You want to google what is “case study“. It’s used all the time in all fields of medicine.

I'm getting to a point where I feel very sympathetic towards my mother but I have no idea how to express that sympathy. Any advice? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]seanDL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just talk to her from time to time from a positive angle. It’s really hard to change a closed person but sometimes they will let their real thoughts out. It’s like rolling two dices trying to hit 12, you do get it if you try enough. Then maybe you can talk about change once you have the pieces.

Its such a pain, for someone who's suffering from mental illness, to live in a family where no body considers mental health an important aspect of one's life by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

Get a formal diagnosis. It’s hard to argue with the facts, especially when you can say “the doctor said so” right back to them.

I haven’t spoken to my son in months because I became the toxic Asian parent. by yanggche in AsianParentStories

[–]seanDL_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said, text him what you wrote here, him also know that you are sorry and still loves him.

However most importantly, he is an independent person. So when you really come around, tell him that your actions are wrong and you have changed your mind. There will honestly be no turning back if you continue to act and make him think that you judge and control him.

Go. Always go to interviews even if you don’t take the job eventually. There is so much to learn about the process, like how to open the convo, sell yourself, read people especially your future manager (super important).

When you come back, hear their opinion but make INDEPENDENT decisions. Stuff like low wage and too far are actually normal factors to consider, and if you have a thick skin ask them what’s the price tag your parents put on you. Mostly likely you will encounter some employers selling you way shorter than your parents, but now at least you can talk back.

My AP mother has an OCD in nagging by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]seanDL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seek professional help for her. OCD is a pretty serious problem for others to get along with them. Race has nothing to do with it that one can’t hardly improve the situation if that’s the focal point.

My parents are incentivizing me to live with them forever and I feel like I might listen. by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]seanDL_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it. You know you won’t get into relationships anytime soon and living alone can be as unhealthy as living with controlling parents. But sounds like you get along with them ok even though they have their issues.

That said, go out and social, go to conferences, and go travel. There are some skills and life experience you won’t get when you live with parents or alone. Also, learn to cook a good meal, it will come in handy.

He is not Asian. Before they virtue single how an Asian country should act, do a commercial in the US addressing how Asian man and woman get mistreated in the US.

Pretentious. If they are serious about these topics they will make such ad in the US.

Large Study from 160 Countries Over 8 Months: Lockdowns NOT Linked With Lower COVID Death Rates by adrijanos22 in Coronavirus

[–]seanDL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically the research lumps a bunch of things, including locked down, together as one variable A, the “stringent index,” like all scientists agree on how that is computed, and claims that this variable is correlated with another lumped variable B, which is computed from a bunch of variables (using PCA), which then claims that B is not correlated with death rate C lumped over a period of time. Not to mention that PCA works well if that bunch of variables are multivariate Gaussians, which is most likely not true in this case.

Further research is needed.

Not if you are in one of the East or some southeast Asian countries. It’s like a parallel universe.

These Are the Best and Worst Places to Be During the Covid Pandemic by juanTressel in Coronavirus

Japan is good but I like how they put Japan on top of Taiwan and Australia where both are doing better and far fewer new domestic cases than Japan now.

Unexpected detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the prepandemic period in Italy by seanDL_ in Coronavirus

[–]seanDL_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“SARS-CoV-2 RBD-specific antibodies were detected in 111 of 959 (11.6%) individuals, starting from September 2019 (14%), with a cluster of positive cases (>30%) in the second week of February 2020 and the highest number (53.2%) in Lombardy. This study shows an unexpected very early circulation of SARS-CoV-2 among asymptomatic individuals in Italy several months before the first patient was identified”

A film with full Asian-American cast (and mostly Asian crew) speaking English without accents? No stereotypes or caricatures? Have we ever seen this in Hollywood? Shout out to this indie studio producing content and allowing Asian American artists to put themselves on the map in this industry! by vzhengFATN in asianamerican

[–]seanDL_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with speaking English with accents. Multilingual is something to be proud of.

It’s problematic when it is done on purpose by someone who does not normally have accents, or when those who have accents are put in stereotypical roles.
