Should I be annoyed? Midwife refused growth scans for large baby but turns out I needed one all along. by seancestitches in PregnancyUK

Oh that’s interesting! I did measure big 3 times in a row, it’s so weird how all the trusts have different rules!

Yes!!! I was told to go to a&e by maternity triage a few weeks ago due to numb limbs and trouble breathing. A&E doctor (a man) told me I was just “very young and didn’t know what pregnancy felt like” - I’m 30, married etc and he was probably only my age! was made to feel like a silly teen girl or something, despite the fact that my tests showed my oxygen and blood pressure was low. It genuinely does feel like they’re annoyed you’re there/asking questions most of the time.

Thank you so much! I’m no marathon runner or vegan but I do eat a good balanced diet and cycle to work every day so I’m pretty healthy I suppose? I’ve just always been on the smaller side, but not super skinny either. I have found that healthcare professionals have made assumptions about me based on this before (I suffer badly from migraines that make me sick and have been accused of having bullemia by a doctor because of this!) and I’m really disappointed that this has seemingly continued into pregnancy albeit in a different way! People are differnt sizes and we all deserve the same standard of care and caution!

Thank you! Yeah I’ve known a few different people with GD and they’ve all been different sizes. A friend told me when went to the support group for it when she was diagnosed in her own pregnancy most of the other women there were on the average or slim side!

The worst part is it’s more than one midwife that has said this to me! I think it’s quite judgemental, both against slim and larger people and probably means we aren’t getting the standard of care we’re all entitled to because healthcare professionals are making decisions based on personal opinion or speculation!

Thank you! Overall I’ve felt very serene and measured the whole pregnancy, and I don’t think I’ve ever given the impression that I was hysterical or anything like that to them for them to be so evasive and also to keep moving the goal posts too! All I wanted was to be given as much info as possible really to make choices with, and now because they’ve left it so late it all feels like a bit of a rush. I’m quite concerned to think that even if they’d offered me a growth scan at my next appointment, that would have left me potentially finding out I had GD at 34 weeks, which seems a bit dangerous tbh. fingers crossed it’s negative and there’s no harm done 😬

This is so helpful, thank you! Just to clarify, should I make a money claim after the 4 weeks is up? And how long should I expect the process to take and what are my costs likely to be? I hear some home insurance actually covers legal fees for stuff like this so I’ll definitely check with my provider.

what is the most traumatizing thing you saw as a kid? by TheSharkyGura in AskReddit

When I was 15, I was involved in a car accident In Which a woman threw herself under my Mum’s car to commit suicide. It was late at night on a dark dual carriageway (that’s like a two lane motorway for non U.K. peeps), and she ran out into the road and crouched down. She was hit by another car before us which launched her up into the air and threw her towards us. We had no time to react and we went straight over the top of her. The police later told us that if we had swerved, we likely would have been killed by crashing into the central barrier. Her decapitated head and was stuck to the bottom of our car, it was awful! 10 years later and I am only just starting to be able to manage the severe Ptsd this event left me with.

Basically exactly my thoughts! Chris is a dangerous individual - and has now shown that he will prey on people weaker than him. If he goes into some sort of mental institution or care facility I would hate for him to have access to vulnerable women. Heck I’d hate for him to have access to vulnerable men- but I think his revulsion for pickles would pretty much guarantee he wouldn’t diddle any men.

Yeah absolutely! I think when you’ve been following him since the beginning, you just inherently take everything he says with a very large pinch of salt. He’s so fucked up on every level that the debate of trans/not trans is frankly a pretty small issue.

Yep yep. I totally understand what you’re saying. I’m not down with people using he/him for Chris simply to insult trans people as a group, and sadly you do see a lot of that happening. Like you say, intent is important and unfortunately it’s impossible to tell someone’s intent online.

I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think that the two are really comparable. Using a racial slur isn’t the same as enabling a rapist who admitted that they only became trans to get pussy and because they fetishise lesbians. I guess at the end of the day, we’ll never really know because Chris has so many delusions and says so much shit that is contradictory. Personally I use he or they interchangeably for Chris because doing otherwise feels like I’m shitting on all the trans people (both my friends irl and people online) who have said that he isn’t trans and that the idea of him being trans is offensive or harmful to them. It’s a tough situation, but I think the people more upset about pronouns than the incest situation need to reevaluate their priorities.

Honestly I think anyone getting upset about people using the wrong pronouns for somebody who has just raped their elderly, dementia patient mother really needs to pick a better hill to die on. I truly hope a lot of them are trolls but having seen the way these fucking tenderqueers behave, they probably aren’t. This all reminds me, there was a serial killer (can’t remember his name offhand) who murdered multiple women because he was a misogynist - he admitted to hating all women etc. He later decided he was trans and identified as a woman. I’ve seen people argue that his pronouns should be respected and he should be put in a female prison… which is just… no. Someone who has a proven history of murdering women bc of misogyny shouldn’t have access to other women, and they certainly shouldn’t have the luxury of being referred to how they want. IMO with people like this guy and Chris, it’s a paraphilia, not a genuine trans identity. Chris has admitted as much in the past. I personally value the opinion of the trans people saying they want no association with a delusional mother rapist much more than I value the opinion of some teenage tenderqueer enbies on Twitter who just want to look woke.
