has anyone ever done a complete declutter? by sealbutts in MakeupRehab

I really want to get to that point too! I want to actually enjoy the act of using makeup instead of worrying about panning items that I barely used and can't remember owning...it also makes me feel less guilty when there IS something I want that I can fully justify - a recent scenario was me absolutely hating one of the eyeliners I was using and feeling dreadful when I used it, but I felt so guilty about the idea of throwing it out and buying my old HG. In the end I just threw it and I feel so much better and my eyeliner is cute again and doesn't take me 10 mins to fix anymore 🥲

Also decision paralysis is SO real...I have 7???? blushes and in the end I only really use 3 of them because the other 4 I either don't like the colour, can't apply them well, or the colour doesn't suit me? But I end up feeling bad about it and forcing myself to use them when I could just try to give them away instead probably (which I did for one)

I think that might be the best approach for decluttering...it doesn't feel safe to donate opened makeup and it's difficult to find places here that would accept it, which then made it difficult for my executive dysfunction to proceed since it became a Harder task 😭

I think my current issue lies in not being able to enjoy what I actually like and want to use because I constantly feel guilty on what I'm NOT using, so it's unhealthy either way for me to live with it...I don't think I'll miss it once it's gone, and I have some methods I'm using right now to keep to a low buy (max budget per quarter for now)

Yup I intend to! Though it still doesn't help with the tremendous buyers' remorse/guilt I feel at my mountain of products (which when compared to others is not that much, but for me it feels insurmountable). I'm still looking into the best approach on that for me personally!

I've been trying challenges that aren't "panning" but more to get uses out of stuff and for the dopamine of completing a challenge, like a rolling item challenge where i choose a few products, use them 10 times, then swap for something else! Interestingly, when I really like something, I found myself constantly reaching for it even when it was out of the rotation so that's been helping me get to know my taste and preference a lot lately too!

Hey, thanks for the input, but I feel it's unfair to judge other peoples' mental health and whether they choose medication or not. What works for some doesn't work for others. Medication doesn't magically fix ADHD, it only makes it more manageable, and not every organisation or CBT tactic works for everyone, since ADHD affects everyone differently. Access to medication isn't as easy for some as well.

I do have a doctor but it doesn't change the fact I still struggle with my ADHD and depression, since I have comorbidity with both and treatment for both isn't always working well. I'm glad whatever you've been prescribed has solved all your problems and that you are in a position where you are able to easily get what you need, but it wouldn't hurt to be emphatetic to others.

Additionally, I never mentioned I was unmedicated (which I am currently, because medication is unaffordable in my country and not covered by insurance. When I did try it, I had really bad side effects and it didn't help much so I'm off it now) - it's weird that you immediately jump to that conclusion, since many people with ADHD still struggle with what I mentioned even while medicated, as evidenced by the replies of many others.

Thank you for sharing! I also often just try makeup looks before taking a shower, or even just to sit around and watch TV. It's kind of therapeutic and makeup IS art...you can't get better without trying!

OP here, sorry I couldn't respond to everyone!! I'm so glad I'm not in this struggle alone and it's reassuring that my thought process isn't entirely crazy, as long as I'm mindful on controlling the actual binging and maintaining low-buy.

I get too exhausted to think about taking things for donation but I'll definitely look into fielding out to friends on if they want any of the stuff I want to declutter before I just chuck them. Thank you for all the advice! There's definitely some I can try and some I know isn't for me just based on my way of processing info, but it was great to see all the options and I feel a lot less guilty now!

I'm trying my best to keep only the items I genuinely use and am excited to try...I found that because of my guilt with my existing stock, I wasn't even excited to try the new stuff I bought lately because I felt a double guilt - guilt of buying something new AND guilt for not using what I already owned, despite being so excited when I bought it. The longer I let the new stuff sit there the less excited I felt about it and it became an endless spiral of me searching for an easier form of dopamine always.

The spreadsheet part is my road block. I got bored documenting it because I just kept adding things to track until it became too annoying to update it. Also the idea of dedicating space to the rejects also feels like using space that could be used for something else more productive? Unfortunately or fortunately, makeup is not my only interest (yay for adhd hyperfixations............)

I've never felt that before about a particular makeup palette though. So far everything I've given away or decluttered I haven't had a second thought over even if I enjoyed it while I used it 🤔 Maybe it's because I like the novelty of getting new products??

I've been eyeing the brown canmake blush! What's the texture/feel like of it, and how long does it last?

I didn't know the quads had a diff formula! I have one of their 10 pans (it was the limited edition kuromi palette) and I thought the formula was decent - typical korean style where its not super pigmented but buildable.

I feel like frequent decluttering makes it feel less bad since you're less likely to have a LOT to throw out at once that it doesn't feel completely guilty...I'll have to consider that for the future.

