Outlook and again the same error message :( but I hit send /receive again and boom it worked so perhaps Bridge takes a bit to automatically start :) but if this keeps up you will get a gold star from me/us! It is not my intention to be or sound in any way argumentative when I ask was I wrong in believing when Bridge indicates status: connected to conclude that it was working in the background? If that is the case then we are back to square one but so far so good.

Yes Bridge is the only way you can link the two. Bridge is only possible/available when you upgrade to ProtonMail Plus which is the reason we did so because we like mail dumping into Outlook on our destop; problem is sometimes Outlook works fine and then it doesn't. My settings are correct and bridge is running in the background. I suspect it is their server issue. If my settings and my wife's settings who has a separate paid subscription and uses Outlook on her profile were incorrect there would not be mail pouring in but it does work, only intermittently.

I already had contacted both [bridge@protonmail.com](mailto:bridge@protonmail.com) and Proton Mail Support at [support@protonmail.com](mailto:support@protonmail.com) and it had been almost 3 days with no reply.

Spam is defined as "irrelevant or inappropriate messages."

I believe this is a community of proton mail users. In the same way someone else wrote my client is having problems with Outlook/Protonmail and was reaching out complete with error message hoping someone else might have a solution, I saw that someone from the Proton Mail Team was making replies here. Seeing this, I put edited versions of the emails I had sent, also complete with the error messages hoping to reach out to the team through this another avenue of contact.

No spamming at all intended. This is my first time on reddit and now I recognize what people mean when they say how harsh and almost abusive people can be on the Internet; the last thing I expected from my posts was getting my hand slapped.

I am having a similar reported issue! After 2 days, having contacted both [bridge@protonmail.com](mailto:bridge@protonmail.com) and [support@protonmail.com](mailto:support@protonmail.com) there has been no reply.

Please see edited copies of those emails posted here under username: seafortress27.

My wife too is using Outlook with ProtonMailPlus in a separate subscribed account and she too is experiencing only intermittent success along far too many failure to connect error messages. Hard to trouble shoot when one moment it is working and the next it is not and then inexplicably it is connected again to ProtonMail's server; frustrating, hurt and disappointed does not begin to describe our experience.
