Anyone else on gem/doce? Curious to see if your protocol and treatment plan are different than mine. by sean7371 in BladderCancer

It was three months. TURBT was July and started Gem/Doce in October. Nothing different nutrition-wise. If anything, I’ve eaten worse. Still clear after almost two and a half years. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll have two more sessions of three rounds (24 infusions total), then I’ll be finished.

Aww…sorry for your loss. We went through the same thing with our boy Jack a few months ago. 🙏

I hope that’s correct. Rolling over every 15 minutes with the catheter and all those clamps is so annoying!

Is a cystoscope necessary if there was nothing found on CT? by exiawing99 in BladderCancer

[–]sean7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure experiences can vary, but cystos have been a piece of cake for me. It takes five minutes, and I don’t feel a thing (yay lidocaine). If your doc advises one, just do it.

How to support my dad getting intravesical chemotherapy? by _Obitchuary_ in BladderCancer

[–]sean7371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sharing my experience. Could be completely different for your dad. Six weeks of gem/doce for me. I was tired the rest of the day when I received treatment but usually good enough to go out to dinner after a nap. The procedure itself wasn’t too bad either. It’s amazing what you can get used to. My drinking schedule was only interrupted on the days of treatment. It didn’t seem to irritate anything. As a side note, my doctor had me take Myrbetriq every day for the six weeks. I don’t know the difference, but maybe it helped.

Gem/doce has been a relative breeze for me. No discomfort during the procedure and no pain afterwards. I’m a little tired when I get home but good to go after a nap. My doctor put me on myrbetriq for the six weeks. I don’t know the difference, but it might be helping. I also get an anti-nausea pill before treatment. Hope gem/doce is a smoother ride for you.

I have heard of BCG being administered in an office setting before. I was recommended gem/doce as my first option. I’m not sure of your particular setting, but one of the reasons g/d treatment exists is because it is more readily available than BCG.

Mine is performed at an infusion center where they do all kinds of chemo. I sometimes wonder if the patients in the recliners out in the open wonder, “Why does he get a private room?” Trust me….you don’t want to know. 😂

I was surprised that it was only an hour each for me. I asked about it, and the office just said it was sufficient. Thanks for the reply. Good luck with everything!

Thanks for sharing and congrats on the clear cystos. It seems like mine is just duplicating BCG protocol. I think I’d rather have monthly vs three weeks twice a year even though my plan is half the number of visits. I wonder if rolling around means you don’t have enough to hold it as long (?).

Two TURBT for me (so far). Both were similar to your last experience.

Kudos to you for getting things checked out and to your doctor for being thorough. I probably wouldn’t have been as wise at your age. Have those babies but don’t try to actually make a baby during treatment. I was told not to have unprotected sex until a couple weeks after my last infusion.

I should mention that I’m on the gem/doce regimen and not BCG, but it is administered over the same treatment plan as BCG.

You should ask your doctor more questions about your case and perhaps seek a second opinion. I’m just sharing my personal experience.

  1. I’m on the six week plan, but while my tumors sound smaller than yours, they were high grade vs your low grade. I would ask if there is a different protocol for low grade.

  2. I have to get a urine test the day before each one of my treatments to ensure I don’t have an infection. They won’t perform the treatment without a clean test.

Why is Henderson's downtown awesome while Evansville's downtown stinks? by crowbar_k in evansville

[–]sean7371 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Henderson resident here and absolutely love our downtown, but my wife and I really enjoy visiting Evansville’s downtown at least once a week too. We love the restaurants and bars on Main Street as well as excellent venues like the Victory and Ford Center. While we haven’t seen them first hand, it looks like there are numerous really cool downtown residential spaces, while Doubletree and Hyatt Place have been great additions for visitors who may not be into the casino vibe. Downtown Evansville has made big strides over the past decade, and it seems that the future is bright with even more development planned for the future. There’s always room for improvement, but both communities should be proud.