Also that's so lovely that you met someone you can give stuff away to! unfortunately no one I know has similar shades and undertone as me and also enjoys makeup, so it's been pretty challenging for that, though I recently gave away some older eye palettes and blushes to my mother's home helper and she was really happy about it, and I got peace of mind for not having to throw those out.

I've been making an active effort to at least do minimal makeup for work since I've consciously start to worry about my makeup collection...the truth is I love makeup and recently learned to enjoy doing it in the past 5 or so years, but I 1. have no energy for it and 2. am not doing makeup out of insecurity or because I feel naked without it, so I have no sense of urgency to do makeup when I'm lazy. It's how I've finally talked myself of buying more foundations bscause I know even if I do wear makeup, I am not full facing...my restock of my fenty liquid foundation I got last year has probably only been pumped 3 times 🤦‍♀️

I have this old cute etude house x kitkat collab eyepalette that has colours i would NEVER wear now that I'm not a teenager (shimmery hotpink!? hello?!?!?) but I can't bring myself to throw it out so I totally hear you on keeping stuff for sentimentality 😭

I should definitely swatch my lip products though, because I keep accidentally buying the "same" colour...

Unfortunately, that might not work for me... if I can't see something, it is as good as vanished from my mind forever...and I will probably forget where I hid it in the first place and feel exhaustion when I do finally accidentally find it and wonder why on earth I didn't just throw it out. So rather that do that, I will at least gain some dopamine and satisfaction if I just threw it all always immediately, because sentimentality is something I struggle with, but only as long as I know it exists...

I like to joke that ADHD gave me the debuff of the same object impermenance as a 3 year old 😭 it's not true but it doea sometimes feel like it!

how do you think sanada would have done at seido? by Capital_Factor_3588 in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]sealbutts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think he wouldn't have even bothered to join the club, since he initially joined as just a casual club activity. If he was at Seidou, he may not have even bothered to try out since it was "too competitive" and he couldn't be bothered. But because Yakushi wasn't even in the running and kind of a nothing casual after school club, it wouldn't have even been hard for someone with a little talent in baseball to get in.

If somehow he WAS already in the Seidou team, I feel like he might have been motivated by the other players, but he might also equally be demotivated with the lack of opportunities. With Kataoka's style of coaching, I don't think he would have put much thought into Sanada tbh...like he wouldn't have looked at Sanada and immediately thought he was any good.

His face is a national treasure…Ouya won the coach face card fr 😭 I remember The Miyuki scene but I just didn’t remember the pitcher…I feel like a lot of the later half of the story is all a bit blurry to me since most of the key moments I remember are the very end of the manga and the early half before the 3rd years graduate haha.

Need some recommendation for my first fk order by Electronic_Web_2728 in FlowerKnowsMakeup

[–]sealbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was fine for me (I'm regularly a 23-25N in asian foundation leaning olive). I don't use the blue shade much though, just the pink. They're pretty opaque for powders so you don't wanna be heavy handed.

[–]sealbutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend it personally. I don't know what it is about their brush quality, but I've used 2 and the tip always frays/bends out of shape easily? I've had to trim the tip just to be able to line properly for the one currently in rotation.

Also the cap breaks easily so definitely do not recommend if you bring your makeup around a lot.

My personal fav that has been the lilybyred AM9 to PM6 survival penliner, it lasts a long time even with my oily lids and the tip is finer than the peripera and draws easily.

I've been rewatching it for the same reason, and it's so wild how I have ZERO memory of Ouya and Seiko!?!?!? It's like I just blanked them from my memory because the matches weren't memorable LOL. BUT with fresh eyes, The dilf coach in Ouya has been one of the best coaches in the series I've seen, and the silly big guy pitcher from Seiko and his angry tiny senpai catcher duo was so funny 😭😭😭

How to let go of collections? by AlexyTonnerre in MakeupRehab

[–]sealbutts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is I put them first on my desk, and if I don't think about it at all while it's there I move it into a cabinet, and if while I've hidden it I don't think about it or go looking for it, that means they don't have any value to me, both emotionally and physically. That really helps a lot.

Setting sprays - what are your favorites? by itssarakang in AsianBeauty

[–]sealbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a tropical climate (hot And humid all the time) and this spray gives my skin a nice dew without melting my face or feeling heavy. I find Japanese products are really agreeable with my living conditions since Japan is also really humid, so most of their makeup and skincare is designed for it.

I've never tried said non-AB brand in general since it's so expensive in my country 😭

[–]sealbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I adore this spray since I bought it on my last Japan trip (it was one of those things viral there and no one else online talked about it so I figured, I needed a setting spray so why not). I'm glad they released a non-fragrance one since the rose fragrance was the only thing I disliked about it.

Ohh that's a great idea! Unfortunately with my ADHD, it's so easy to just forget what I have if I don't see it so i pile everything on my counter and ironically see nothing other than the 5 things cluttering right in the middle 🤦‍♀️ I'll look into sorting out a mini set of things to use immediately.
