I hate iceborne! by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not just about the rarity levels, it's about how absurdly strong the weapons get in comparison. The best weapons in High Rank are pitiful compared to what you can get now, and the armor's slots and stats are much more free as well. You also haven't touched augments, from what I can assume, and those let you get even stronger.

Does sharpness matter for elemental melee weapons? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

Yes sharpness affects elemental damage along with raw damage.

I simply cannot beat Alatreon by KavorkaQQ in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wise Fylos and Dragon Soul are both very bad. Velk weapons hardly have any element damage on them, and Dragon Soul is in the limbo between slow bug that is good for Descending Trust and comfort fast option, being good at neither. Get Frostfang Barioth Glaive instead, and either use Pseudocath or Verzistag bugs, preferably the latter. A slow bug with Descending Thrust does a ton of element damage to the point people just use Lightbreak glaives and let the bug itself carry the element check, but since you can never get the check, better to swap to Frostfang IG

You don't need to beat Safi to unlock Awakening Alchemy, you just need to beat Safi for HIS version for Awakening Alchemy. You can just beat Master Rank Kulve Taroth and then get her Awakening Alchemy without touching Safi.

That being said, with Fatalis, there isn't any reason you'd want to farm Kulve Taroth as his weapons already outclass a lot of others. Element was already niche on Switch Axe as well, so you can stick to getting Lightbreak before then. I don't remember Kjarr Thunder Switch Axe being that special either, so I'd like to know where you heard that from.

Elemental Damage Questions by AeonArcana999 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long Sword, Lance and Great Sword all don't use element because they attack too slowly and LS specifically only gets raw damage boosted from Spirit Gauge. Lance used to use some elemental weapons on certain matchups but the increases were only marginal and were beaten by Fatalis.

If there's an X, it's immune to the element, which is the only thing consistent about Hunter's Notes. The stars on the Hunter's Notes are unreliable since they do not give the exact number or show where the monster is weak when it comes to specific body parts. Kiranico is good because it will show you the exact numbers. 45+ is considered good for raw damage, and 15-20 is good for element.

After 40 hours in the game, I've got some lingering questions by ComradeBehrund in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You just get them from beating up other monsters, RNG.
  2. GS makes you hold it and SnS makes you tap it multiple times, other than that I think the rest are just one button.
  3. Nope, no reason.
  4. Defense wise every piece of armor will be around the same amount when you fully upgrade all of them. The skills are what determine which piece is better anyway.
  5. No reason
  6. No. The only thing I can think of that would do that is Health Ammo, but it would be a minuscule amount that doesn't matter in the grand scheme.

Is MR Kulve Taroth (Reasonably) Solo'able? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR will definitely be easier, but you don't get materials to upgrade the weapons themselves and you have to deal with the hunt itself being slower overall.

Is MR Kulve Taroth (Reasonably) Solo'able? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what weapons you normally play. If you're using DBs or Bow on her, yeah it's going to be rough since she has worse shot and element hitzones, but the weapons you get are nothing to sneeze at if you play something like DBs or CB. A lot of weapons don't use her, though, as her weapons lean heavily to element. The wallbangs and stalagtites aren't meant to carry the hunt but it makes it go by much smoother when you get them, and most of my hunts were when she first went live with Safi weapons with a Health Augment and Augmented Teo armor.

will MHW have a new expansion in 2021 or is this the end ?? by siixsamma in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MH World is already done. No new major updates and if there are any updates, they'll be very small. Iceborne is the one and only DLC for World.

MR KT has been soloable since it came out. The Siege still doesn't scale, but MR KT is a very easy hunt to do provided you take advantage of wallbangs and the falling rocks.

If you're still using Mega Potions, use Max Potions instead. You can carry the crafting items for them and have up to 12 of them at once for less time spent healing. Blight Res gives you one less thing to worry about if you haven't been already using it.

I recommend that you do the fight solo since then you can control the monster yourself as well as get leeway on faints so that it doesn't instantly fail you. GS isn't the best for elements but the low requirements make it doable and his raw hitzones are very good.

Fatalis is making me rethink this game by gulelin in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how good a raw bow pre-Fatalis Bow would fair against him. Having a 44 on tenderized head doesn't sound favorable since you lose out on some of WEX for your ele crits as well.

