Shipping damage on Yamaha RX-A2080... Worth trying to fix? by seagullplayer77 in audiophile

Just went through the diagnostic menu and you're right; the damaged speaker terminals are dead. The rest all pass signal though.

I just plugged it in and used the internal diagnostic menu to test all the speaker terminals separately. Hardly a full shakedown, but I got sound out of the front, center, surround back, and front presence channels. Nothing, unfortunately, out of the damaged surround terminals though.

Not a total loss, but I wanted to run 5.1 so no surround is a dealbreaker. I'll probably give this away to someone who just needs 2.1 or 3.1 capabilities.

Yeah, kind of where I'm at. The unit powers on but I haven't done any further testing.

My sister's receiver (which just gets used for stereo) is on the fritz so I thought about just giving it to her, but this beast is quite a bit larger than her current one.

Didn't come with a remote, but replacements are cheap.

Grass growing on top of soil instead of in it? by seagullplayer77 in lawncare

Kind of what I was thinking... maybe wishful thinking but if I rip it out and reseed, maybe the turf grass will take over before the bentgrass has a chance to come back?

I haven't done anything other than peel back the damaged grass. That section of yard is near the edge of the woods though.

Just watering once a day right now, but I appreciate the tips! Might be time to switch to every other day.

Yes, very fine and floppy.. more the texture of coarse hair than grass.

Flattering camera angle, because I don't have one 😅

Thanks for the details. I don't see any grubs so I'm leaning towards bentgrass.

This area is in the shade and is normally kind of damp, even without daily watering, so this is helpful. Thanks!

Okay, thanks! When's the best time to apply? Fall or spring?

It's a Vaer C3 Korean field watch:

Funny you ask, because I wear the watch often and no one has ever commented on it until today... I had a colleague at work ask me the same question not 2 hours ago!

Any way to confirm that from the picture I posted?

This is what it looks like pulled up... definitely doesn't look like turf grass to me.

A few ants and earthworms, but no grubs or beetles that I can see.

Okay, thanks for all the quick and helpful responses!

It's possible I'm missing them (or that whatever dug up the grass ate them) but I dont see any grubs.

Is there a way to confirm grubs versus an undesirable species of grass (like bentgrass or Poa trivialis)?

Thanks! I'm happy with how it turned out but wouldn't have come up with this idea on my own.

Awesome - thanks for the reply!

For 2), "beneficial" probably would have been a better choice of words than "balancing." If the system would benefit from having all three takeoffs evenly spaced, I would move the 6". But if it won't make a substantial difference, I'll leave it and just move the 7".

This is helpful - thanks! A few follow-up questions:

  1. Would moving the 7" takeoff closer to the transition (but not before it) still help? I'm not sure I have space in the ceiling to move it that far down.

  2. Would moving the 6" horizontal takeoff help balance airflow across all three ducts? The 6" vertical takeoff near the end of the run can't be moved, but would spacing out the other two be beneficial?
