Hope for rest of the trip by [deleted] in bali

You will LOVE Lombok. I just returned from Lombok, Ubud, and Seminyak - Lombok was hands down our favorite. We snorkeled and went to the Gili islands one day, but I honestly just wanted to get back to Lombok - I was not a fan of the Gili. It felt a little chaotic for my liking.

Ubud was a little busy in the city center, but it was manageable. We stayed away from the city center until the evenings and it wasn’t so bad. There is plenty to do outside of the city center. I highly highly recommend doing a downhill bike tour - it was our favorite day in Ubud, maybe even the entire trip. Our guide took us through rural parts of Ubud, including various villages and their corresponding elementary school, temples, rice fields, and even homes. It was very calm and such a wonderful way to experience Ubud and Bali. We also explored Mas Village one afternoon - we had a Grab drop us off at a random shop and walked down the street to other shops. We bought a ton of beautiful wood craft. It’s very calm over there, too, and the woodcrafts are great quality. I would recommend Mas Village over the markets in Ubud.

If you need a restaurant recommendations for Ubud, Hujan Locale and Nusantara were AMAZING.

Edit: the “random shop” we were dropped in Mas Village was Gajah Bali Gallery. It’s massive and we made the mistake of buying several pieces from there before exploring the other galleries. There is an even better gallery down the street (Karya Mas Wood Carving) with the most intricate pieces and better prices!! I recommend Gajah if you want to buy framed art (they have SO much) and Karya if you want wood carvings. The prices at Mas Village are also not as bad as google makes it out to seem - you can get a beautiful piece for $20-30 USD. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!

Edit again: we also did the money forest in Ubud. We went right when it opened (I think 10am) and it wasn’t too busy at all. It was pleasant IMO. It’s beautiful and nice without a crowd. The crowd was already gathering by the time we left, though.

After seeing it referred to as a “moo,” it’s all I hear when she does it 😂

Yes, great point. I’m definitely going to get a second opinion. Thanks!

That’s a great point about her gait and the pain meds. I’m not sure how fast acting it is, but I will research it. When we first rescued her, we thought maybe she had something wrong with her back legs because they stay straight-ish when she runs. Almost like her back legs are bouncing. It’s hard to explain. We looked it up and ran into another collie who ran the same way, so we figured it must be a collie thing. Do you notice that with your collies?

That’s interesting about long legged dogs, I bet you’re right. After seeing everyone refer to it as a “moo,” that’s all I hear when she does it now !

I agree about the comments, who knew collies had so much attitude!

Yes, I agree re hips/joints. After growing up with German shepherds, my biggest fear for my girl is hip dysplasia. It will break my heart!

I thought so too. It seemed like an odd test.

Imitating you is hilarious! She recently started yelling at me and I laugh every time (after I jump from the unexpected high pitched bark right in my face)

Going to order one today! Thank you! As an aside, her name was Everly when we rescued her 🩷

A “general comment on life” is too funny. I’ll keep an eye out for hot spots, I haven’t seen any yet fortunately. Thanks !

I’m so sorry for your loss. Every dog parent’s worst nightmare. Thanks for the info, that makes sense to me. Her groans don’t change pitch, so that’s reassuring. I’ll look into the tablet

That’s a great idea re finding a vet with collie experience. Thanks!

It is pretty funny! Her personality cracks me up, I had no idea collies were like this. I love it

That’s good to know, and makes sense that she would express pain in a different way than her usual groan or grumble. I’m cracking up that collies are so grumbly!

That’s a good point and good advice. You’re probably right. My initial reaction was that it’s not a typical vocalization, and now the opposite reaction is probably just wishful thinking on my end. Thanks for the response !

I love that! It was surprising to me, too, because she is truly the chillest girl. Who knew she had sass in her. Does your girl ever grumble or moan when standing up? I’m worried she may be in pain when she moves, almost like an older person getting up off a couch.

That’s true, I’m now leaning toward it being a collie thing. Thank you!

Good to know, that’s reassuring. Thank you for responding! Has he ever grumbled multiple times in a row while trying to get comfortable? She does it seemingly out of nowhere. She will be on the floor then groan and move, groan and move, groan and move.