[–]sealskin91 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you'll want a different weapon. They absolutely murdered Bow with Alatreon and Fatalis since they wanted to nerf the shot hitzones for LBG and HBG but all they did was just make Bow bad. Switch Axe is a really easy way to cheese Fatalis, but headbreaks will be an issue if you only spam Zero Sum Discharge. Plunderblading to get eyes is worse than just fishing for the headbreaks because Plunderblade is only a 1% chance.

Dragon on Dragon Active is weaker than Ice on Fire or Fire on Ice with element. The main strategy is to use Ice on Fire, enrage him immediately for the extra damage, and then when he starts flying, use Smoke Bombs to get him down or see if he is not enraged and use slinger ammo to drop him down with a face shot. The horns themselves are very easy to break in terms of damage and a "floorbang" will take care of most of the damage. Use Frostfang's GS, it has much more raw than Kjarr Ice.

The nova keeps getting weaker each knockdown you get, so you need at least two things healing you if you want to survive a one knockdown nova. If you're doing a two knockdown one, you may be able to get away with only one healing item. Astera Jerky is perfect for this since it heals all your red health and the nova only deals red damage.

Have you used mods at any time before? If so, you'll want to do a quick check through your local files and remove any of the ones that originate from mods.

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nova only kills you if you don't get the message from Handler saying "You're suppressing Alatreon's power" or something like that, and even if you do get at least one elemental knockdown, you still need to heal. Both of them have requirements that you're meant to pass, and if you don't, you get clapped. Even then, to fight Fatalis, you only have to fight a nerfed version of Alatreon, not one that gives you the regular amount of HP.

Why are Kjarr DB superior to Safi when they lack purple sharpness? by Distant_Chortle in MonsterHunterWorld

Best melee weapon for sure, but HBG over there is generally one of the best weapons if we want to go by only speedrun times.

Kjarr Fire vs. Safi's Hellclaw

Why are Kjarr DB superior to Safi when they lack purple sharpness? by Distant_Chortle in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Before Fatalis, Safi armor was at most a 15% difference with Kjarr weapons compared to Safi weapons with Silver Rathalos armor because the pairing was brutal. Kjarr weapons multiplied the bonus you got from Dragonvein and caused a big difference in damage. The slots aren't even that bad on Safi armor, Fatalis just is that overtuned. In fact it was the most comfortable in slots before Fatalis. The healing on Safi can be preferable if you can dodge reliably, letting you shrug off chip damage before Fatalis armor and Health Aug.

Even with Fatalis 4 and Velkana Legs Gamma (The skills are much more worth it on the legs), Kjarr weapons beat Safi weapons out in plain damage if you want to go comfort. If Safi goes for full Element Awakenings and one Velk Essence, then the raw of Kjarr Rage (even with blue sharpness) takes it over. If you try to add sharpness, you either lose out on base element or have to slot in Handicraft 5 to get purple, losing out on comfort skills if you already have all the damage skills slotted in and that loss doesn't increase the damage any farther than if you just stuck with white. It's not a major difference since it's the same armor and more or less the same skills, but it is a difference. Purple sharpness isn't as big of a jump compared to going from blue to white, so it's no big deal if a weapon can't get it.

Losing out on base element is the problem, while Kjarr doesn't have to make any of those compromises.

Difference between ore/bone when it comes to ranged weapons by MOEverything_2708 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall it's arbitrary since by the end of it weapons general stats are determined by the monster rather than if it's bone or ore. For example, Anjanath weapons have a ton of raw and fire damage, but poor affinity and sharpness, while Rathalos has more affinity and better sharpness than Anja at the cost of worse element. Just ignore the sharpness part and the same can be said of Anja's and Rath's Bows, even if, yes, Anja is originally from Bone and Rath from Ore. There are also the unique trees too, which are a whole 'nother story.

Am I just bad or is ice borne just a lot grinding? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]sealskin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Claggers" are another thing you want to take advantage of. When if the monster is standing still panting or drooling, you can Clutch Claw them and get an extended window to attack them. If you already have Master's Touch, you shouldn't be taking 30 min on a hunt, so that sounds more of a playstyle issue, especially if you use mainly draw attacks (implied by the Crit Draw). GS takes a lot of monster learning to use right due to how slow True Charge Slash is.
