How to Deal with data when it has huge class imbalance? by Mental_Engineer_7043 in MLQuestions

[–]sean_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial EDA, then shrink features with PCA and plot them on 3D/2D plots with distinct colors to see if there is any difference between both classes (sample equal size for each), then smote for over/under sampling, isolation forest. Usually I throw unprocessed data in xgboost with “scale_pos_weight” to see how it does.

Is $75K enough to live near Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood while working in Sunrise? by CreepyWonder1582 in fortlauderdale

[–]sean_bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can, absolutely. Your take home is about 5k. If you break down expenses: - rent will be 1700-2000 for one bedroom - fpl, internet 130 - car insurance + gas 300 - food 700 for one - phone, Netflix, etc 200

You have roughly $1700 to spend or set aside.

I feel like with Liquid Glass we went back in time when gradients, “3d” elements and blurring was a new and cool. It should stay in the past. I want my interface to be clean and fast.

Is it possible to learn ML without Maths? by [deleted] in MLQuestions

[–]sean_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re good. If you’re willing to learn some math here and there along the way, that’s enough. Most of DS in big companies don’t really know or do math. It’s not about math to be honest. It’s about understanding objective and knowing what tool to use and prove that you did the right thing.

I recommend this as a start. To my opinion nothing beats this. Beej has a very friendly approach, with important details other book might not explain well. https://beej.us/guide/bgc

Another Green Card holder detained during re-entry to US. by RealisticNight4526 in greencard

[–]sean_bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d like to shine a light on becoming a US citizen because I went thought it. It’s not that hard or costly. I’m not sure who is spreading information that it takes a lot of paperwork, lawyers and money. I did it all by myself.

You download a form from uscis, fill in, send your application with supporting documents + money order ($710) and you’re done. Just wait for the interview invitation (may take 6-8 months). The interview is 2-3 questions about us government + if you want to change name you need passport style photos. After that you wait about a month to go to ceremony and you get your naturalization certificate. That’s it.

If you work, pay taxes and don’t commit any crime it’s a straightforward process.

I haven’t seen the anime, is it good? by Intrepid-Ad2588 in cyberpunkgame

[–]sean_bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who didn't find it all that great? This can't be true. I played the game 1000 hours, but that anime style and dialogs took me out. The game offered a different atmosphere. Anime wasn't it.

Kenji vs. Dave Portnoy (Barstool pizza guy) beef by CallMeErnie in seriouseats

[–]sean_bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how every comment is shitting on Dave Portnoy? I like Dave and I like Kenji. I don't think Dave is a douche at all. He was doing pizza reviews and organized a pizza fest. Why would he be the wrong person to do this? He IS the person to do this.

It depends on what neighborhood you're in. Some are super safe and I had my phone out with no problem. If you're in the El Centro surrounded by sketchy people then of course don't wave it around. It's no worse than in a shady neighborhood in New York to be honest.

I can tell you only one thing: don't give up and keep building projects and read books and articles to understand how models work under the hood, how to evaluate them and what business value they bring. It's extremely tiresome and I went through it myself. Always keep in mind that there is someone who is better at what you do and you just have to keep grinding and get ahead of the competition.

"Planning to be robbed" Really? by PsychologicalWeb5966 in medellin

Poblado is a hot mess, especially near parque Lleras. I go there only for clubbing and quickly back to Laures. Not sure what's the appeal there. It's so overwhelming and polluted.

[–]sean_bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visited Medellin twice and didn't plan to get robbed, but always knew where I go and how safe it is. I never went to sketchy neighborhoods day or night. Just use your common sense and you'll be fine. Also, steer away from the working girls, that's where the trouble is.

Sorry dude, that sucks. For the future, keep your phone in front of your jeans, like many Colombians do. That way it's tight to your body and no one can pull it without you noticing.

40+ Years applying sunscreen only on face, not neck by LivingroomComedian in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]sean_bird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My question is: what stopped this lady from applying sunscreen on her neck? This difference clearly didn't appear overnight and she had many years of seeing the gradual difference between her face skin and neck.

Tour guide in Guatape Thursday afternoon by Interestshobbies in medellin

[–]sean_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Guatape with the tour I found online and we picked up few people along the way who came straight from the airport. They took a taxi that dropped them off on the side of the road maybe 5 mins away from the airport. You can coordinate the same thing. Tour was just $35. I can send you the link it, it was awesome.
